Exploring why TE Scott Chandler hasn't had more impact with Patriots

Basically says Chandler's role is less than one might have hoped due to the dropsies, and also because the TEs are needed for pass blocking, which Williams is better at.

I'd have to guess that it's more of the latter than the former, but his opportunities should increase with the loss of Edelman, at least to some extent. In his heyday (2012, 2013, and 2014) Scott Chandler received the following number of targets:

2012---74

2013---81

2014---70

So far in N.England, he's on pace for about 50 percent of those targets. He's only had 21 total targets through the first 9 games, and has caught 13/21 passes. Where he can excel, however, is through red zone scoring opportunities.

I know I definitely had higher hopes. I was envisioning an unstoppable duo that would wreak havoc on the league. Ah well. Maybe he'll make one or two big plays in the playoffs.

He was better on that play than I had originally thought and never expected big numbers but I did expect more and better.

Chandler is a little disappointing. I don't want him cut, just want him to try a little harder. It's the same with us, if we know we are not doing a good job at work we try to get better. I like everyone on our team, it's just for frustrating to see them repeat the same mistakes over again.

You must be on the coaching staff.

Chandler does not play with any fire in his belly. I think he will receive a lot of competition
from Fauria next year. Fauria is very happy about being with the Patriots and had good success scoring touchdowns in college.

You must be on the coaching staff.

That's what happens when I listen to the coaches and players. Most say do your job and getting better so it becomes ingrained in our minds. I don't know if every one of the players actually get that message or really care. As jmike says, " there is no fire in the belly".

Up to this point in the season Chandler has underwhelmed. However, after witnessing Amendola emerge during critical stretches of the past playoffs, I will reserve judgment until after the season is over. You just never know what will happen down the stretch.
