Remember Brandon Browner??..

The Pats have moved on and they had almost nobody of mention except Mcourty and Butler on the roster. when Browner walked. The Seahawks have also moved on. 2 of the best top teams in the league passed on keeping him around.

Browner is a liability with his incessant holding and PI calls. Browner is what he is and the whole NFL knows it.

They both let him walk for the same reason. Salary cap issues and the fact that he wasn't worth his current contract or his new asking price. At a vet minimum, that completely changes. Are you going to try to tell me that a team would let a starting corner for a SB winning season go if he was willing to sign at the lowest price you can have a player for? Yeah, good luck trying to sell that one. I don't think he's a pro bowl corner anymore or anything, but I think he's worth 40k a game. Like I said, he's perfect for covering TE's & Tall WR's in red zone situations where he can't get burned over the top, and getting very very physical with larger WR early in games so he can wear them out. Even if that comes at the price of a 10-15 yard PI call.

Perhaps. But I am very glad he was on the Patriots last year. He did a very nice job for us and was instrumental in winning the Super Bowl.

The ship has sailed.

Browner will only grab and hold more that he is getting older and slower.

Thanks for the memories.

Its always about what can you do now and in the future and that's why Browner is on his 3rd team.

I'd like some folks more knowledgeable than I to explain why he can't play a "big nickle" /Chung type role.
He's not quick enough with his feet. He has a tendancy to bend at his waist instead of at his knees when going in for a tackle. He doesn't break down like you want your Chung type of player to do to really secure the tackle as he's often the last line of defense on the edge of the defense(except cb). I feel like the way he plays would lead to missed tackles on the outside against shiftier runners.

The main point is one I haven't seen addressed on this thread, which is that Browner is better than Justin Coleman or Rashaad Melvin as the #3. He's not having a good season on a bad Saints defense, but he had an okay season for the Pats last year and a really good tenure with the Seahawks. So if he gets released, I say sign him for less money because there's no other way to get a potential upgrade to the #3 corner position. Some seem to think Coleman is okay, but I haven't been impressed at all watching him. The guy let a receiver catch a touchdown on a post route in the end zone when he was specifically set up on the inside to take that route away.

WRONG.

Coleman is a pretty damn good rookie who is improving each day.

You evidently don't know about Coleman's injury that he has been playing through.

Patriots still missing Jamie Collins, Justin Coleman and Julian Edelman

".....Coleman suffered a hand injury at some point during the Patriots’ win over the Washington Redskins. He was wearing a black cast on his right hand, which also covered his thumb last week. The cornerback played during the first half, but not after halftime. After the game, the rookie’s right hand was swollen and he was visibly in pain."

Let's get the facts before making definitive statements.

I think that is pretty accurate. As a CB if he can't get his hands on the WR and redirect/stop his motion he is dead. He certainly does not have quick feet and would struggle with smaller RBs. I think he could do ok vs TE's/bigger receivers that are not as quick in space. That makes him pretty limited to what he can do on D.

BTW, next season, with Butler/Ryan/Brown/Coleman/Roberts, this will be a pretty damn good, young and cheap (ex- of Brown) cornerback grouping.

The Patriots Defense in 2016 will probably only lose the expensive Mayo. And all those youngsters on the DL and CB will have one more year of experience. Add to the excellent Hightower and Collins.

The potential to be an historically dominant Defense in 2016 is notable.

Our current #3 CB is Rashaad Melvin.

Let that sink in…

…Rashaad…Isn't He the Same Stiff Whom Brady Lit Up Like a Christmas Tree?!?…Melvin…

I would personally drive to NO and then drive to Foxborough with Brandon Browner in time for MNF
were he to suddenly become available.

Actually I take that back, he most likely knows hell be getting cut at the end of the season. He is currently only making 45k$ a game now. So he seeks to lose nothing if he were to be cut from the Saints and signed at a vet minimum by the pats. That has to be why he's making plays like that, starting trouble in the locker room, and taking so many penalties. Look it up, 1/3 (6) of those penalties this season have come in the last two weeks.
Lets face it, he wants to be this years Blount! He see's his chance to win another SB with the team he enjoyed playing for last year.
Yeah, like BB is going to welcome that act with open arms!

I wasn't making a definitive statement- I conceded others seem to see good play in Coleman before stating "I haven't been impressed at all." Hardly definitive.

Citing his injury doesn't make much sense, nor do I get how you assume I didn't know about it. The injury happened in week 9, which means there were plenty of injury-free games to watch Coleman. Also, I suppose you're grading on a curve, so to speak, but I'm not sure how you do that with a hand injury. It's not like he's a big tough physical guy jamming receivers at the line constantly. The issue I have in watching him is seeing glaring coverage errors that suggest to me he doesn't have much more than JAG talent. The hand injury wouldn't really affect plays like that much.

I do hope I'm wrong and that Coleman gets better, but I just don't see it. I'd rather have Browner, my main point being that Browner is far from perfect but better overall than Coleman/Melvin.

Pretty sure Blount had a contract waiting to be signed before the steelers game was even over. The game in which he was released after his walking out during half time.

Is Boston radio still desperate for him to come back?

I disagree. Browner is what Browner is, and thats not what the saints are attempting to use him for. He was perfect in going up against players like Demaryius Thomas & Calvin Johnson. Do any of you remember what he did to DT in the first half of the Denver game last year, he straight beat him up, threw him on the ground at least 6-8 times, and made his life living hell. By the time the 2nd half came around, he was useless, exhausted! Thats what Browner is good for. Lets not forget his importance in covering Matthews in the 2nd half of the SB. Im not even going to talk about his role in the interception that sealed the game for us. If we could get browner back at a Vet minimum, I would easily welcome him back. Not saying he would jump into our CB#2 role, but he could be used in certain situations, and against tall players in the red zone.
Yes our defensive staff, all of it are bad, but someone needs to explain why he keeps gettting penalites to hurt the team.

Bucs' Gosder Cherilus flagged for 10 penalties this year. Only Rams' Greg Robinson has more on offense. Saints DB Brandon Browner has 17.

Most penalties by a CB in 1yr since '07:

B.Skrine 17 (2014)
S.Routt 17 (2011)
B.Browner 15 (2015)
B.Browner 15 (2014)
B.Browner 15 (2011)

At some point it becomes his falt. No matter what team he plays on. Thats 17 1st downs. But our idiot defence signed up for it.

and yes he did. Browner was in a position to stop the run, but decided to take out a lineman. Bad defensive thinking. But 39 did the same thing, and 71 was holding.
Did Brandon Browner forgo tackle to take cheap shot at Redskins lineman?

Well, maybe he can be this season's Blount -- cut by his new team, then back with us for less money.
Shows how desperate we are for depth at CB - If this opportunity presents itself he can be used by the coaching staff here in ways that best utilize his strengths. Belichik acknowledges that Browner is a unique corner and should best be used as such.

Not that I've heard, and I listen pretty regularly.

I'll be honest, at least in the Sports Hub, I never heard any of the personalities on the radio say they wanted Browner back. It was always Revis.
