Remember Brandon Browner??..

I'm looking at that GIF and my first thought is he just wanted to take the guard out so another one of his player could tackle the runner instead of taking on the block, getting pushed back and not able to shed the block? I would need to see earlier in the play to see if Browner could have easily eluded the guard.

I dunna know. He looked like he lined up the ballcarrier and decided to blindside the OLineman trailing the play instead.

Vicious.

You know what? Since our shutdown corner left, we have been OK. That guy was more money -- a lot more money. No doubt he has helped the jets, but we have two more wins than we did at this time last year. I never second guess our front office.

I wonder if Matt knew how big we won. I think I know what he'd have said:
"It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Yamamoto had everything going for him, power, experience, confidence...Were we better than the Japanese, or just luckier?"

Anyone who uses a quote from that movie gets a "winner" from me :)

Whelp I was 100% wrong on that decision. Coleman had a bad game but, I think he'll bounce back.
Maybe he had bad game cause he wore a cast on his hand.

Browner has been terrible overall. It's not all his fault; he is forced into being a full-time player because Keenan Lewis can't get on the field and the nickel guy Swann has been fighting concussion issues all season. And Rob Ryan's defensive scheme is incomprehensibly stupid.

However, the thing is, he was brought in to be a "leader", we were told he is a "high character" guy and he's been anything but that. He had to be pulled off of a reporter in the locker room a couple weeks ago and throws hissy fits when he gets rightfully hit for penalties. He keeps making the same mistakes over and over, and yeah, that clip of him running to take out the Washington OL instead of trying to make a play on the ballcarrier speaks for himself.

I think we've got a huge mess on our hands. We've got a lot of good young players on this team. But every free agent we sign seems to blow up in our face, the coaching staff looks totally inept, Sean Payton himself is starting to remind me of the final days of Jim Mora before the famous "diddley poo" speech when he quit in the middle of the season. I don't know. The curse is back I guess.

I hope we blow it up in offseason. Totally new coaching staff and continue building through the draft. We have Cooks, Snead, Ingram, Spiller, Peat, Unger and Armstead on offense; Jordan, Anthony, Kikaha, Davison, Breaux, Lewis, Swann and Vaccaro on defense. That's not a bad place to start over, the cupboard is not bare.

No complaints about Browner last year, he gave us a solid effort and was a key component of last year's SB team. He was a tough physical corner. Put him with a good defense around him that can cover his liabilities and he can excel. He had an all pro year with Seattle before we signed him. He has a limited skill set and is one of the reasons he ended up in the CFL before Seattle signed him. According to Browner, the Patriots asked him to take a pay cut which he declined. As we well know, if the Patriots ask you to take a pay cut and you don't accept it, the odds are you are going to be looking for a job on another team.

I think with Revis leaving, the Patriots were not sure that Browner would be the no 2 corner and it was possible that he would be just a depth player used in certain defensive packages. With that in mind, they wanted him to take a pay cut.

Browner went to a bad defensive team. So bad their defensive co-ordinator got fired. The Patriots and Seattle put Browner in a position to succeed, the Saints did not. Browner would have made our secondary better but not at the expense of 5M a year. Remember in the last game Coleman was bad enough that he was replaced with Rashaan Melvin who was even worse then Coleman. It would have been nice to have a player like Browner instead of them.

I always felt Browner was a great situational player but was highly overrated as a full-time corner. He is solid against big wr's who aren't very quick and is great on the goal line and short yardage (the Butler play had a lot to do with him) because he can jam and play physical. He certainly has a place on a lot of teams, including this one, as a solid role player. He is just not a real cover corner.

*** BINGO ***

The main point is one I haven't seen addressed on this thread, which is that Browner is better than Justin Coleman or Rashaad Melvin as the #3. He's not having a good season on a bad Saints defense, but he had an okay season for the Pats last year and a really good tenure with the Seahawks. So if he gets released, I say sign him for less money because there's no other way to get a potential upgrade to the #3 corner position. Some seem to think Coleman is okay, but I haven't been impressed at all watching him. The guy let a receiver catch a touchdown on a post route in the end zone when he was specifically set up on the inside to take that route away.

Against big WRs he's better than Coleman. Against average size and quick WRs I would rather have Coleman. And I'm not so sure that I want Browner lining up in the slot. I think that he's at his best when he plays on the perimiter because of his size that makes it very hard for a QB to just throw it over him.

I wouldn't mind having Browner here for the veteran minimum and a non starter role where we only use him if there's a good matchup for him = big WR. But if he was just put in as the starter #2 or #3 CB I think our defense would take a step back, especially with his penalties.

No thanks on Browner

I disagree. Browner is what Browner is, and thats not what the saints are attempting to use him for. He was perfect in going up against players like Demaryius Thomas & Calvin Johnson. Do any of you remember what he did to DT in the first half of the Denver game last year, he straight beat him up, threw him on the ground at least 6-8 times, and made his life living hell. By the time the 2nd half came around, he was useless, exhausted! Thats what Browner is good for. Lets not forget his importance in covering Matthews in the 2nd half of the SB. Im not even going to talk about his role in the interception that sealed the game for us. If we could get browner back at a Vet minimum, I would easily welcome him back. Not saying he would jump into our CB#2 role, but he could be used in certain situations, and against tall players in the red zone.

If it weren't for the money thing, id say he's trying to get fired from the saints so he can come back to the Patriots. He seemed to like it here sorta how Blount did/does.

Actually I take that back, he most likely knows hell be getting cut at the end of the season. He is currently only making 45k$ a game now. So he seeks to lose nothing if he were to be cut from the Saints and signed at a vet minimum by the pats. That has to be why he's making plays like that, starting trouble in the locker room, and taking so many penalties. Look it up, 1/3 (6) of those penalties this season have come in the last two weeks.
Lets face it, he wants to be this years Blount! He see's his chance to win another SB with the team he enjoyed playing for last year.

Player's performance with another team is not always indicative of that player's performance with the Pats, as we've seen many times: Dillon, Moss, Blount, Mallett... and Browner.

Some guys snap into form with the right leadership and coaching. Context matters.

This team could tolerate his penalties and play when Revis was here, but less so now that he is gone.. BB saw the writing on the wall and allowed him to walk. His 16 accepted penalties may have made a difference on some of these close games..

He got confused with the NOLA slang and thought "lagniappe" happened on the field and not off the field..

Browner was good against TE's too. He was giving Julius Thomas a headache that game also.

The Pats have moved on and they had almost nobody of mention except Mcourty and Butler on the roster. when Browner walked. The Seahawks have also moved on. 2 of the best top teams in the league passed on keeping him around.

Browner is a liability with his incessant holding and PI calls. Browner is what he is and the whole NFL knows it.

Who??? Seriously one thing I will forever be Thankful for is Browner Blowin Up that pick and letting Butler shoot through for Game Sealing SB Pick.
