Keep Amendola past this year?

Question for all us Pats fans. Do YOU want to keep Danny past this season? Under what conditions? Do you think the Pats will?

In my opinion, the answer here has gone from a "maybe, but I don't think so" 12 months ago to "f*** yes!" right now. He's really nearly become Welker 2.0 at this point. People shouldn't think of him as Edelman's backup because they're not really used the same way, but he's versatile enough to alleviate things somewhat when Jules is hurt (which is semi-common with how balls-out Edelman plays). At the same time, Amendola has been injury-riddled in his career, though IMO he doesn't seem to be over-extending himself this year like I've seen him do in the past.

Your thoughts, fellow posters?

Extend him another year and restructure to save a few $$ against cap next year and yes, please. of course, this is dependent on the rest of this year, where he'll have to show up every game.

Not at his cap #, and what if Harper shows something?

2016 looks like Harper replacing Amendola IMO.

Will Amendola take another paycut?

He'll redo his deal to stay.

Has family in Mass and his gf works for CSNNE.

If he is willing to rework his deal again then yes, otherwise I'm not sure $6.9M is a big number for a 31 year old slot WR.

I will say outside of maybe Faulk in recent memory I cannot recall a player who rises to the occasion as much as Amendola has in the past year and a half.

LaFell is a free agent at the end of 2016 as well, so decisions will have to be made for sure.

While I tend to agree I have to acknowledge that the argument was similar for Wilfork and his roots here this past offseason, he opted to go someplace different.

Hell yes.

Yes. He has been able to grasp the offense and makes plays when called upon.

Depends on the $$$$

He seems very happy here, he and Edelman seem like two peas in a pod. I think he's the kind of guy who probably realizes he got paid a lot of money just to mostly rehab/not contribute much for most of a couple years, and doesn't necessarily have a ton of years left - may as well spend them in a winning organization with people you love. Idk, I just have a hard time seeing him getting cut at the end of the year and signing some big deal in like Cleveland or something. He played for years for the Rams, I'm sure he knows quite well the difference between an also-ran organization and the New England Patriots.

Also, don't know if it counts for a lot, but I feel like I've seen him doing a ton of stuff for local charities. Seems like every couple days I see his name linked to some local event either in the Twitter timeline or in the players' posts up top.

Ya but Pats and Wilfork butted heads over money multiple times the last 5-6 years and in order for him to stay he was gonna have to take substantially less than he got from Houston (2 yr/$9m $5m gtd) and just the year before he re-did his deal and got less.

Amendola has a $5M salary for 2016. The team could negotiate at any point, including after the beginning of the next contract year.

There is a $500K bonus, but I don't see that being a significant factor in making or not making a deal.

Frankly, I don't think the team wanted him to stay. I think they loved him, but they we're ready to move on.

Loved Vince here. But... did you see him on Monday night? He looked like he'd swallowed Amendola. o_O

The cap is going to jump next year o $160 million, so it's not like his salary will break the bank - and keep in mind he's not "just" a WR either - he's a decent return man.

But I'd have to think that Belichick has better things to do with that kind of cash. If they think Amendola's skills and body can last then maybe extend him a year and give him another lump sum to lower the cap

Obviously like everyone I want him back and think his value transcends his stats - but $7 million in a cap hit is a bit much even with a $160 million cap
