With a situation like this you can only try and find a positive spin. At least this injury to Edelman happened in week 10 rather than in week 16. With the situation as it currently is, there is a chance that Edelman will be back for the playoffs. If anything, the Patriots under Belichick and Brady have demonstrated time and again that winning in the regular season is as easy as breathing for them.
