Joseph Fauria signed to Practice Squad

Chandler has had a couple dumb plays but has otherwise been fine for the role he was signed to play. He's been good in the red zone and has definitely been at least as good as the player he effectively replaced (Tim Wright).

Fauria has some real red zone skills, don't know how good he is otherwise. Definitely the type of guy the practice squad is made for - someone skilled in one area who needs to polish up other areas. Would be cool to see him later this year/next year. Granted, Asante Cleveland is also on the PS doing the same thing. With Gronk, Chandler, Williams, Cleveland, and now Fauria, they've got a bit of a TE pipeline going.

That game was frustrating. Nothing went right, especially in the second half starting with Wes' drop. That game was an absolute clusterfvck from to beginning to end.

That was the game that did me over on Wes, moreso than the Giants SB the year before. That drop against the Ravens should have been a catch. We were up 13-7 that would have at the very least put us in FG range, and he dropped a 3rd down conversion...Ehhh

Back on Fauria, I really like the signing. He's a cornball like his uncle, and i mean that in a good way. If he gives us the TDs his uncle did, id be happy!

It's amazing how it's OK to say that Jordan Richards has "it" because of one heads-up play in garbage time Week 3, but after half a season of being nearly useless, Chandler is still too new to criticize in some people's eyes. I haven't given up on the guy, but if some posters have, it's hardly a ridiculous stance.

I'm actually feeling better about Chandler now, as he joins a LONG line of Pats players who have had people calling for their ouster including:

Edelman
Amendola
LaFell
Kline
Wendell
Connolly
Solder
Hightower
McCourty
Chung
Ryan
Etc
Etc
Etc

:D

Ken in your dotage you fergot that awful waste of a 2nd round pick, Collins.

A very interesting move.

If Chandler is cut the Pats save $1.5m+ off next years cap and ~$1.2m+ over the remainder of his deal.

Wonder if they are thinking of Williams being more used at OT?

I see Fauria II as developmental. He might beat out the other PS TE or he might be cut within days or weeks if backups to new injured players are unexpectedly needed.

Possibly. He had a nice rookie year then poof.

I have learned not to count any player out that the Patriots put on the roster. I have seen too many UDFAs and scrap heap players become stars or valuable pieces on this team to think otherwise. As far as I am concerned, until a player is cut/waived I think they could be a factor.

Chandler has done ok from my point of view. He has been a moderate weapon in the red-zone, but dropping catchable balls or fumbling are 2 sure-fire ways to get BB looking for something better.

Fauria is equal in size and younger. May have some upside if his hands are better. Some players just don't have great hand-eye coordination and all the coaching in the world sometimes can't correct that.

From the TE class that yielded Zack Sudfeld and Michael Williams.
Led his TE draft class with 12 TD's at UCLA - yes, a real Red Zone threat.
Some potential.

While Chandler only has 13 receptions, 2 of them have resulted in TD's. I'm fine with this given the few chances he's had in this offense.

Perhaps, with the injuries to Edelman and Lewis, we will now see him more involved in the offense ?

I love this. Wanted us to sign him as soon as he got cut.

Too many people hatin on Chandler...

There were also a lot of people quitting on the Pats when they were down by 7 and a whole half to play a few days, ago. People were actually posting: "They're all done." And there were many complaining about lead margins and margins of victory in the previous games.

You forgot to include that Brady kid. Seem to remember some consternation after that KC game last year, but then maybe my memory could be a bit foggy. Good call on that list though, Ken. Spot on. :)

Also, FYI, Pats have signed six players from the practice squad to the roster.
Khyri Thornton, Brandon King, Cameron Fletcher, Eric Martin, Chris Barker, Chris Harper.

Fauria makes the 25th player of the practice squad, based on the names I have seen.

Not surprising. Game threads can go to hell. You'll hear guys talk about how TB looks terrible, this receiver is garbage, we're a terrible team, blah, blah, blah. Then when we win, they're right back to kissing ass, pretending they never said anything. Thank god I no longer go to those threads.

And if we throw draft tantrums into the mix, Logan Mankins and many more would be on that list, as well..perhaps, even Tom Brady?! o_O

I'm so glad that BB coaches this team. :D

Yeah, the child always acts like they never heard anything for the first time. ;)

That was pathetic. I jumped off the game thread at that point. The sense of entitlement from some 'fans' for a blowout every game defies logic.
