Asking for your support

Are you rooting for the Patriots to go 19-0?

  • YES. Of course the Super Bowl is paramount, but I also want 19-0—time to make history!

  • NO. It’s meaningless and I just don’t care. The Super Bowl is all that matters.

Anyone who says 19-0 is meaningless is saying it because they know it most likely won't happen.

As long as we have #12 under center, anything is possible. Brady can do anything. Just gotta keep feeding him deflategate fuel on the daily and pissing him off. And, I mean, what other team has a better shot at going 19-0 than the very same team (yes, I know 97% of the players we had from 2007 are gone) who almost did it?

I don't get how 18 people voted that going 19-0 is meaningless. I mean option A clearly says Super Bowl is obviously the most important thing. Why would you not want 19-0 to go with it? What'll everyone say then??
As one of the "18," let me explain the logic behind my "vote."

I think "19--0" is a toxic distraction. The wording of the question really didn't give me a chance to indicate that sentiment.

I think the Pats were as tight as a drum going into SB XLII and lost to an inferior team. Even Belichick's usually flawless judgment was off when he didn't let Gostkowski attempt a 49 yard FG in a dome early in the second half.

So, what my "vote" really meant to say was, I think adding the pressure of going 19--0 to the already enormous pressure of winning the SB creates a distraction that I don't think is helpful.

All reasonable points, and I think that's the common denominator of those who said no (and again, I get that more nuanced selections could have been included, but I thought this way it really get to the key question).

But again, feeling that way, and as counter to fandom as it runs....when do you want them to lose? Would it have been better just to have the Giants win? NFC game after all. Maybe too much history there to stomach that though. The Bills? The Eagles? Or is it more, no, you can never root against the Pats in the moment, but there's an abstract hope they lose at some point before they go 16-0?

You guys know that if they do go 19-0 they would also be breaking their own record of consecutive wins?

3-0 playoffs last year
19-0 this year

22 in a row. That would be a nice topping on the cake as well.

Wow!
After voting I see there are more masochists here than I thought.

Poll Rephrased:
YES. I would like to see the Patriots go 19-0 and win the Super Bowl.
NO. I would rather see the Patriots lose the next 7 games, be miserable for 7 weeks, ruin Christmas, ruin New Years, then squeak in as a wild card and win the Super Bowl.

Sheesh what's wrong with (some of) you people. Lol.

Of course I want 19-0.

If the do not achieve that then I just want them to win their last game that would occur after Jan 3rd

Count me in the "no" category.

Because your re-phrasing is wrong. "19-0 is meaningless and I just don't care". That's how I feel. Win the title. Anything else is whatever.

I wouldn't consider any team that went 19-0 and won the Super Bowl as "meaningless", so I went with the YES.

The object of competition is to win every time you take the field. My thoughts are in line with others. I never want to see the Patriots lose. 19-0, after DefameGate would be the ultimate FU to the corrupt commissioner and his cronies.

Brady has become emotionally and competitively dependent on Jules.

I am going to be an idiot but I choose to look at a potential positive of Jules being out so that others can understand what it means to not just 'lip-service' step up but actually step up, in real games against teams that will be giving this team their best in November and December.

Jules will be back this year and the chemistry with TFB will be there. Brady can't throw and catch the ball, lets see if these other guys in their regular role can put a little extra in that cut and secure that ball a little more. Coaching-wise, they will find the skill-set on that roster that will do just enough Jules-like production to get us into a first round buy.

I am ok with a loss or two as long as home field is there and the team on the field is producing is spots Jules would have been had he been there.

I'd love 19-0 of course (shut those 72 Fins up once and for all!), but I'll happily take a few losses if we ultimately win the SB.

I want to see Roger Goodell handing over the trophy and standing there while everyone in the team glares at him like they're ready to destroy him. An extra bonus would if the SB MVP steps up to the Mike and says "so when are you going to give us our draft picks back? You know you've got no case etc..."

My priorities:

1. Make playoffs (check);
2. Get #1 seed (even with losses);
3. Rest tired and injured key players (early bye);
4. Win AFCCG;
5. Win SB

16-0 season been done. QB with 5 SB wins never been done. Shula can suck it.

really surprised in the voting. SB is the only thing that matters, imo
Then again, might be the wording

I also think that being 18-0 is an added distraction that might make winning the Super Bowl at least a little bit harder.

But if we overcame that distraction and won it anyway, the result would be glorious. So if you tell me we will win the Super Bowl, I'm deleriously happy if we are 12-7, 16-3, or whatever. But if we are 19-0, I'll be blabbing about it incessantly to my grandkids one day, long after I've lost my marbles. No, I don't have any grandkids yet, but I still have most of my marbles.

I like Troy Brown's answer to the question of losing a game so you don't have the extra pressure of going undefeated:

"No man we play to win the game!...that's the object of the game you play to win...No it doesn't take any pressure off because once one team beats you everybody thinks they can beat you...regardless if you tank it on purpose, take Tom out, put Garopollo in, whatever reason why you lost the game every team thinks they got a chance to beat you now. And I just think you go out and play. You play to win every single game and the pressure part of it just comes from yourself, comes from within....and we won't have to listen to Mercury Morris anymore.*"

*Yeah I edited it a little bit haha

Always disliked Mercury Morris. What an overly verbose douchebag. The first time that I couldn't finish an episode of A Football Life was when he appeared on the episode about Miami's trio of running backs from the 70's. I could only imagine how annoying a person he must be in real life. Got the vibe that Kiick wanted to punch him in the face throughout the part that I managed to endure through.

Going undefeated is effectively winning the Super Bowl against all other Super Bowl winners. It makes you the greatest of all time.

The fundamental reason you want to win the Super Bowl in the first place is for the glory of being the best that year. Otherwise every team would just get a participation trophy. You want to be the best.

If you're the GOAT team, your status isn't just for that one year, it is for all time (at least until a more impressive team comes along).

Everyone wants that deep down.

Losing games in the regular season but going on to win the SB >>>>>>> going undefeated in the regular season but not winning the SB

You play 60 minutes every game and you play every game to win

There's no strategy or over thinking it

With a lot of work and a lot more luck, 19-0 is something that would be extraordinary - and Belichick the Historian would NEVER turn his back on making history like that

But winning a 5th SB would be a plenty good FU to he Haters just on its own

Losing games in the regular season but going on to win the SB >>>>>>> going undefeated in the regular season but not winning the SB
And water is wet. Everyone agrees with that. Winning the SB is the goal.

The question is whether winning it at 19-0 would add any importance /joy/satisfaction whatsoever.
