Asking for your support

Are you rooting for the Patriots to go 19-0?

  • YES. Of course the Super Bowl is paramount, but I also want 19-0—time to make history!

  • NO. It’s meaningless and I just don’t care. The Super Bowl is all that matters.

I never understood why going into the postseason at 16-0 is more stressful than any other record.

In the playoffs every game is a must win or your season is over no matter what your record is. So why would 16-0 make u feel more stressed than 9-7. Similarly I disagree that being 18-0 in 07 had any influence on the players in the SB. You'd think both teams in the season finale really want to go home with the trophy. Not sure why the record up to that point would play any role.
The one time I've really seen Brady ****y was his presser prior to 2007 SB. The little smug chuckle and "We're only going to score 17 points?" or whatever the exact comment was. I'm not usually superstitious or a believer in karma but I had a bad feeling as soon as I saw that. Not sure being overconfident had any bearing on the outcome but I don't think it helped.

For the record, I'm pretty sure none of us who voted no are "rooting against 19-0." Like someone else said, what fan roots for their team to lose a game? Lol. We just don't care if we go 16-0 or not.

And one more thing... Patriots themselves say they don't care, but I think they're lying. I say this because with every win, I'm hearing, "How do we feel about being *insert number of wins*-0!?" in every post game huddle.

I don't get how 18 people voted that going 19-0 is meaningless. I mean option A clearly says Super Bowl is obviously the most important thing. Why would you not want 19-0 to go with it? What'll everyone say then??

You play every game to win and a loss does not increase the odds of a win the following game.

I hope they do it ... I won't fret if they don't ... it's all about the Super Bowl.

strahan and umenyiora were pissed at brady after that press conference. guess what? they used him as a pineta a few days later. you have to be careful with your words.

I noticed that too. Wish they would say "How do we feel about being 1-0 this week?" but they're veterans and reigning Super Bowl champions, I think they know how to approach each game one at a time

I dont care about 19-0, just win 10 more games this season ;)

I think if they go 16-0, they HAVE to go 19-0. Or even if they got to 15-0, losing that last one ( likely meaningless) would still look kinda crappy. A SB would lessen that by a lot though.

I would lose my mind if they came that close to a perfect season TWICE and lost (whether in the divisional round, AFC championship or SuperBowl)

Plus, we as fans wouldn't hear the end of it. It would be kind of embarrassing and I think the only "injury pass" we'd get is if Brady got hurt.

I think I'd be all for 19-0 if Lewis and Edelman were healthy. Or maybe just if Edelman's injury wasn't so tight for time (+ always potential of him not being 100% for playoffs or re-injuring like Gronk did vs Houston). That combined with the o-line walking on thin ice, I'm just not sure how to feel.

Imagine if we went 15-1 and then won the SB. Then when people say 18-1 we could have something to cheer for! lol

LOL this is exactly what I was thinking too

Anyone who says 19-0 is meaningless is saying it because they know it most likely won't happen. Its kinda like people who are pessimistic before games to protect their heart just in case they lose. How the hell can you call a perfect season meaningless? PLEASE..... That being said the superbowl is the ultimate goal. Id be thrilled with that even if we lose a couple of regular season games and Id be more than satisfied.

I thought we could pull off 19-0, but with Edelman and Lewis out it looks less likely. I think it's best that we don't go undefeated because it takes less pressure off them to win the SB. I thought back in '07 that there was just waaaaaay too many expectations for the Pats (especially the offense) to live up to and that just made the defeat hurt that much more. Brady rarely mentions the loss in 2011, he's still, after all these years, bothered by the SB defeat in 2007. Even after laying waste to the Seabirds, like a kid with a BB gun, he is still thinking about what-could've-been in that Giants SB.

I'm still holding McDaniels personally responsible for that one, his stubborn play-calling made us look like an average offense against those little giant chumps. Archie's son really lucky that night. Now I've made myself mad again.

I feel like there's less pressure to go undefeated this time. When the Pats were 9-0 in 2007, it seemed like that's all the football world was talking about. What's different this time:

-- 2007 was right after CameraPlacementGate which was the first time the Patriots integrity was called into question. Of course, we had PV = nRT this year but that happened last January as opposed to right before the season. This year it feels like there is less defiance from the whole team (although obviously there is some -- just not the level that Bruschi et al had in 2007). Playing with the monster chip on their shoulders in '07 was probably draining by the end of the year.

-- Carolina is still undefeated and until the past two weeks, two other teams were too. We don't have the singular focus on our team.

-- In 2007, it had never been done before in a 16 game season, so there was some novelty to that. This year, we'd just be repeating the accomplishments of a previous team (that happens to have the same coach and QB). So hopefully the microscope and attention isn't on the team for the same amount of time, so there is less mental energy spent in the back of the players heads. Again, it doesn't seem there is nearly as much discussion about it now as there was after week 9 in 2007.

-- We are the defending Super Bowl champions; it just seems there is inherently less pressure to win in that situation (for better or worse) -- although I can see people disagreeing with this last point.

Obviously this is all speculation on my point and I can't possibly imagine what goes through the heads of players in these situations, but it's pretty clear that the spotlight isn't shining as brightly this time around.

I clicked no i dont care, but of course i Do care. 19-0 would he the perfect punctuation on the F-u go-to-hell tour. I am just having battered-wife (fan) syndrome right now from all the OL and now edeldude injuries. In both SB losses we had key OL go down early on in the game and TB got pressured /2d +gronk got injured and the receiving options werent there. That is the current sit ....Without edeldude and the parade of walking wounded. i just dont think ANYMORE that they have the depth to Beat off 10 more Teams that think (regardless of it being week 11 or week 21): This week is "our superbowl" multiplied by 'let us be the ones to end their perfect season.'

As to who could end the perfect Season Part II, my money is only on Buffy and the jesters.

Denver has been exposed for two weeks running and i think they could lose a few more to even make their div interesting and potentially leaving them at home in Jan.

The phish, someone mentioned they could be motivated to protect the Club History, but at that point of year i think they have to be feeling the cumulative effects of Suh eating up their discretionary ability to buy depth. Once pats get up by 10, they will be mentally checked out.

As long as we get a ring for the middle finger, that's what matters most to me.

I have to admit though, 19-0 would be an awesome way to say "**** you" to the Poison Ginger and his minions.
...and the whole team heads immediately to the locker room after the game and Bob Kraft names Jastremski and McNally as the Patriots' "designated representatives" to accept the Lombardi from Goodell...

I was too hollow to cry. I basically shut down and only visited this site for the next 78 hours.
Yeah, that was my reaction. This Board probably saved my sanity and I'll forever be grateful to Ian for keeping the trolls out of here after the game.

I had some company over for the game and I started to prepare myself for the worst when Tyree made his "catch," and then, when it was over, just excused myself and went into my bedroom, lay down and stared at the ceiling...the worst part (then and in 2012) was that I live in NYC and had to listen to the horns honking and people celebrating in the streets until the wee hours. For an entire week, I picked up the NY Times and NY Daily News on my apartment doorstep in the morning and walked them down the hall and threw them into the trash chute without looking at them...

So, I really don't care all that much about 19--0. Putting aside the Tomass [may ten thousand monkeys defecate on his grave and may a curse be upon his house for a thousand generations] article, I think that the Pats were living in a pressure cooker for the two months leading up to the SB in 2008 and, in the week before the game, I found myself wishing that they were 17--1 going into the SB and the monkey of an undefeated season and being a 14 point pick was off their backs.

The pressure would probably be easier to deal with this time, but all I want is "one more for the thumb" for Tommy and the satisfaction of watching Goodell having to hand the trophy to the Patriots. 19--0 would be nice, but not at the cost of that moment!

I don't care what everyone says. Why do you?

It's ideal but that last one is the important one
