Edelman: Broken Foot, Likely Back for Playoffs

Vs decent defenses? Don't know if any can. However if the Pats can sustain this pace w/o Edelman/Dion... well that just adds to the legend of TB12 and BB.

Remains to be seen though.

Luckily, we have excellent coaches (Belichick and McDaniels, specifically) and a future HOF quarterback who has dealt with these types of losses before, so I'm sure they are hard at work getting as creative as possible. Personally, I'm guessing that they'll attempt to weather the storm while #11 is out via a combination of ways:

1) More emphasis on the running game, which is the norm for post-Thanksgiving football on a Belichick coached team as it is.

2) Amendola---let's remember that he was initially brought here to replace Wes Welker, and he started off his Patriots career with a bang until getting injured. He had 7 catches in the first quarter alone during his preseason debut, and then went on to notch double digit receptions in week #1 of the regular season.

It was actually Amendola's groin injury that allowed Julian Edelman to earn additional reps and carve his niche, and eventually he took over the role, but let's not forget that Amendola does have plenty of experience in the short passing game. I doubt that we see a 100 percent smooth transition, but if Amendola gives us 80 percent of what Edelman did we'll be just fine. I'm expecting about 70 percent, but I also think Belichick and Brady will do other things to combat the injury.

3) More focus on the TEs. We all know what Scott Chandler can do, and he's a nice red zone target to have, but they still haven't gotten him going as much as they're capable of thus far. Having Chandler and Gronk in on more 2 and 3 TE sets allows the option of both run and pass, and provides more versatility.

4) Brandon LaFell? Hello...the guy was one of the more clutch receivers in the postseason last season, and caught 75 balls in our system in 2014.

We see that Mac has put Chandler in and Brady has tried to go to him. A couple of consecutive plays in Red Zone Brady went to him but couldn't get TD. Chandler gets seperation and can come up big in schemes.

He can definitely help to contribute in the passing game, no doubt about it.

Gonna need everyone even more now. Best part is we have TB who can spread it out to different receivers.

Yes, stuck.

Only the uber homers on this board such as yourself and sg3 already view Sanchez as a Top 10 QB. The reality is, he's not close to that at this point in time.

There was no need for this. The only way this makes sense is if we end up bringing in a guy like Mario Williams. If no Peyton, then the Jets should've rode out this season with Sanchez on his current deal and if he showed significant improvement, THEN sign him to an extension next offseason.

If he takes us to the AFCCG twice in the next three years, while you're crying about his contract, then I LOVE being "STUCK"

He got the same money as Kevin Kolb and Ryan Fitspatrick, and that money isn't even guaranteed

There WAS A need for the move, on several levels, you are just too naive, or too caught up in your mindless and baseless agenda to see it.

- Frees up a huge amount of cap space
- Converts money into guaranteed money that already existed on his existing deal
- New money isn't guaranteed, Jets have an out after the next 2 years if need be
- Despite the media SPUN off-season, it sends a huge statement to Sanchez himself, and the so-called "unnamed sources," or any other doubter that they are committed to Sanchez and the body of work the last 3 years provides PLENTY of just reasoning. This is big because the locker room doesn't have to wonder about the QB of the team, they don't have to wonder if he's a lame duck or not, they can either strap it on and get on board, or be gone.

It was a HUGE move, the right move, a savvy move, a fiscally positive move, a GREAT move!!!!

Now you see, THIS is "remains to be seen"....THIS is the Rat fan's perception of NFL reality. It is, of course, preposterous, dunderheaded, obtuse and moronic. This is why Jet fan should STFU 100% of the time.

Ah @Joker, you sure do live up to your name. Though I might suggest "Jester" would be an even better fit. Regardless, ya don't disappoint with your comedic and simple posts. Keep 'em coming brotha! Nice occasional change of pace from the serious and insightful conversations with others.

heh..."serious"?.."insightful"...surely you jest...here, take a look at THIS insight...

Now that we are in the lead as far as securing the #1 seed and a bye, no way Edelman comes back for the last game of the season.

He'll be 100% for the divisional rounds on 1/16, after the bye.

Almost 9 weeks.
Why wouldn't he play in the final game if he is ready? He will be much more ready for the playoffs if he plays football.

The sooner a guy comes back from this kind of injury the more vulnerable he is to a refracture.

With the current projected timetable, I'd be happy to see him come back for the first playoff game to shake the rust off, and then be fresh, rested, healthy and strong for the championship game and Super Bowl.

I understand your thinking but you really don't want any rusty players out there for your 1st playoff game.

It's pretty simple from my view.

If he is 100% healed he plays Week 17 a partial load. If he isn't ready, he doesn't play.

I'm confident the Pats will muddle along without Edelman for the next 6-7 weeks. No question it hurts badly, but nothing has changed, just the margin of error has shrunk. And we have seen how close things are in the league.

This week in the NFL was the epitome of "on any given Sunday", with the Packers, Denver, Bengals, and a whole host of additional upsets. Perhaps one of the great stats coming out of this week was that home teams when 3-14.

But I did hear some negative news. One doctor commenting on Edelman's Jones fracture, confirmed the 6-8 week time frame for recovery. However he added something I hadn't heard before. Studies have shown that there is a 20% chance of the bone re-fracturing after surgery. That is NOT what you want to hear.

Yeah, but it's not like they wait for a "ready" light to pop on. The longer he rests it, the better off he is.

But you know, if the conversation come that time is whether to play him against Miami, I'll be pretty happy that's the conversation, if you know what I mean.

So there's a an 80% chance he'll be fine! Glass half-full, Ken. ;)

I am pissed. It was a premonition when he did not go down in the first quarter over a play that had a chance to go nowhere. I said at the time, I hope Brady tells him to just go down, he is too critical to be fighting for nothing. Brady said this about three weeks ago in his WEEI radio show about telling guys to just go down or out of bounds.
When he starter the same thing on that play that injured him, I was yelling for him to go down then I saw at the corner of my eye that he tried to grab his foot and I had the sinking feeling.
Gronk is now playing smarter, he goes down, he knows when fools like Ward are gunning for his knees and gives into them rather.

News is MUCH better than out until next season. If its anything like Dez's injury, then there is real hope to see JE in Playoffs and close if not back to his old self. Thats all we can hope for at this point.

They will dress him for last game and in for a few plays maybe otherwise there is practice.

Agreed, but more often than not its what brings out competitive fire in players to keep play alive, breakin a tackle etc. When they do and make a big play or TD we say what a second effort but when it doesn't,well we see what happens.

If Edelman is anywhere near 80-90% when he returns New England has to be the favorites to win it all again! I'm praying to God to heal this man's foot so he can help us in our quest for one for the thumb!
