What a week in the NFL! We start with Sexy Rexy thumping the team that fired him, then the 'skins crush the Saints, Detroit beats the Packers, Jacksonville has an improbable comeback, and New England and the Giants play the Superbowl in November. Then Brian Hoyer tames the Bengals. Only Carolina bored us this week. The NFL ought to put this whole week online for people who want to know what professional football is all about!

From the Patriots perspective:

-Bengals and Broncos both lost at home against sub-.500 teams. This is why I pointed out the absurdity of a recent thread they 15-1 might not get you a bye. lol.

-Jets lost, giving the Patriots a 4.5 game lead in the division.

-Rodgers laid another egg and Dalton stunk. MVP is Brady's to lose; let's hope he doesn't.

-Peyton Manning failed so miserably in chasing his beloved records it is actually hard to take that much pleasure in it. Not sure if the Broncos are better or worse now, but but a 5x MVP has been benched on a team that two weeks ago looked like one of the league's best three teams.

-Did I mention the Patriots got to break the Giants hearts for once?

-As good as all these things were, still potentially a net negative with the loss of Edelman. Sure hope he recovers quickly.

Brian Hoyer didn't do crap, TJ Yates beat the Bengals. As per usual.
In a 10-6 game, most of the taming probably wasn't at the hands of either QB. It's just a nice Pats tie in.

I'm just glad Mondays night game is at Foxboro after all our injuries and a key divisional game.

I thought this was a strange week in the NFL. All season long, there have been few upsets. This week nothing seemed to go as expected. I have no hair left after the Giants game-Tell me again why I watch football.

Hoyer was in for only 3 of those 10 Houston points.

Maybe you just didn't see the game.

This isn't worthy of its own thread, so I'll put it here.

Next Sunday in New England the early game on CBS will be Jets at Houston, and early game on FOX will be Dallas at Miami. Green Bay at Minnesota will be the late game on FOX, broadcast everywhere except the Pacific Northwest.

This week is the last week for byes, and this week is also the first for flex scheduling. KC at SD got bumped out of the Sunday night slot and was replaced by Bengals at Arizona, and GB-MIN was moved from a 1:00 pm kick off to a late start.

Thursday night's game may be one of the worst of the entire 2015 season (Tennessee-Jacksonville).

The NFL wanted parity, and they got a league full of 4-5, 3-6 and 2-7 teams. There are only three games between teams with winning records (would have been only two had the Jets beat the Bills), and none start until 4:30 pm Sunday:
  • 6-3 Packers at 7-2 Vikings (4:30 pm ET Sun)
  • 8-1 Bengals at 7-2 Cardinals (Sunday night)
  • 5-4 Bills at 9-0 Patriots (Monday night)

Denver is done. Not only is their team showing decline from earlier in the season (especially their defense) but this QB situation will be toxic for that locker room. No doubt that Peyton will want to start again once he considers himself "healthy." I could see Elway and Kubiak giving him that opportunity because he still has one more record to break, at the cost of what's best for the team. And if they don't, then you have a bitter, sulking HOFer sitting on the bench, and an inexperienced QB starting.

We've seen how mentally weak that team is when dealing with adversity. This won't end well for them.
