Scott Chandler Lets call it like it is

This board is far too spoiled by what Gronk has done. Gronk just isn't a size/speed/power freak of nature, he is also a phenomenal catcher. He just sets the bar too high.

After the Chandler drop, Gronk grabs a bad pass that was below his knees without breaking stride. Don't think even Bavaro or Gonzalez could have ever done that.

Gronk has no peer. A normal big guy, like Chandler or LaFell needs some work to get fluid. Gronk was a blocking TE in college, his athletic growth is unprecedented. chandler will catch some touchdowns and have maybe a game or two where he has a few catches thanks to Gronk's coverage. He needs to hit the juggs machine, because he isn't getting enough touches to loosen up that way.

Iffy hands is like the worst thing any kind of receiver can have. Downs are important and when you burn one of them botching a wide open gain for huge yards or a TD, that can be the difference in a game.

True, but a couple of weeks ago he deflected a catchable ball over the middle, that nearly turned into a pick.

His hands have been very unreliable to the point that Brady may stop looking in his direction.

I wouldn't want to cut him since TE is so hard to find, but he has been very disappointing to say the least.

I think he will likely not be on the team next year unless he picks up his game.

The poster i quoted said you either have immediate chemistry with Brady or you never do. that's what i said was ridiculous. So he's not getting targeted much and has had the yips when he has. Just catch a few touchdowns while Gronk's covered and I'm fine with it.

He's a decent receiver for a huge TE and probably thrives on more work. I think he'll be helpful. we've seen what he did when he got a chance in Buff, not bad.

Gronk is from another planet. 6'7" guys tend to be clunky.

It may not be surprising, but it's enough to justify people being disappointed in the signing, to date. Chandler has to be better than this, because he's not a good blocker. They could have gotten more from OHOH than they've gotten from Chandler, so far.

I would take him over Hooman every time because he does flash potential and has a higher upside. Just has to be a lot more consistent.

Hopefully his being benched last night will help him see the light and understand what passes as acceptable in Buffalo is not acceptable in New England.

watching chandler makes me miss the hooman.
remember that one handed td against the dolphins in 2013..chandler could never do that.
ohoh was also a better blocker ( not saying much )

chandler is a larger version of tim wright.

People get dissapointed that the $1M TE is a $1M Te.

That sounds good.

However, the patriots will pay Chandler over $3.2M this year and another $2M next year. Chandler was signed as a $2.6M a year TE. That's NOT chump change.

He who should not be named was a far better football player than Chandler.

Well of course, but I'm talking about drops. Hernandez was worse with drops than Chandler.

Haven't read through all these pages but chandler really making me wish the team had made a move for Ben Watson a few years ago. He'd have excelled as the number two alongside Gronk. Oh well.

But yes chandler pretty much as advertised by Bill's fans. He's adequate but the visions of him and Gronk being an unstoppable red zone duo turned out to be fantasy.

Not me. Sorry, but I've been calling the guy mediocre all along...and loudly.

Even so, he's not a bad Reserve at all, and I'm glad we have'm.

Yes, I never bought into this "twin towers" hype that we heard here all offseason, but as you say, he fills a role as a reserve TE, a red zone target, and currently...an extra receiving option to pick up some of the slack from Edelman's injury.

He's been targeted only 21 times this season, catching 13 of those passes, so while I'm a bit down on him, he hasn't been getting as many looks as in the past, either.
