Austin Collie Anyone?

Was a functional receiver in '13 for the Pats for a few games. Played in CFL for BC Lions this season. Their season just ended. Not sure how CFL contracts work...
Might be worth kicking the tires???????
Not even a little

Why are people so anti-Collie. We are talking about the bottom of roster WR. He came in and played adequately a few years ago. And it's not like he was sitting in his couch he just played in Canada so is healthy and in game shape.

I don't think OP was lobbying to put him on the field for 65% of snaps but they need another body and he makes sense to at least take a look at.

I know people love the shiny unknown PS toy, but Collie is a proven serviceable NFL WR which is what this team needs.

That's a ridiculous position to take, but you're entitled to your opinion.
Fully agreed. I would have had no problem with Welker returning from a personal side. I still really liked him. But honestly I'd much rather see him not play at all because of his concussions. So I wouldn't have wanted us to sign him.

Collie kind of goes in the same "I don't want to see him play football again" category.

I'm guessing that we'd be more receptive if there was more of a desperate feel to things, however there are still viable options in the receiving area. Let's hope that we don't get to a point where his services are needed.

You're right that he filled something of a role during that awful WR year of 2013 and that he knows the system. We could definitely do worse.

We can only speculate as to whether or not this would've been a possibility in the mind of Bill Belichick.

On the one hand, you have a WR who was proven in our system on the cheap. That part of it seems like a no brainer. On the other hand, Belichick can be stubborn and he may have a lower opinion of Welker's current ability than we do. There's also hints of bad blood there--major hints.

For me, it's 50/50 as to whether or not he'd have reached out to Wes Welker. He very well may have attempted to win via alternative avenues, going against the grain of popular fan and media thinking. It's a great question and I'd love to know the answer.

Because he wasn't very good when he was on the team before and I really can't see any reason why they would add him. Granted this suggestion was posted before harper was promoted to the 53 man roster. Collie being serviceable a few years ago doesn't mean he still is
