Scott Chandler Lets call it like it is

Hence the "LOL." Hence the very next paragraph starting with, "Nah, seriously . . . "

I was just trying to give the numbers on how much Wright has disappeared in the league.

Sure, let's call it like he is. He's a TE2 with impressive size, serviceable athleticism, and iffy hands.

That's what he was when we signed him, and that's what he's proven himself to be through 9 games. To the extent that people are disappointed in him, I think it has at least as much to do with unreasonable expectations as with his actual performance. He is what he's always been. Some guys' hands get better at age 30 when they upgrade QBs, but it doesn't seem like a reasonable assumption.

Ok slight detour here. What the hell was he doing with his touchdown celebration? I thought he was doing that Dragon ball Z fusion stance (see pic below) but looking at the pic of him at the top of the page I don't know.

I could be wrong, but I think that was the Scott Hall/NWO thing.

He isn't good enough to overlook the terrible drops he has had so far.

This board is far too spoiled by what Gronk has done. Gronk just isn't a size/speed/power freak of nature, he is also a phenomenal catcher. He just sets the bar too high.

After the Chandler drop, Gronk grabs a bad pass that was below his knees without breaking stride. Don't think even Bavaro or Gonzalez could have ever done that.

Pats fans were saying similar things about Danny Ame

Point. However, guys like this can have big games, as well. And when those big games come on a timely basis, all of a sudden it's- glad we have that guy on our team. Of course, Chandler would have big games against the NEP. Hmmmnnn....now, why do I suspect Chandler will have a big game (or two) in the playoffs? We'll see. o_O
I'm with you dude! It would be even more amazing if he can have a breakout game vs his former team on MNF next week!

Chandler's dropping passes that we'd expect high school TEs to catch.

Of course he can have a big game. I like Chandler. You can't really compare him to Amendola. Amendola was a big name and big $$ signing, which gives some valid expectations for big play ability. Which I think he has lived up to for the past year. Chandler is a #2 TE that's pretty cheap. And I think he lives up to that well. But some here seems to be expecting him to be a really good #1 TE, which he isn't. I think people set their expectations way to high, for something that he isn't payed for, and something that he has never shown that he is. People get dissapointed that the $1M TE is a $1M Te.

It might not be revisionism from you--I'm not going to go back to find your posts, I'll trust that you thought he wasn't much good--but there's definitely some revisionism from a board standpoint. There were multiple threads with multiple posters where the overall vibe was this guy was going to really add something.

Look, it's partly human nature, in two ways. One, you don't want to crow about something you weren't on target about. So people who said, "this guy's going be a beast!" or raving how the red zone offense would really improve with him, aren't going to bring that up much now. Also, as fans we want to be positive, so there's some "yeah, this is what we thought, it's good we have him though" going on.

But there has been revisionism. Hell, I hope he starts tearing it up so people can start saying how they knew he'd come through.

Man, all I can say is that I never have any interest in doing these evaluations beyond what we see of their skills. The guy just drops easy balls. No one who has seen him play in prior years was surprised at what happened in the 4th qtr yesterday.

I'd like to point out that a certain number 2 TE we had, that people loved having on the field, dropped the more balls than Chandler did.

daniel graham?:)

Think of somebody more... murderous. ;)
He dropped his share....but caught a lot as well. His catch % was pretty damn good.

Danny Graham and Ben Watson were not "pure" receivers here. Watson more than Danny I guess...

Chandler's dropping passes that we'd expect high school TEs to catch.

Which shouldn't be all that surprising because no scouting reports on him describe his ability to catch as being anywhere near outstanding. Instead there are lukewarm notes such as "he has enough agility to go high or low to grab the ball."

That being said, I think he's going to have a bigger role in the offense now because he is more of a route runner than anything else.

It may not be surprising, but it's enough to justify people being disappointed in the signing, to date. Chandler has to be better than this, because he's not a good blocker. They could have gotten more from OHOH than they've gotten from Chandler, so far.
