Idle thoughts - Is it ever going to stop.......

I was having a hear attack yesterday during and immediately after the game, but in retrospect, it was a pretty awesome game, with lots of twists and turns. I wanted to cry when Edelman went down.

The Giants psych Brady out. I thought he was panicking yesterday before Edelman went down, and that just made things worse. I agree with those who've said that the loss of first Lewis and now Edelman will have a big impact on our offense, and the cracks in our O-line that we've been able to cover up pretty good so far will start to become more prominent. Brady will not be able to get the ball out as fast and Gronk already had to stay home and block more. Fewer targets, more holding onto the ball = more sacks and more holding calls against us. I hope Amendola can continue to do what he did yesterday on the final drive & get open quick for short gains. That is the thing that Brady is going to miss Edelman the most on. Dobson HAS to finally show something. He should get out there with Brady (as should White) and train catching 4-5 yard passes over and over again.

I'm not sure how you can think Coleman looked good? BB would disagree as Melvin seemed to replace him in second half.

.

Coleman was playing with one good hand and the other all mangled up.

The guy toughed it out, but could never jamm his man properly. If the Pats were not paper thin at the position, he would have been inactive yesterday.

Coleman is a keeper.

I agree. I think Martin will get in over Dobson -he has better hands. Dobson's bobbles are problematic. Martin also makes the tough catches. I also like the kid from Cal, he looked great in pre-season - they same way Lewis did. But honestly, the offense is going to have to move to a 3-TE, running style.

What's wrong with Martin, anyway? Didn't he get hurt a few weeks ago and we haven't seen him since.

There definitely was a LB moving over into the passing lane and if TB had led Lafell it would've been picked off by him. So either Brady should have thrown it earlier or not at all, or Lafell was supposed to stop, but it wasn't a case of bad accuracy.

According to LaFell it was his mistake because he wasn't patient enough.

According to Brady it was a bad pass.

They may both be correct.

I thought Coleman was overmatched in the first half--until Melvin played in the second. Nickel corner is the weak link on the Patriots. So far, they've lost a lot more players on offense, but if you can create mismatches with the offensive players still there, you can survive--to a point. On defense, it's a bit different. If there's a weakness, other (good) teams will exploit that weakness. Sometimes only one or two losses on defense can create some real problems. Eli was picking on the third corner all day and other QBs will do the same. I don't think you can win a SB with this level of CB play (and yes, I do remember Earthwin Moreland).

Things have come a long way for Gost since BB went for it on 4th and 11 in the 2007 SB, rather than try a 50+ yard field goal late in the game. Good for him.

The more I watch Scott Chandler, the more I think of Don Hasselbeck. He was drafted in the 2nd round while we had Russ Francis, who was all-world at the time. Hasselbeck was slightly bigger, but not nearly as good an athlete, and had the same problems catching the ball as Chandler sometimes does. Frustrating to watch.

Great to see the rotation on the interior DL. Four players are all getting lots of PT, and everyone is around 20-30 plays.

I just love that they responded like that. Each one tries to take the blame. We should be so fortunate to have players like that, and a team like that.

I think Brady is sick, in the illness sort of way. He looked gray, didn't have his usual animation, like he was husbanding what energy he could muster and had a vacant 5-mile stare when he wasn't actually interacting with someone. I know that when I'm operating on a load of Dayquil I get a little tunnel-visiony. Seems like he was, too. I wonder how many played yesterday with the bug that's been going through the lockerroom.

On Blount, I agree he's getting too upright. I recall that last year he credited his success to Fears getting him to lower his pad level. Time for some refresher coaching, Ivan.

I thought Brady looked lifeless and without enthusiasm or energy. He might very well be sick.

After the Beckham touchdown, the whole offense looked confused and scared of the Giant's laundry. The three in out, especially after the first series, looked depressed.

BUT, when the game was on the line with a 1:40 to go, the Patriots became the Patriots!

I agree. Martin has made some excellent catches and Harper seems to have excellent hands and agility. But JE's ability to make the catches around the first down marker or to make hard yards after the catch will be very difficult to replace.

Then there's nothing to discuss, because that's as plain as day.

Brady says you're wrong and he was the one throwing the ball.. Had Brady thrown it properly to where LaFell was, it would have been a TD. The LB wouldn't have gotten to it and neither would McBride..

That throw was 100% on Brady. WRs don't run stop-and-go's laterally in the middle of the end zone.

LaFell on int: "Aw man I got happy, I got happy. I came off and I rushed my route a little bit. I fell in the end zone and I kind of faded at the last minute. I should've just stayed flat and took my time over there and slowed down cause the play takes awhile to develop...but I just rushed it."

...

A breakdown of the film shows LaFell drifting (a/k/a fading) after the cut, allowing the DB to undercut the pass. That doesn't tell us who was to 'blame' (it could even have been on the throw, it could have been on the route, it could have been on both the throw AND the route), but it does match up with LaFell's description of his actions.

Again, we may well never know who was to 'blame'.

--Back off on the defensive pass interference calls, refs, particularly against visiting teams. Good god, every incomplete pass over 10 yards is greeted with that big annoying rumble of "throw the flag!" Really makes the sport suck. Similarly, Amendola's return was a thing of beauty not least because there were no flags. Let 'em play the damn game already.

I was watching soccer highlights the other day and saw a play where a player grabbed his opponents arm at the elbow, pull the arm up into his face and then flopped like he had been shot.

WR's complain almost every time looking for a flag nowadays. I seen kickers flop and some QB too, to draw penalties, makes me wonder when WR are going to start faking PI to draw flags since some officials seem to be calling even the slightest infraction.

On weei, Brady referenced Martin first when talking about who would step up for Edelman. Also cited LaFell and Amendola.

Dobson's name didn't come up.

If it was Peyton, I'm sure they'd both agree on who was at fault.

I still remember the catch he made on the long pass down the right sidelines where he had to circle and reposition like an outfielder who badly misjudged a fly ball.

That was outstanding concentration and body control that I don't ever remember seeing a Pats receiver ever do before.

And one more thing. Give Logan Ryan some credit. He's having an outstanding year.

Yep, Ryans been paying very well lately. I didn't think much of him last season but he seems to really be progressing

If he and Butler continue to improve its easy to see why Belichick was willing to let Revis, Browner and Arrington walk

SG3 hates your post and wishes horrible things to happen to you ,Mitch. We are nothing but Patrioshyts and we must all die in fiery crashes. Until then, I will agree with your assessment...

Heh heh, thanks for the update Joker. sg is the angriest poster I've ever come across. That's what happens to someone who's been a jest fan since that sorry franchise was born
