Game Thoughts: They Might Be Giants, but they didn't win the game edition

I was with you up until you said Gost was the the best kicker we ever had.

I love the guy, but between the 3 SBs and the snow bowl he still has a ways to go to catch up to Vinatieri.
He is.

I hope Butler and Beckham sought each other out after the game. That was a war and fun to watch.

The drive where Chung and Butler got wrung up on back to back atrocious PI calls had the conspiracy theorist in all of us working overtime I'm sure.

The easy drop by Chandler and the incredible snap by Gronk are a microcosm of the GOAT vs the mediocre.

The offensive game plan once again vs the Giants was just too conservative. If they're going to shut down everything 5 yards in you have to take your shots. The drop by Chandler didn't help and neither did Brady throwing a couple of ducks, one of which could/should have ended the game but once they stretched the field they had success to Gronk and LaFell. Granted the offensive line wasn't going to allow shots all day but I would have liked a lot more play action with deep shots.

Melvin isn't good.

While the LB core hasn't been bad Collins makes them special.

If Edelman is gone for the year losing both him and Lewis makes me wonder if they have enough left. Those are your two most elusive players.

The Giants cannot lose enough going forward. I want nothing to do with them should the Patriots make it to the SB. Screw revenge. Coughlin and Spagnola just coach a great game against the Pats.

Non Patriots note.....Manning breaking the record for passing yards but getting yanked after 4 picks and only 5 completions is pretty sweet. His last pick of the game before was a pick too make it an even 5 and 5 in his last 10 passes. This is the end.

That David Andrews penalty in hindsight was atrocious.

It's a pull play over the right end and you can't hold your NT from the backfield?

He has been a battler all year given his humble beginnings, but that play alone will put thoughts of stork back in the coaches head ASAP.

Go easy on him, ok? His first holding foul of the year and it's game 9. Pretty impressive for a rookie.

From what I saw seemed liked he mostly stayed into to help block/chip guys and then release into the flat which at that point Brady had went to someone else.

Good point, and Brady needed that assistance today with the OL issues.

I should be elated but I find myself sad with the Edelman loss. Holding out hope he will come back strong and be a adrenaline shot for the offense. I feel ok with Amendola taking up reps and Martin filling in though. Still got a feeling 14-2-13-3 is very doable. Who knows? This team is full of surprises, maybe they shock us all and go 15-1 or the unthinkable?

Can't wait to have Collins back pronto. That goes for any of the offensive lineman.

Mayo had a few really clean plays that stood out to me today.

How lucky to have both AV followed by Ghost for the last 15+ years. We don't know what it's like to have ****ty kicker problems. Very spoiled in that department among other things.

Very happy with the way the coaches and defense responded To adversity. Tom Brady, despite the int was very good again in the 4th. Spoiled I tell ya.

I'm sorry, but it was a good call.

Is there a HD clip of this anywhere? I thought it was holding, but when seeing the replay, I was doubting the call.

My thoughts are much the same as everyone here. But here are some I don't see often

Coughlin is in BB's head a bit. It is not that BB makes horrible calls but he worries to much about what Coughlin will do instead of just doing what they should.

The defense had its ups and downs today but it was absolutely clutch when needed the most. It got back to back 3 and outs to let the offense back in it. While that goal line stand had some questionable playcalling for the Giants in the end the Pats D had to make great plays to stop them and they did.

This is the first time the Patriots have faced a top QB, a top WR and good WR depth this year... It was messy but they got better in the 2nd half and seemed to figure something out with the 3 safety look. I think that can help us moving forward cause we probably will need to beat the Bengals which are even a bit more talented offensively.

This was a tough gutsy win that was not pretty. I knew at some point this year the Patriots would be in a dog fight. It happened to be tonight. It reminded me a bit of that Ravens game in 2007. Some questionable calls and some breaks fell our way. The difference between good and bad teams is you take advantage of your chances when you get them. The Patriots overall did and that is why they won. I do believe this wins help you later in the year.

You need to keep Amendola for the next few years and this 7 game stretch will show you why. He is going to come in and do a good job hopefully until Edelman is back and healthy. He might be the most clutch Patriots there is right now. He barely drops anything and seems to always make the play when you really need it. The 4th and 10 stands out but just as big is getting that YAC to make the Gost kick a 54 and not a 60-58. At this point i say I trust him more than anyone... maybe not to make the big break away play but secure the catch and get you enough after it.

This to me was Brady's worst game of the year. He did make some good plays too cause even on his bad days he is still pretty damn good. This was a game to see "could you beat a good team when Brady is off?" And they showed they can. Championship teams can not just be dependent on their QB to do everything. This team showed it is not. They made key plays with STs and D and our skill players at times made things easy on Brady even though he had a few very good passes too.

I think once the OL gets healthy though we are low on skill guys that are proven that will help a lot. Hope it happens soon

I can See some folks having that opinion (still disagree), but wouldnt you agree that inthe middle of a 6-man mashup like that, that call is rarely made.

I saw Giants olinemen holding clear as day on the edges and they did not call anything. They rarely make the Andrews call but because we win I am glad they did. We not only beat the Giants we beat the refs and in front of our biggest hater, idiotdel. That's a trifecta win. Hate Edelman getting hurt though.

I hope Butler and Beckham sought each other out after the game. That was a war and fun to watch.

The last thing shown on the broadcast before cutting away to 60 minutes was Butler and Beckham, with their arms around each other, hugging and having a long chat. There sure seemed to be a lot of respect.

I was with you up until you said Gost was the the best kicker we ever had.

I love the guy, but between the 3 SBs and the snow bowl he still has a ways to go to catch up to Vinatieri.

That's an argument for Gost not being the most accomplished kicker in Patriots history. Indeed, on that basis I agree.

But Gost seems to have it at least a little over Vinateri in each of power and accuracy, with clutch accuracy not being an exception.

It's funny, no one remembers the kicks Vinatieri missed.

Some people do. Sort of. I think there were even 1 or 2 Super Bowl misses. Just not any postseason misses in the fourth quarter.

If Edelman is gone for the year losing both him and Lewis makes me wonder if they have enough left. Those are your two most elusive players.
.

Edelman will be back for the playoffs.

I couldn't live with any other scenario. Just the thought of it makes me feel sick and miserable.

Its the most basic requirement of a center. Its one thing getting pushed back, but being walked by on a corner run is simply unacceptable. It also wasnt against Marcel Dareus or Suh, it was against the giants third string tackle.

I am sure he will bounce back, because again, to get this far takes an awful lot of fight, but Stork returning to center looks like a higher necessity. So yes, the tackles coming back healthy will have multiple benefits.
Andrews is a bargain basement gem. He's a rookie. Given his provenance, he has performed admirably. Yes, he screwed up on a very consequential play, but let's not let one play define him.

Think the whole Coughlin crap being in Belichick's head is all bullshyt.. some teams we match up well against and some less so, if anything all of these games are like a heavyweight fight, and this case as they coached together(2 years) under Parcells they know each other's tendencies..

There is no blueprint here, take advantage of our weakened O line and hurry Brady.. it is not that complicated.

Meanwhile speaking of blueprints.. the combined w/l totals for our last three opponents up to SB 49 are now have 10 wins and 17 losses, but no one brings that up. Baltimore 2 & 7, Indy 4 & 5 and Seattle 4 & 5.. did the Pats provide a blueprint on how to beat those teams??

Meanwhile we are on to the Bills, prepare for a week of Buffoonery from the head azzclown...

Coughlin is not a great Xs and Os coach, but he is a supreme motivator. he will get his players to play their best in big games. whenever he faces NE it is always with somethng important on the line like a super bowl or undefeated season.
