Edelman: Broken Foot, Likely Back for Playoffs

Welker must be thinking wtf. He leaves NE, and the Pats win the SB. He signs with a crappy offense in STL, and one week later Edelman gets injured. Tough luck for that guy

Maybe Welker can get himself fired.

Rams do us a favor and release welker lol. The rams suck.

Hey at least it's not a knee. We can be thankful for that.

Assuming this report is correct that Jules will have surgery Monday AND there is a cautious optimism of an 8 week return on the outside, 8 weeks puts Jules activated and practicing on Wildcard weekend.

With Lewis also gone our O is going to be dampened some. Just no way around losing two of your most productive receiver options while keeping the same level of production.

Let's assume the worst and the Patriots struggle to win games due to the injuries (like tonight against the Giants).
-First important item: HFA is sweet no doubt but the single utmost critical item is earning a Bye. I want HFA but if Cincy gets it that's ok. Just get the Bye!
-Second Important item: Except Denver we would have to lose 4 times (probably 5) in the last 9 for any real likelihood we would lose the Bye. Bottom line: functionally Denver is the only team that could keep us from a Bye.
-Third important item: Denver now has two losses and it looks like PM waited a year to long to retire. Denver looks like it is in real trouble if PM is done or down for a few weeks. So if we do beat Denver (this is the important one!), we can then go 3-3 the rest of the way against Tenn, Houston, Miami, Philly, Bills, Jets and the Bye is ours. But if Denver, Jets and Bills each lose one more this season (an extreme likelihood IMHO), Patriots now only need to go 2-4 against that Non-Denver remaining schedule but still get that critical Bye.

Bottom Line: the 9-0 start along with the rest of the AFC (except Cincy) sucking it really puts us is in a VERY nice position to have a lot of room for error but still get the Bye, and to allow injuries to heal then putting a healthier team on the field in the divisional round.

The important facet to the continued success of the team offensively is the return of the three starters on the O line. With that, the Pats will have a better ability to run the ball and control the tempo of games they have remaining. Another key facet is the return of Collins. He is a difference maker on defense and defensive pressure on our opponents will limit THEIR scoring opportunities, as we've seen in many games this season. The one component to this team that gives me a sense of security is the coaching staff. They have PROVEN to be able to adapt and have constructed a roster that is versatile enough to implement their game plans.

We do not need Welker. LOL. Amendola is pretty much the best fill in to Edelman's role that we could ask for. Of course we'll need Dobson or Martin to step up as a fourth option behind Gronk, JoJO and Amendola.

Agreed. The replacement will come in house.

Dobson, Martin and a likely Harper call up.

Let's not forget we still need another running back. A Pierre Thomas or Robert Turbin would help lighten the load as well.

Welker was done 2 years ago.Lafell and Amendola will have to shoulder the load until Edelman returns. Of course, I guess Gronk is just an afterthought. What can he possibly offer to make up for some of Edelman's production?

My thing with amendola's his ability to get open. We will see if he can do the job

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that we make it two straight Gronk-healthy seasons. Some people are stepping onto the bridge after Edelman went down but Gronkowski's the guy who we really can't afford to lose out of the receiving options.

@Joe Kerr

Patriots still have Bill Belichick -head coach
Patriots still have Tom Brady- an OK QB
Patriots still have TE Gronkowski
Patriots will be returning to full strength on the O line soon..
Collins will be back next week
Yup...everything us REAL BAD and the whole season is in the shytter now because of ONE WR injury
Patriots just suck at roster building, obviously, and it's all real bad all the time
Guess it's time to round up my goo gee gaa gaa fantasy reports and my collection of hero worship NFL posters like Bust Mode
and sure handed Calvin Johnson and go looking for that team that KNOWS how to build a proper roster that can survive the DEVASTATING Edelman injury.
Either that or go sit in a corner and suck my thumb like the freakin' spoiled little brat frontrunner I've always been.

He shoots, he scores! :)

100% agreement. They have Edelman slated for a procedure tomorrow. He'll be back for the post season barring unforeseen complications.

interesting. Didn't know that's what/where the injury was. Hope he is a quick healer.

Welker would not be an option. Amendola will fill in nicely for Edelman, and here's hoping that Martin can fill in for Amendola.

Dobson had several steps on the Giants DB and was wide open on the 1st play of the last drive

I'd like to see him get more opportunities while Edelman recovers

I'd also like to see the Pats sign Pierre Thomas

The worst part of the news is thinking who might be next. We can possibly cover the loss of Edelman but we're starting to run out of options to cover any more injuries. Teams in worse shape than the patriots!

I don't see how this cannot be considered a huge blow to their SB aspirations. Only time will tell if it is ultimately insurmountable, but I look for the team to continue to fight it out. The O is diversified enough to cover up some holes. However, this is a growing list of injuries now. There comes a time when even the greatest QB and Coach can start to feel the strain of all of these losses to key players. I still believe that we have what it takes, but the road just got exponentially harder.
