Malcolm Butler

That TD was entirely on McCourty IMO. Not just because he took a bad angle, but also because his tackle attempt took Butler out of the play.
I 100% agree, also I think McCourty was going for the interception because he thought the ball was overthrown and misjudged It which took him out position for the tackle and caused him to run into Butler.

OBJ is absolutely not the best. But Butler was incredible today.

Stats say Odell Beckham had 104 yards and a touchdown. Behind the stats: Caught 4 of 12 targets. Had 3 catches for 17 yards after his 1Q TD

And the PI against Butler was totally phantom, as it was against Chung as well earlier in that same drive.

Yeah I'd probably give it to Julio. OBJ is top 5 though.

Malcolm was awesome today! Fierce battler all day long, especially against Beckham. Loved the crushing tackle on ODB for no YAC on a short pass.. The endzone breakup was a big time, clutch play!
I thought the D & ST outplayed the Offense today. Great team win!

He is pretty damn good. He has almost 2200 yards and 20 touchdowns in 21 games since he entered the NFL.

We'll disagree on who is the best. Julio is also outstanding.

I'll take OBJ.

He's insane

Besides the first drive amazing!

The mental toughness butler showed after that first big play is what separates the good from the great. There is no pff formula or stat that measures that competiviness or resilience. This guy is special.

Butler gave up a 20 yard catch. McCourty gave up 67 and the TD. A longer version of the play last year when Revis got beat by Jordy Nelson. The poor angle by DMac was the reason for the TD on that one too.

Watching him cover was beautiful. Watching him scrap and get in OBJ's face on every play was damn sexy.

Still loving his compete level. He seems to have one or two brain farts per game. If he can fix that, and learn some techniques to deal with the larger elite WRs, he can be a top CB in this league.

Evidence suggests he ups his game after a big mistake... Even if both vs. Seattle and today the mistake wasn't really his.

I love me some Malcolm Butler......this kid has got it. Even OBJ was giving him some props. He has really developed his man to man skills and will only get better as he picks up those subtle nuances that Vets know.

I'm so annoyed at these injuries taking away our players.....especially would've loved to see Darryl Roberts out starting opposite him. Imagine having a Top-10 Pass Defense made up of Undrafted Stars as your No.1 and No.2 corners :D

Oh man. I think this was Butler's best game. Yes, the early TD hurt, but I've never seen him so fired up. I LOVED that tackle for 1 yard gain, and it was awesome seeing him get in OBJ's face constantly. I'll take him in my secondary any day.

He was excellent today. Can't give him enough props. Aside from one play (which I blame DMc for the result) he was terrific against ODB.

KD I know you are only pointing out the obvious so no worries, however, to anyone else ready to jump on Butler for that play? I'll introduce you to a couple of those plays being given up by the mighty Revis last year.

No I am not comparing the two from a production standpoint. Revis is the standard bearer while Butler is trying to establish his production level. What I am saying is ALL CBs give up some plays. The best limit them to very infrequent. But the totality of a CB's full game work has to be the measure of his success/lack of success. And Butler was plainly and obviously providing heavily competitive coverage almost every play. Right now what more can we reasonably ask from him given his humble beginnings, inexperience and his minuscule cap number?

Side note for Ryan, damn. Where has this guy been hiding? Every play I watch him he is like the perfect BB disciple -- covering like an unflappable machine. It is solid technique every time I see him. And no I am not saying he is lights out. He's giving up some passes but the fact that he is providing competitive coverage at the level he is? Wow....

A bad/phantom call can happen, it can happen anytime to anyone. But the Refs made 1 critical phantom call and 1 that was all but phantom: One that kept a drive going for the Giants (it was 4th down otherwise) and one that took a TD off the board for the Patriots. Ok, not likely but two can simply happen too. But then add that 2 more critically important 'keep drives going' calls of the 'singling out for what is otherwise allowed on almost every passing play in the NFL' type. Now it is unacceptable. Now it goes from a simple bad day for the refs to the refs likely having been pressed by loud mouth Coughlin or someone else to 'keep an eye' on specific things (basically setting the stage for calls to be made -- like tubby rex on the never called FG BS 2 years ago).

This ref crew in my mind is flagged. If they ref another Patriots game this year, it should be identified on every Patriot Nation show and site that has an open fan forum. It may not do much but at least it will be out there to some degree that many of us know they clearly singled out the Patriots for game changing type refereeing.

Butler saved the game yet again. That was some play in the end-zone knocking out the pass after OBJ already caught it.

Yeah. Love it when he can back up the talk. Against OBJ. That's as good as it gets!
