BB : Gronk and Bavaro comparison.

Bavarro was the prototype for TEs getting YAC by carrying guys with him downfield. Gronk is no better at that for his era than Bavarro was for his.

The main subject was blocking. Let's defer to BB on that one.

Gronk has it over Bavarro in three ways. First, guys in the modern era are bigger, stronger, etc., and also deal with more complex playbooks. For two players of equal stature in their day, the one who's playing a few decades later can be presumed better.

Second, I think Gronk is faster even relative to his era.

Third and not least, Gronk's catching ability is worthy of comparison to a WR's.

Bavarro was good, real good in his prime. Injuries killed him. The 80's Bert Jones if you ask me.

Bavaro is not a HoF TE. Too short of a career.

However for 2-3 years he was THE most complete TE in football.

The man sacrificed his body for the team.

The Giants tried to stretch him out with Howard Cross and Zeke Mowatt giving him a break but it was already too late.

BB comparing Gronk's blocking to Bavaro's is an incredible compliment. Can't get any better.

Exactly!

I cant believe anyone finds it insulting comparing the 2.

Stupid thread title. BB often discusses football in depth on Fridays, and occasionally on other days of the week too.

Publicly, I mean. Without that qualifier I imagine he discusses football in depth almost every day of the year, and thinks about it in depth the few days he doesn't have anybody around to discuss it with.

Agreed. There is a reason why Interception is the only poster on this entire website who has more negative ratings than positive.

I just changed the title.

You guys are like little children.

Does the thread title bother so much that you'd rather complain about that instead of discussing the article?

And now you're judging people based on their negative ratings? Is this a popularity contest in high school? Who gives a ****? Talk about the damn article.

You have no idea who bovaro is, do you?

How is it even possible to have more negative ratings? It's customary to use dislikes and disagrees sparingly for truly offensive or rediculous comments and not throw them around.

It has become customary to use them for anyone who has a differing opinion.

How can it be "customary" if you are the ONLY poster amongst several thousand who holds the distinction of having more negative ratings than positive?

That's about as "customary" as being struck by lightning several times while wearing the same shirt 10 years apart.

The truth is that that is an EPIC feat. Rejoice!

What about the I CAN'T STAND IT guy? He has to have more negative ratings than positive.

True.

But we are only talking about those on the active roster. ;)

At Bavaro's peak, he was dominant. Bavaro played like Gronk plays but he couldn't overcome injuries. BB holds him in high regards because he should be. He was a great tight end and if you can't wrap your head around that, you've never seen him play or you're just a blind homer.

The original thread title included an inaccurate insult of BB. I make no apologies for my two sentence rebuttal.
