Lewis' season is over with 49 carries for 234 yards and two touchdowns plus 36 receptions for 388 yards and two scores. He was on pace for 98 runs for 468 yards and 72 catches for 776 yards, which has never been accomplished in Patriots history. Heck, only eight running backs in NFL history have ever reached all of those marks in one season.
What's next for Patriots with Dion Lewis gone?

This sucks...and can we stop with the "next man up!" bullsh#t? Next man up hasn't "worked" since 2003 or 2004 when Belichick put together a patchwork secondary that could succeed pre Polian rules. U could mug guys all over the field back then.

How did "next man up" work in 2013? How did "next man up" work in 2012? If the ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl, then "next man up" is a crock. If the ultimate goal is to win a division round game, then cool, it works.

I firmly believe injuries are the only thing that has stopped this team in the playoffs of late. Whether it be Talib getting hurt in 2012 & 2013 or Gronkowski being 25% in 2011 and out in 12 & 13. Teams can only overcome a certain amount of injuries. I fully expect the Pats to be without Sheard, Vollmer, Cannon, Tre Jackson for 3-6 weeks. Most of this is simply due to the way the pats handle their injury reporting - we regularly see guys get off the field on their power & next thing u know they're out for 4-6 weeks.

The Pats offense was pretty close to unstoppable with a healthy Dion Lewis. The offense has looked very pedestrian without Lewis. 13 points without him yesterday vs a pretty average Washington D, and vs the NYJ without Lewis the offense sucked until the last two drives.

I'm very worried about the loss of Lewis. Coupled with an offensive line in tatters, it could derail the season. By derail i mean no super bowl. I am praying for good news on Vollmer, but please tell me the last time the Pats got any "good" injury news. Again, I'm betting Vollmer's out an extended period and DEFINITELY won't be back for Sunday...

Whoa, off the ledge man. The main reason we were less dynamic was because we kept Gronk in to block so much against Washington. Once the O line starts getting healthier, the offense will be back to it's usually prolific self. We won the Superbowl with basically the same offense, minus one player. We will make up for the Vereen loss with either White or someone else.

rice was also hurt.
belichick was talking about rice on WEEI comparing him to lewis...glowing praise...

still should stay away from him though

Well at least he's learning from it. Can't say much for that pos hardy.

I really dont think Kraft will allow Ray Rice on this team.

I don't really think Kraft would sell Brady - the organization or Patriots fans out...you kidding me? That said I would welcome Rice on this Team.

I love Lewis, but they're going to sink or swim with Bolden or White. Cadet remains a possibility if he's healthy. It's too bad the 49ers just signed Pierre Thomas, as he would have been a solid candidate to slide into the role.

Dam I wanted Pierre Thomas in FA.:(

They hurt my boy, sons of *****es.

Remember when Blount walked off the field early last year on Monday Night Football, got cut & picked up by the Pats?

Well, there's a former Patriot RB on the Chargers playing on MNF tonight. Just saying.

Huh, Bill talked up Rice huh? Interesting...

Hmmm pretty close to what we had light years ahead of what we now have.

Big difference being that Woodhead currently leads the NFL in YAC by a mile and might be the most important weapon on that offense. Can't imagine there's any conceivable scenario that he's not on the Chargers at the end of the season.

Kinda not sure what to say here....

Personally, I think Rice is washed up.

But if BB is sending up smoke signals and thinks he can help the team....

Especially in an offense on pace to annihilate records for pass attempts, that just lost its #1 WR. Woodhead might end the season with 100 catches.

At this point, I'd be fine with the Pats signing Rice if they see enough in workouts to think he's not washed up. It's been almost 2 years, he seems genuinely remorseful, and even if he's not I got over the fairy tale notion that I'm rooting for 53 good people years ago. We unwittingly rooted for a serial killer for a few years, if anything's going to knock that notion right out of you, that's it.

If we made a list of the players who are still in the NFL after committing equally as bad or worse acts than Rice, it would be very, very, very long. Only difference is Rice was caught on video. The biggest downside to signing Rice at this point is the PC hysteria machine kicking into overdrive and smearing the hell out of the Pats, which is what they've been doing for the past 9 months anyway so even that would be nothing new.

I doubt Rice is in any kind of football shape anyway.
