UPDATE: Dion Lewis has been IR'd with torn ACL, and will be out for the season

I agree. It seems to me that the pass-catching back needs to have a good handle on the offense, and at least Cadet had some exposure to it from his time here. It would be harder to integrate a random dude on the fly after the bye week has gone by.

He wasn't healthy either. I read a report that he is now.

I certainly experience to to see him brought in for a tryout.

He is a great player, but given his size and style he has a little more risk to injuries. What's gonna hurt is the screen game. Dion was perfect for long screens and getting the necessary 1st down yardage. Otherwise well adequately cover in all the other areas IMO.

Is Cadet still unattached? If so I'd expect White to take Lewis's spot with Cadet signed to take White's spot as back up. I also think Blount will feature more and White won't get as many snaps as Dion did.

Not to be facetious, but didn't they plug in Woodhead right away?

Ouch, that sucks big time. Looks like it's up to James White to make some plays, and if the Pats want to sign Dri Archer and give him White's old gameday inactive spot while he learns the offense, I certainly wouldn't complain.
As a fan of another team who's had their starting RB IR'd, this totally sucks. Lewis was incredibly fun to watch...plus you love to see guys like Lewis get their opportunity and make the most of it.

My wife is a UW alum, so we've seen a bunch of James White. It seemed like the Pats were very high on him initially, maybe this is his time to shine? He doesn't have any elite skills for sure, but he is sneaky good in several phases and can be used in the passing game. Being that it's the Pats, I'm guessing whoever they plug in will be very productive since your coaching staff is terrific at scheming to a player's strengths.

Now, regarding Dri Archer....Look anything is possible in this league, and as stated above your staff is about as good as it gets at designing schemes to a player's strengths. But here's the thing with Archer -- while he has very good straight-line speed (although frankly, not eye-popping game speed TBH) and decent quickness, IMO these qualities are more than offset by seemingly enormous deficiencies in *balance* and functional strength. He simply cannot stay on his feet; the slightest brush or nudge, when he's at velocity with his (VERY slight) frame, takes him down. Furthermore if you bring him into the game it has to be with the understanding that you can NOT use him in pass protection as that may get your QB killed.

I always root for ex-Steelers to have successful careers elsewhere and certainly hope the same for Dri. If any team can make him a successful reclamation project, it's the Pats. But I'd be surprised if your FO picked him up, and would be pretty shocked if he found significant success -- even with a coaching staff as good as yours.

As much as I love football, I hate football. I just wish injuries weren't such a huge part of the sport. Id love to see the best of the best face off against each other with all of the teams best players healthy. Big big blow. Super bowl hopes still very much alive as long as brady and gronk are healthy tho. Just gotta operate differently going forward. :(

It sucks to be this injury prone:( i don't know if i can take another one. Some of our rivals have stayed healthy. Ticks me off!!
One would hope that JE had taught people the silliness of 'injury prone'. ACLs, and broken legs (his other major injury) aren't the result of being 'injury prone'.

Unbelievable.

I think people were pretty shocked he learned the role so quick. Could be wrong but, I think that was a rare exception.

And yet, he had 52 regular season catches last year. Faulk only exceeded that once, with 58.

Not seeing the significance. Faulk may have only surpassed it once, but he was 40+ four other times and 37 another year. Danny Woodhead had 34 and 40 in his two healthy seasons, the lower of which he only played in 14 games. You are talking about less than a catch per game.

Gronk and Edelman alone have produced an elite offense. Once Gronk returned in 2013, the offense was a juggernaut despite Thompkins/Dobson/Hooman/Bolden/Mulligan around them.

It is frustrating that Welker/Gronk/Prisoner/Lloyd & Gronk/Edelman/Lewis/Lafell barely got to play together in both seasons but the show must go on.

He's no dummy.

Let's face it, the guy has a VERY injury riddled career.

Yup, I am going to get hate for this, but he has yet to show that he is anything but a flash in the pan. We got to see him really shine in 3-5 games. He looked great but I don't know what he will be going forward.

Lets not get ****oo here. Vereen was not in Faulks league. Lewis looked like he was going to have an incredible year (rivaling several Faulks best years - key SEVERAL) but unfortunately we need to wait for next year. And I hope DL is back and the same player.

Faulk was a special player and an incredible blocker and ST guy. You very rarely see a player with his skill set, and leadership, and versatility who can do it at a pace of AVG 15 games a year for 13 years straight. Incredibly dependable for what he did at RB and ST.

Thank you very insightful if your 3d Down RB cannot Block he's pretty much useless scratch Archer off the list.

Bill disagrees with you. :)
