It seems to me that the pass-catching back needs to have a good handle on the offense, and at least Cadet had some exposure to it from his time here. It would be harder to integrate a random dude on the fly after the bye week has gone by.
Is Cadet still unattached? If so I'd expect White to take Lewis's spot with Cadet signed to take White's spot as back up. I also think Blount will feature more and White won't get as many snaps as Dion did.

As a fan of another team who's had their starting RB IR'd, this totally sucks. Lewis was incredibly fun to watch...plus you love to see guys like Lewis get their opportunity and make the most of it.Ouch, that sucks big time. Looks like it's up to James White to make some plays, and if the Pats want to sign Dri Archer and give him White's old gameday inactive spot while he learns the offense, I certainly wouldn't complain.
One would hope that JE had taught people the silliness of 'injury prone'. ACLs, and broken legs (his other major injury) aren't the result of being 'injury prone'.It sucks to be this injury prone i don't know if i can take another one. Some of our rivals have stayed healthy. Ticks me off!!
I think people were pretty shocked he learned the role so quick. Could be wrong but, I think that was a rare exception. Not to be facetious, but didn't they plug in Woodhead right away?
And yet, he had 52 regular season catches last year. Faulk only exceeded that once, with 58.
He's no dummy.
Let's face it, the guy has a VERY injury riddled career.

My wife is a UW alum, so we've seen a bunch of James White. It seemed like the Pats were very high on him initially, maybe this is his time to shine? He doesn't have any elite skills for sure, but he is sneaky good in several phases and can be used in the passing game. Being that it's the Pats, I'm guessing whoever they plug in will be very productive since your coaching staff is terrific at scheming to a player's strengths.
Now, regarding Dri Archer....Look anything is possible in this league, and as stated above your staff is about as good as it gets at designing schemes to a player's strengths. But here's the thing with Archer -- while he has very good straight-line speed (although frankly, not eye-popping game speed TBH) and decent quickness, IMO these qualities are more than offset by seemingly enormous deficiencies in *balance* and functional strength. He simply cannot stay on his feet; the slightest brush or nudge, when he's at velocity with his (VERY slight) frame, takes him down. Furthermore if you bring him into the game it has to be with the understanding that you can NOT use him in pass protection as that may get your QB killed.
I always root for ex-Steelers to have successful careers elsewhere and certainly hope the same for Dri. If any team can make him a successful reclamation project, it's the Pats. But I'd be surprised if your FO picked him up, and would be pretty shocked if he found significant success -- even with a coaching staff as good as yours.
Yup, I am going to get hate for this, but he has yet to show that he is anything but a flash in the pan. We got to see him really shine in 3-5 games. He looked great but I don't know what he will be going forward.
I think his knee was fine until Matty Patricia started crying and violently hugging him on the sidelines.........
