Schefter on Lewis: No swelling yet (good) but ACL loose (bad)

Having had 4 ACL tears, and sprains and partial tears on top of that, they medical usually is enough to determine if the joint is torn. The MRI is just to confirm what the previous testing determined. Sometimes there is so much swelling, the MRI cannot determine the extent of the damage, and have to wait.

On occasion, the Pre-testing is not clear because the looseness of the joint isn't so far out of range. The fact that it isn't swollen yet is a good sign for sure, but doesn't mean it's definitely good news either.

I am cautiously optimistic, but it could go both ways, as I have experienced all different situations myself.
But...you're all good now? Any chance you can pass block and split out wide occasionally?

We didn't have Lewis against the best defense we have faced all year ... and we still managed to put up 30 points. Great player, fun to watch, but by no means indispensable.

Unfortunately, I think it's picking the lesser of two evils. Neither White nor Cadet has looked even serviceable to this point.

The difference of course, is that one is on the team and the other had very limited experience in this system. For that reasoning alone, we'll have to hope that White and maybe even Bolden are able to step up a bit.

I don't think you can make that statement considering neither of them has been involved with the first team offense in real game action. When White played the game Lewis was out the role was not really a big part of the game plan.

BB actually gave a really good rebuttal to the public perception of these third down backs who don't play and how people just assume they aren't good - he cited public opinion of Vereen when he was behind Woodhead and now White behind Vereen and then Lewis - but that they don't see what coaches seen and then finally when the guy gets a chance he ends up doing well.

So I'm not too worried. The Patriots always seem to have capable third down backs. I don't think it's luck or coincidence.

Don't kill me here but at first I thought it was a bad ankle injury. When I heard it was a knee I was kind of relieved, because it didn't seem like too bad of a tweak. Looked like it was more in "sprain" territory.

I had a good feeling we were gonna get f*cked somehow by the injury bug to a key offensive skill player this year too.

He had a broken bone and what appears to be a low to medium grade knee injury.

I guess you're feeling regret for cutting Gronk, who had worse, but similar, injuries.

Broken bones and knee injuries are part of the game. Having one of each in your career does not indicate you can't stay on the field.

But he doesn't seem to be able to stay on the field.

No I don't regret drafting Gronk (I think you meant that because he hasn't been cut to my knowledge), nor do I regret taking a chance with Lewis. Obviously both are/were worth the risk. But if they get injured we can't complain about bad luck. This team has had great fortune reaching for talent (Easley, Hernandez, Amendola) with players who are risks. But when you swim with sharks sometimes you get bit. The injury to Solder was bad luck, but Lewis was drafted 5 years ago and with his amazing talent has less than 100 carries and 500 yards mostly because of injuries.

You are really arguing this point.

White is a solid receiver he just sucks as a runner, which pretty much means he can provide what Vereen did last year. I'm not sure how we can say anything about Cadet seeing as he hasn't taken a single snap as a Patriot. Considering that NE kept him around for weeks despite being injured and behind Lewis, he's my guess as to who gets picked up if Dion goes on IR.

No he isn't. You'd need to demonstrate that broken bones make someone more likely to have a knee injury for your point to have any merit. Simply saying, "he was hurt before" isn't enough to base your assertion upon.

Sigh.

Season Over.

Let's pack up, everyone. See you all in August.

Bruschi 3:16, is that you? :)

The funniest part about that post is the defeat, it's the idea that NE was somehow afraid to move a 5th rounder because they didn't have their first.

Patterns have merit. I'm not saying the broken bone medically has anything to do with the knee injury. Maybe what we like most about him, that elusiveness, puts his body at risk more than other players. Maybe his bones and ligaments are more brittle. When Gronk tore his knee he talked about protecting his body more after the catch. He understood that injuries could happen for a reason.

It's not just about a broken bone having nothing to do with a knee. It's a fact that in 5 years he's been on the field very little with tremendous talent. Maybe he needs to eat or stretch differently. Maybe he needs more time with the weights. I don't have to prove anything. The fact that he has not been able to stay on the field for this long a period should speak enough.

Call LoMo! lol

Seriously, I wish they'd have kept Ridley. He would be getting healthy about now.

Patterns have merit.

No, they don't. Attributing false causation to apparent patterns is one of the biggest problems with the human mind.

The fact that he has not been able to stay on the field for this long a period should speak enough.

Once again, no it doesn't. I can only assume you have little understanding of how Lewis' career has gone to date. How many injuries had Dion suffered prior to Sunday?

Seriously, I wish they'd have kept Ridley. He would be getting healthy about now.

Ridley had no reason to want to stay.

Gronk missed a year of college, broke his arm, had it infected, had a high ankle sprain and blew out his knee.

"But he doesn't seem to be able to stay on the field."

Helooooooooo, anybody in there?

Actually, small sample size distorts the relevance of patterns.

He's 5'7" and has not at all shown tremendous talent in the NFL. If you really follow football you'd realize there are tons of undersized running backs who look like hot shots in college who fail, or don't even have a chance in the NFL.

Does Dri Archer have an injury history? I don't even know. He was drafted in the 3rd round, not te 5th though. He's lighter than Lewis, but much faster.

Yet he just got cut. Maybe everything you think is wrong?
