MIT Professor John Leonard at Michael McCann's framegate class on PSI

Question for Goodell: "It seems unlikely that an MIT Professor would risk his reputation in the scientific community by getting simple equations wrong; He believes the Patriots balls were within the expected range. He also believes Exponent used the wrong equations. Have you asked any other independent, competent scientist to confirm Exponents findings as both the particular findings and the firm's reputation have been questioned by multiple sources"
#integrity
It shouldn't take an MIT professor to explain this (other than credibility, I guess). This is high school science stuff.

That lost 1st rounder gets me angry. And I still don't know why it's gone.
Well the team, Belichick and above, were cleared. The 1st round pick, I believe, was for not consenting to McNally and John J being interviewed for a 7th time. In other words, "just cuz". Unfortunately Kraft has no battle to fight like TB12 did with his union backing him up. Goodell could take all our picks just for being too good if he wanted.

At a time when the evidence is insurmountably in favor of the Patriots, Goodell continues to push for the persecution of one of its all time greats. Wouldn't an apology, and a "we were wrong" make for a better story line. Your **** stinks Goodell, we've had enough of the stench.

This makes it very complicated, but the fact is the Wells Report could not withstand any kind of independent scrutiny.

They didn't record the pre-game measurements.
They didn't record the temperature on the field or in the locker room.
They didn't record the time of the measurements.

The data is garbage.

Even with that, with their manipulation of data all they could come up with was a claim that .4 PSI was let out of footballs, well within the standard of error.

The fact that this MIT professor had to do this shows Brady was guilty until proven innocent.

This also shows the commissioner is corrupt. The Patriots will lose their draft choices and other owners my cheer that. But, they also know Goodell is corrupt. Mark my words he will be forced out one day.

With millions on the line you'd think someone would have, oh I don't ****ing know, recorded the tests with their cellphone or something so we wouldn't have this BS where the Wells plays fast and loose with what the ref remembered.

The most infuriating part of this is none of this can be tried outside of public opinion, none of it is admissable in court. The draft picks are gone and if it weren't for Goodell overreaching even more than he already had in the Brady suspension it would all be over.

Anyway, here's pdf of some of Leonard's slides:

Sort of kind of.

The league* has decided to appeal right?

It's tried in public opinion every time he pulls another axeclown move like that. Every time he says "this isn't about the unfair punishment for a crime that never happened, it's about a cell phone" we go back to whether it happened. It's the inflatable elephant in the room.

Big picture? Nobody's talking about CTE or Adrian Peterson beating the living **** out of a small child or Ray Rice clocking his fiancé anymore. Ta daaaaaa. He cleaned up the league!

And the next fight over whether Brady was a good little boy while being used as a scapegoat for Goodell's reign of error, all the really dirty laundry just becomes a bit more distant memory.

I have read a lot about the science but haven’t noticed the answer to a question I’ve had related to the time factor:

How long does it take a football to lose 1 PSI of air pressure when it is moved from 70 to 40 degrees?

Then how long does it take for it to regain 1 PSI when it goes from 40 back to 70?

Given that the Colts footballs gained about 0.5 PSI when they equilibrated to a higher temperature at halftime, I wouldn’t expected that gain in air pressure to take too long, ~5-10 minutes. But does the initial pressure loss happen at the same rate? The Ideal Gas Law equation has no time component.

I realize this doesn’t account for the actual game conditions; rain, balls being in play vs on the sideline, the unknown pressure of the Colts footballs to begin with, the stupid different gauges, etc. I’m more curious from a theoretical point of view. It was probably addressed in the UNH class and other places. Exponent tried to address it in the Wells Report appendix but I don’t believe anything they say.
Who gives a f### anymore? This is nice, scientific empirical information. But, it's nothing really new, just a reaffirmation of what other scientific analyses have told us already. The problem is that the mouth-breathing truthers who believe Brady CHEATED!!! are too dumb to be convinced by science and/or too blinded by hatred and jealousy to listen to reason. Understand: these are largely midwestern and southern hillbillies whose parents are likely brothers and sisters. Trying to convince them is a fool's errand.

Concussion premieres on Christmas Day. The trailer I saw doesn't look to favorable for the league, but we'll see.

Yup... that 1st rounder is going to sting something fierce.. thats a McCourty, Gronk, Wilfork, Hightower, Jones, Easley, Solder, Vollmer, etc etc etc...

They've been striking gold in the 1st round just about every single year and you get at least 5 years out of that high level player at a hugely discounted rate. I'm still so angry that its gone, for literally no reason

So they would hang an innocent to make a point.
Behold the crack in the shield.
Ass_Shield_200_pixels_1.jpg

Can the Patriots hold a ceremony and hang that pennant?

So annoying.

The league already screened it and deleted that which made them look even worse.

I have more respect for people who let their dog sh.t on my lawn than I do the NFL league office.

Yeah, I've heard. It just seemed like from the trailer that league wasn't getting off scot-free, but the way things have been going the primary villain will be a Patriots employee.

And this becomes more obvious to people outside of New England every day. Things like this help. You have an MIT Prof saying 100% innocent while Brady and Gostkowski are playing lights out.

That's why I keep putting that Your Team Cheats - The Definitive Guide to NFL Cheating link out there. FYI: I posted it on Twitter and a few people liked it right away. Good! Let them gather an objective perspective; see that those who are complaining are, in fact, the worst offenders. ;)

If Kraft had any balls he would fund a commercial about this at the start of a Patriots prime-time game. I understand he may not be able to sue but he can fund this and have millions see it

I hear you. I'm still interested for my own edification. I'm also holding out hope that somehow the halftime measurements of the footballs this winter are released and it's shown that they all lose pressure naturally.

I'm not holding out hope but I think if the media puts pressure on the NFL to release the data that there is a small chance it could happen. I think that's the only way we get our draft picks back. It would also be hilarious to see the national reaction, hopefully at the same time Brady is holding #5 on a podium.

The 1st round pick, I believe, was for not consenting to McNally and John J being interviewed for a 7th time.

I have yet to hear any rational legal explanation for the Patriots not allowing additional interviews. None of the explanations the Patriots gave in press releases made any sense.

The Patriots claimed that Wells interviewed the equipment managers enough, and that it would be inconvenient to the equipment managers to be re-interviewed. But legally, neither reason makes any sense. The Patriots lawyers are supposed to be representing the Patriots as a corporate legal entity. The convenience of particular Patriots employees is not something the lawyers should - or even ethically can - consider. The Patriots lawyers must only consider one client: the Patriots corporation. That corporation is a legal entity distinct from any employee. So they have no reason to be concerned about some equipment manager's wasted time.

I have yet to hear any explanation for why the Patriots attorneys felt that allowing more interviews would have hurt the corporate entity called the Patriots.

And the argument that the interview is unnecessary is likewise absurd. All the interviews were unnecessary. As soon as the facts about the gas law and the lack of accurate records became clear, the investigation should have ended. The Patriots knew at that point the investigation was just a way for Well's firm to increase billings (and help a client), and for the NFL to save face. So arguing mid-process that the whole thing is a sham doesn't make sense: yes, it's a sham, but that is no reason not to play along.

And, knowing that Wells makes money from billing, why would they antagonize him by denying him more billing? Figuring Wells has four attorneys there plus likely paralegals, and the interview would have to be notated and analyzed, that decision likely cost Wells firm $50K in billings, maybe more if more interviews would be needed.
