In this scenario you don't need to spend a draft pick on another young and inexperienced DB. This secondary needs experience and not more youth.

I'm not sure where you are getting that this secondary will be "young and inexperienced" next season.

Next year will be Butler's 3rd season....Ryan's 4th season.....Coleman's 2nd season....Melvin's 4th season.

Is it very experienced...not really, but it certainly isn't "inexperienced".

Plus the secondary includes the safeties as well....McCourty's 7th season....Chung's 8th season......Harmon's 4th season.....Richard's 2nd season......King's 2nd season. If Ebner or Wilson come back, that will be their 5th season.

The lone "rookie" next year will be Roberts who will be way ahead of most rookies by way of his "red shirt" year in the Patriot's system.

I certainly see room for a rookie DB next year and since BB has drafted a DB in every draft since like....forever, I think it's safe to say we'll see at least one drafted for 2016 as well.

It will be only Butler's second season as an every down player and Coleman is hardly playing as an experienced vet. I'll give you Ryan but I'm not sure he's the vet you want to rely upon. And I noticed you didn't mention Roberts, someone who doesn't really help your narrative.

Fair enough on the safeties, I should have said 'cornerbacks' rather than 'secondary'. I meant the cornerbacks.

I added on to my post about Roberts.

I have no problem bringing in a vet but I also have no problem bringing in a rookie either. I think we can add both a rookie and a vet and given that BB almost always drafts a DB, you can be pretty certain that you'll see one in 2016 as well.

I'm afraid I don't understand the obsession with marcus cooper. The guy isn't very good but people here keep wanting to get him, pretty much the definition of jag

I'm not sure including him as one choice amongst a number of choices constitutes "obsession". It's simple, the Patriots have shown a previous interest - it would be negligent to not include him.

That's fine, I just don't want to be locked into relying on the draft to get a big time contributor at the position, something that will be hard to do with no pick before the end of the second round.

There is nickel, big nickel and humungus nickel.

Ole Malcolm Brown is part of that package.
Maybe we can bring back Wilfork next summer and invent the hippo nickel. They shrink the backfield simply by occupying space.

Yep. I double dare WRs to set picks.

I assume Carolina will tag Norman if they cannot come to terms, otherwise I think he would be a great player for us. I would consider either Janoris Jenkins or Trumaine Johnson. Marcus Cooper is an UFA according to spotrac.com. I would not give a long term deal to MC or PA.

I thought he would be an ERFA next year as well but I have seen several Baltimore related websites saying that he was a ERFA this year.

So I went through the 2014 gamebooks. Melvin was on the 53-man roster but inactive for two games with the Buccaneers before reaching an injury settlement with them. He then played in 5 games with the Ravens at the end of season. So 2014 is an accrued season for him.

Melvin will indeed become a RFA after this year.

They should just draft the best available CB in the 1st... nevermind.

Trade up in the second round and draft Kendall Fuller whose injury will likely push him out of the first.
Solder and Jimmy G for Joe Thomas and their 2nd

im more commenting on the fact that he has frequently come up as a target. The Pats have shown interest in a lot of different guys and if they wanted him they could have gotten him considering he isnt even playing for KC
