OT: The Broncos D really capitalized on Aaron Rodgers biggest weakness...

I can't wait for this game. Brady usually destroys Wade Phillips Ds

forget the nfc, the super bowl winner will be NE or denver.

Swamp the QB with pressure while having excellent coverage on all the receivers. It works against QBs besides Brady and Manning.

Who knew such shocking information? Let's sell this secret blueprint to every football team in the country!

Shhhhh....

Introspective Peyton Manning: 'I knew this was not going to be an easy transition'

"The New England Patriots have played some great games this season, and so have the Cincinnati Bengals and others, but what the Broncos did on Sunday night was the best performance in the NFL this season. They had 500 yards on offense. They allowed 140 on offense, including 50 net passing yards to a team with two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. That's unbelievable. The Packers were 6-0 coming in, everyone's NFC favorite, and the Broncos destroyed them."

Welp...THERE it is....Roger's newest mouthpiece, Yahoo, has just told all of us to forget it, may as well not even play the rest of the season. Can't wait for ScumbagSPN to double down on this "breaking" story later on today.
Stop it. He's right. Peyton is back, Broncos are good. Pats have to beat Denver in Mile High to host the Broncos in the playoffs. They won a big game in a big way.

They televise pretty much all Denver games in Ohio, and (unfortunately) this was by far the best Peyton has looked this season.

He is bound to have a great game here or there, but as the season ends and weather gets bad, Mannings tired arm will show just like it has for the last 2 seasons.

Do you recall Manning trying to throw against the wind in Foxboro last year? Brady had no problem at all, but Manning looked inept.

I agree. The way he's been struggling i find it hard to believe that now his arm is back suddenly. The weather will get only colder and there are no rest weeks left.

I think this game just pushed Brady way ahead in the MVP race.

I know Brady can be the first to pull it off, but the reason I dislike is , a part of me doesnt want him to win the MVP. That ugly statistic where no player has ever won the MVP and the Super Bowl in the same year....

Manning had two weeks to rest his noodle arm.

Thomas and Sanders do concern me.

Their defense is fast but can be attacked.

See you at the end of the month, Horsehead.

Kurt Warner did it back in '99.

Collapse the pocket, contain the QB, don't let Rodgers scramble. Cause Rodgers will often look directly at the pass rush, at the expense of looking downfield.

Denver was collapsing the pocket on Rodgers but weren't getting too greedy with the pass rush; which almost always opens up lanes for Rodgers to scramble, or find a clean throwing lane, when he's pressured. For all the talk about Rodgers footwork under pressure, no one really mentions his constant tendency to look directly at the rush as opposed to keeping his eyes downfield in these situations. Granted, it's hardly ever a negative for Rodgers. But Denver was really getting the best of Rodgers on this. The coverage was there, but Rodgers wasn't even challenging it. And Rodgers will challenge just about everything when he a throwing lane or is mobile. I've heard Collinsworth try and claim that Rodgers only had time to look to his first read before the rush got there. Hmm. Well, when you see the QB setting, and re-setting his stance -- sometimes 3x or 4xs over in one play -- he's getting enough time to look; he's just getting thrown off his game because he's looking into the rush to find a clean lane and he doesn't have room to take off. Denver wasn't letting him get what he wants.

Granted, if this is a "blueprint" for stopping Rodgers (and I hate that term) well, good luck trying trying to pull it off, cause constantly collapsing the pocket is no joke. Denver's D is really tough.

BTW - This reminded me of last year's playoff game Rodgers had vs Seattle. Rodgers couldn't run well due to injury. He was constantly looking at Seattle's pass rush, trying to scramble and find an open throwing lane. He just couldn't do it. He would look at the pressure far too often, as opposed to keeping his eyes downfield. He had a weak game. Granted, it was against Seattle's D.

Excellent analysis- I didn't notice this. I had mentioned this in the game thread but do you think playcalling is also a big part of the issues that they had last night? I didn't notice a single pick play being run which would have created separation from Denver's aggressive man coverage. I kept seeing them try to run short routes out of bunched trips that went nowhere.

Wade Philips defense makes all pass rushers into superstars and his the defense always seems to be ranked near the top. It normally last about two or three seasons until BB provides a blue print to beat it.

sure they contained him, but when you can man up those wrs, makes it very difficult. No one was open...hopefully gronk and lewis change that

I want both. What can I say? I'm greedy. Seriously, after Aaron Rodger's performance and Dalton's 2 interceptions, Brady should have a big lead at this point. Obviously, you don't like the award, but I hope he wins especially before the NFL's appeal hearing. What a great way to make Fraudger look like an idiot.

I look forward to the appeal judges asking the rhetorical question, " So now with carefully monitored footballs, he just won league MVP?" Priceless.

I favor the Pats in every game this year, but earlier I picked the divisional games as our toughest all year. Now I respect the Broncs enough to put @Denver as the toughest game on our schedule.

No one was open...

Eh....I dunno. The coverage was good, but one of the things you always see with mediocre QBs are shots of the field indicating "no one was open." But good (or great, as Rodgers is supposed to be) make throws into ridiculously small windows. You gotta force the issue sometimes.

As others have noted, it sometimes seems that Rodgers is overly concerned about throwing picks. In this league, there is no excuse for throwing for 77 yards. I'm sorry, but if Brady was QBing the Packers last night that would have been a very different game. The separation between the two of them has never been so clear.

You know, sometimes teams just lay a collective egg. Green Bay absolutely sucked last night, and against a very good, very prepared football team.

The Denver D line ate up the Packers' OL - even on running plays. Denver was flying all over the field, and the Packers had nothing to slow them down. They were confused, blowing timeouts and looking around like they were in a fog.

Denver is a tough place to play anytime, but last night was just an awful performance by the Packers.

Before anyone crowns Denver, go back and watch the Minnesota game at Mile High. Sometimes teams play 100% of their capability, sometimes 60%. I'd say Denver was at 100% last night and GB at 60%.

Also, Rodgers really missed some big plays and seemed very reluctant to throw into even semi-tight coverage. Maybe all the Denver D big plays psyched him or the coaches out, or something. McCarthy is very lucky to have a talent like Rodgers, though, because without him, that team is putrid.

Manning looked great, but keep in mind that Denver LOST their CB1 and CB2 early in the game, and you've got Demarious Thomas and Manny Sanders out there in mismatches - and what does that do to the next level, where Owen Daniels ran wild?

Don't get me wrong, Denver is formidable. My personal power rankings right now:

New England
Denver
.
.
.
Cincinnati
Carolina

And really, after last night, and after watching Cincy pull a rabbit out of their hat as Ben missed a couple of easy throws that would have won the game, I think those top two are WAYYYYY up there on the rest of the not-very-good pack.
