Rumor: Browns having fire sale (merged)

Mingo would only be a $2.6m hit next season if they picked up his roster bonus. They could decline it and he would be a FA. Which you would figure BB would jump at the chance to have him at $2.6m especially with Mayo probably being cut which would save $7m
And if they decline and he goes FA they get a comp pick right?

No. Haden's salary for this year is $8.3M. Pro-rated that means the Pats would need 4.4M in cap space. The Pats only have 3.2M. So the Pats would need to re-structure quite a bit to ensure they would still have money for future moves this season..Then there is the $14M is guaranteed salary over the next 2 years.

Not that I think there is a chance of this happening, but I really don't think this is what prevents this. I think the Pats can get that space if they needed to. I just don't think the Browns will trade him and I don't think the Pats would give up what the Browns would want for him.

I've always had a thing for Mingo. The same for Sheard. Having both on the same team would be nice. Haven't kept up with Barkevious though. I wonder if he's added weight/strength.

Would love any of these guys. Cap is not a good fit, but this is one of the more talented teams outside of offensive skill positions.

Well trading for Thomas would move Vollmer back to RT which would improve both positions so I don't think I entirely agree with you about the lack of a marked improvement. I don't think the maths work on a Thomas trade but he'd be a significant upgrade on Vollmer and/or Cannon.

He'd be a significant upgrade over any offensive lineman the Patriots have had since Bruce Armstrong.

I don't see it happening because of the money, but Joe Thomas is an all-timer.

First of all, there are only 3 full years remaining on the contract. NONE of which is guaranteed. The total amount for the 3 years is $25.9M in salary, $3M in roster bonuses and $600K in workout bonuses. Yes, they'd have to find a way to fit him under the cap this year, possibly by converting some of the remaining $4.66 salary to signing bonus. 3.5 years of Joe Thomas could seriously elongate Brady's career.

OK, you may have changed my mind on this, but I still don't see how he fits under the cap this year unless the Patriots also send a player back to the Browns.

This. He can't restructure until he's actually here, and he can't come here unless they can fit him under the cap. I don't think trading Mayo in return would get it done.

If BB could find a way to fit Haden (first choice), or Thomas (2nd choice), under the cap, and the cost were not prohibitive, he'd at least seriously consider those moves, I'd think.

I don't think Haden is much of an improvement on what we have already. He's had a bad year, he's expensive and has just been taken out of the current game with a concussion.

Haden's current season is more than anything an example of good timing for buying low. Contract and money aside, it's probably the most opportune time there will be to acquire his services relative to cost.

If the Browns do dismantle their team trading key building blocks, the fans should revolt.

Haden is better than Ryan and Butler.

The question of him play being worth the price tag is valid

I'm not convinced thats true this year. Did you see the TD he gave up today? Shocking. And he's been doing that consistently this season.

Something is up with him this year. IMO their coach threw him under the bus, the owner is a complete jerk and the team is a disaster.

He's was a top 5 CB for the last 3 years. An off year on a train wreck of a team does not change my opinion of him.

Ryan is being wildly overrated around here.

Definitely. "Ryan has improved" is a correct statement, only because he was the worst CB in the league last year.

Ryan is a serviceable CB in zone coverage with pretty decent ball instincts and a decent tackler.

That's it.
