Dion Lewis anyone?

He was so good at Pitt too. I'd have to think that he's just a better schematic fit for what the Patriots do, as far as pass-catching RB's. We use our RB's in the passing game more than most teams and that's what Lewis specializes in.

I really don't get it. I'm not saying that Dion Lewis is Barry Sanders, but I'll say this: I have not seen anyone embarrass defenders with these kind of jukes since Barry Sanders. This guy is better than Kevin Faulk in his prime, in terms of just pure skill and talent. He has off the charts quickness and elusiveness. There really isn't much to analyze here; you watch the game, and if someone had told you this guy was the #3 overall pick in last year's draft, you don't even think twice about it. Is there really any sane argument that the scheme makes him good? Can't imagine he wouldn't thrive anywhere.

Even if I am exaggerating, and he's only half the player I'm hyping him up to be, HOW THE HECK WAS THIS GUY OVERLOOKED BY SO MANY TEAMS??? The Colts had a bunch of garbage RBs last year, cut him, and elected to go with a 33 year old. What?!

I am just shocked and amazed the Patriots were able to add a TOP SHELF running back to their already potent offense.

Some background from Chevs over on the Planet:

A little more research on Dion Lewis

Cowboys DC Rod Marinelli says Lewis is a better version of Darren Sproles. Quicker, stronger, faster and Lewis is a better receiver & runs inside better than Sproles.

Did you know Lewis broke LeSean McCoy's record for points by a freshman at Pitt and Lewis also broke Tony Dorsett's record for yards by a freshman in the Big East? Lewis was the only freshman to earn All-American honors for 2009.

Eagles GM Joe Banner loved what Lewis offered and drafted him but once again Lewis was behind LeSean McCoy on the depth chart. When Banner was ousted from the Eagles during the FO shakeup as Chip Kelly came in, Banner went to Cleveland. Banner wanted Lewis and traded LB Emmanuel Acho to Philly for Lewis. Norv Turner has said Lewis was to be the starter for Cleveland in 2013 when TRich was traded but he broke his leg and went on IR. His leg still bothered bothered him in TC the next summer, 2014, so the Browns released him.

Soon after the Colts signed Lewis during wk 1 of the 2014 season, Colts DT Arthur Jones was lost for the season. Lewis was released a few days later to free up a roster spot otherwise he may still be a Colt. The Pats had him in for a workout soon after his release and it's believed by some that a deal was struck for a future's contract at that workout. I believe it.

Lewis worked out in the offseason with other Pats players at the Fisher Institute in AZ. His goal was to get quicker and stronger. He benches 400, squats 500 and runs a 4.5 40.

Prior to game 1, Brady told Collinsworth to keep an eye on Lewis and predicted Lewis would become a cult hero to Pats fans in short order.

I was on my high school wrestling team and the coach hung a sign up that read "INTENSITY IS EVERYTHING". Half way through the season, someone crossed out INTENSITY and replaced it with INJURIES ARE. Back to Dion, a broken leg must have been the issue. While we are at it, Gronkowski slid in the draft due to back injury concerns.

Not a failure. Always been productive. Size bias.

How is 80s glam rock popular?

Surprised there hasnt been a thread on him. One of the biggest takeaways for me from thursdays game is that lewis looks legit as a third down back. He can catch the ball and make people miss and also can run the ball better than vereen ever could. He definitely has won the role.

Another steal by bill. He seems to pick up solid 3rd down backs from anywhere from faulk to woodhead to vereen and now lewis

Im curious to see if bill will run any 2 rb sets this year with lewis and white.

Good call.

I checked some youtubes on him early on and fell in love with him. i started to read how he out lifted the linemen at pitt, watched more youtubes and said, this guy is an every down back [though that isn't our need].

Despite all this, he's better than i thought he was. He could improve his receiving ability, but with the ball in his hands, facing a defense, there's no one in the NFL better, I believe that.

I call him ghost, with apologies to our kicker, because defenders look like they have a handful of air when he runs by.

I think you may be under estimating the work he has done as a blocker. Like Gronk not all of Chandler's good work show's up on the stat sheet
Chandler has made some catches. Not enough targets to know whether he is a real threat, but he is at least as good as Hooman in that regard.

Chandler has only about half the targets he usually would get at this point. In the previous 4 years, he put up sold numbers with Fitz, Emanuel, and Orton throwing him the ball. He is the best number 2 TE in the league easily.

Also, Chandler is Antonio Gates compared to Hooman. Hoo has ok hands but Chandler is in a different league.

Shoutout to Miami for being smart enough to put Grimes on Lewis. Still got burnt though!

Ya Lewis would have probably had another 50 yards receiving and a TD if Brady would have put the ball slightly more in front of him on one of the plays Grimes was matched up on him. Went right by him and then Grimes dived to break up the pass and missed and was flat on his face.

You know it's a dangerous offense when the other team is putting their #1 CB on your RB.

  • Dion Lewis and Devonta Freeman are the only two RBs with 200+ rush yards and 300+ receiving yards.

God bless you man. You're a very talented individual, and I wish you a speedy recovery
