Calvin Johnson anyone?

Yeah, I don't see the Lions doing it or the Patriots doing it.
The Lions - because it would be seen as throwing in the towel.
The Pats - because the money totally doesn't work, unless, Calvin Johnson pulls a Randy Moss and agrees to tear up his contract.

If that's the case, I wouldn't mind giving up a 3rd round pick, but a 2nd rounder is steep considering the NFL stripped us of our 1st rounder next year for "Didn't-Prove-Anything-Gate".

If there's one thing history has taught us, it's when you have a historically great offense with near perfect chemistry and balance, it's always best to completely change that offense by bringing in a superstar player in the middle of the season, changing the entire unit for virtually no upside.

As tempting as a guy like Johnson would be, he'd likely go to waste in this offense.

On top of that, there's no way that Belichick would pay that kind of money. One area that is just fine is the current state of the passing game, so there's no reason to give this a second thought in my opinion.

Even written toungue in cheek, why would Belichick ever do that? He's obviously going to trade up and target the highest rated WR in the draft just like he always does anyway, so why bother?

Idiotic banter, but an idiotic news outlet.. anyone remember their "highly successful show";); "Cold Pizza" another effort to appeal to low information sports viewers..

what do you mean they? dont you mean we?
I do my best to not say "we" when it comes to the team. I don't play or work for the Patriots, so to me, it's "them." Doesn't mean I'm not a fan

When the Patriots traded for Randy Moss in 2007 Tom Brady converted salary to signing bonus to make room for Moss' 9.75m salary.

Doing the same thing this year would not create enough cap space to take on Calvin's 6.6m salary. Plus, it would increase Brady's 2016 and 2017 cap numbers.

@Miguel what are your thoughts on the Hightower/Collins and Jones resigning? Is it conceivable that we are able to retain all three, assuming Von Miller doesn't set the market for Jones too high (and also taking in account Solder/Vollmer for 2017).

Be nice if they could extend them now before Miller sets the market

Yes. The team would be in essence paying for talent it would not fully utilize.

With that said he is not the same player he was 3-4 years ago but still very, very good.

I can't believe I'm saying this but yes, this team does not NOT Calvin Johnson.

With that said if he came in here and basically became an upgraded version of LaFell I'd be ok with that.

I'd rather them trade for Sean Smith.

Everyone is throwing this out there...is there any indication he's the TYPE of CB Belichick would be looking at regardless of the other reasons (salary cap, loss of ANOTHER draft pick in a year we're already going to lose the highest value one, the back half not even as remotely bad as people are making it out to be, OL needs, etc) this likely won't happen?

please no...we don't need a WR...plus to pay that $$

If he is essentially free (5th round pick or whatever) and renegotiates, I'd not hang up the phone.
Oh, I'd like it if done and assume Belichick MIGHT know more than me. :)
