Yahoo link to avoid ESPN, not because I'm one of the last 90-year olds still on it:

Bills wide receiver goes on an Instagram rant calling fans 'losers' with 'little jobs'

On Tuesday night, Watkins opened up on Instagram in a since-deleted post in which he calls fans "losers" who are "working y'all little jobs for the rest of y'all lives" (screengrab via Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News):

As Skurski notes, Watkins has a point about people criticizing athletes over injuries. But at the same time, a professional athlete who has already made approximately $14 million in a little over a year can't go around calling the people responsible for all that money "losers."
I can't help but think that Rex's "open" locker room and brash, loud-mouthed antics rub off on the rest of the team. Follow the leader, all the way to the implosion.

Good thing they gave up 2 firsts for this guy.

It seems that when he was at College they didn't teach him anything about the English language...

"Everyone ONCE a response"

Difficult to add anything to the OP. Yes he has a point, but it really seems he is looking down his nose at anyone who didn't make it in the same way he did....lovely.

Rex encourages this type of thing, as he prefers "spirited players"...

Y'all be "spirited" now...

There is no coming back from those comments. fan disassociation for sure.

Some people think it's all about the money and that makes you above the next guy. It sure doesn't mean you can spell or use the English language properly. And it definitely doesn't make you smarter.

Hmmm ... Just lurked over in Bills Forum to get more fan reaction. It's pretty ugly. His tweet was apparently a very bad (stupid) reaction to many nasty fan tweets. Lots of frustration in Buffalo.

This is the new NFL "enhanced" by the 21st century social media phenomenon. You can't take these tweets back!

I'll be laughing when, like so many athletes out of touch with reality, he blows all his money on bad investments. He'll lose the house, the car, and the kids. Then he'll lose his self-respect as he has to deign to take one of those "little jobs."

So many of us work jobs we don't like, but that's what we've got. And we appreciate that, and that gives us what it takes to get through it. He won't have that - and after this bluster no one will be there going "Oh I loved watching you play Sammy." Sad... said no one.

Talk about burning bridges...The bankruptcy rate for pro athletes is much higher than the general public for the reasons you cited...

Hes clearly insecure, immature and is an elitist. I have no patience for people like that.

Along with *****ing that hes not getting the ball enough because it's "making him look bad", he dogs it when the ball doesn't come his way. That and his comments pretty much makes him a 1st rate ass hole and quite possibly a coach's worst nightmare. Rather than work harder, be more reliable and work more collaboratively with his teammates and coaches, the guy actually had the gall to go to his AGENT to complain about not getting enough touches.

Watkins only cares about his touches and his numbers. Everyone else he can't be bothered with.

A certain 4x Super Bowl winning coach once said, "Stats are for losers.".

Seems to me in this case, Watkins is the loser.

Eh, I'm really not a fan of this faux "outrage" that exists in society today. Everyone is up in arms about this. Yet 30 years ago we were all laughing our behinds off at Lee Elia. I blame 24/7 media coverage of everything for this; there's not enough news to fill the cycle so this is how they manufacture news.

Sorry for sounding like an old fart.... And I'm not even 40 yet. Get off my lawn!

Even the Buffalo homer radio show guys, who will go to great lengths not to say anything critical, Doug Whaley is doing a fine job by them, were astounded by Watkins's comments.

Then they really went to town on his subsequent posts which didn't make any sense.

"Just want to Thank all my fans for their support please don't retract yesterday's statement. My frustration is wanting to help the team and win for the city of Buffalo and for my teammates. As a player we need critics and also fans that's apart of the game, majority of the negative comments were from other fans not the Bills fans. My comments were still inappropriate don't matter what fan or who others cheer for we all represent the NFL shield Therefore #letsgobuffalo"

From that extremely articulate and eloquent post, I think it is safe to assume that Mr. Sammy Watkins won't be long for the world of professional football and the fortune he now has will dry up and wither away not long after.

How DARE you call what we're feeling faux outrage!!!! I'm all offended and stuff!!!

It's similar to what LeBron said a few years back..

On one hand, the misguided "engagement" of fans harassing players on social media (normally for fantasy football purposes) is pretty messed up and would wear on my nerves as a professional athlete as well. On the other, Watkins spent most of the first half of the season complaining he wasn't seeing enough targets, so I'm beginning to wonder if he isn't a headache.
