Easterbrook TMQ on pats success

BB knows that the injury reports are just a sham. It's only there to kowtow to both the legal and illegal gambling interests that help drive interest in the NFL. His multi-year use of Brady's arm on the injury report was just one example of him having fun with it. I remember a couple of times when virtually everyone showed up on the report.

I think in the last few years, the absurdity of the mandated injury report has mellow on him, and he's been pretty accurate with his listings. That is as accurate relative to the rest of the league. ;)
Yeah, for awhile there he was absolutely trolling the league. Nothing vaguely 'cheating' about it, but funny as hell.

What are the injury report shenanigans? I hear it all the time, and usually someone says because BB had Brady listed as probable with a shoulder for like 2 years and he played all those games.

If your going injured, but will play that's exactly what you're supposed to do. Whole thing sounds like more tinfoilhattery.

i'll be damned. I twas BB all along.

For years Drew Magary on Deadspin has had a section in his weekly football preview called "Gregg Easterbrook is a Haughty Dipsh*t."

There's a reason that section has had such staying power!

It ("injury report shenanigans") is one of those things that has been repeated so many times that it has been accepted as fact .... except, there are no facts to back the claim up.

Not dissimilar to how so very many writers and fans around the country claim that the Patriots were caught filming opponent's practices.

"Belichick could not possibly care less what anyone thinks of him. This is not a good character trait in a friend or public official"

What? This would actually be a great trait for our public officials and don't mind it in a friend either.

I've said that an dpeople have responded "it prevents gamblers." before, they'd go into the locker room and know what no one else did. My reply was, good, make them do things where they're caught and arrested.

goodell's a pawn of gamblers anyway.

Meanwhile, this past week the Cowboys reported that Hardy missed practice with an 'illness', when in reality they had no idea where he was or why he wasn't there.

If you include mental illness, they didn't need to know.

LOL PSI cheated is such a motivator Belichick might have staged it
Then he created it for the fans as well. I always feel a little blasé the year after an SB win. But not this year. Also I object on Edelman's behalf to Easterbook saying Gronk is the only "personality" on the team. (wish I'd seen @flasox27's post before I wrote this about Edelman. Maybe there's a reason Easterbrook didn't mention Jules?)

don't know about the no name defense comment. McCourty, Collins, Hightower, Sheard and Jones could all make the Pro Bowl. Brown and Easily are both first round picks and should be incredible in 2 yrs. Technically the 4th string linebacker is a top 10 pick as well.

Maybe these guys aren't selling jerseys at the rate of JJ Watt but they are all warriors.

How do the injury reports help gamblers legal or illegal?

Really? It offers them information that is useful in making betting decisions. This isn't rocket science. If you know Gronk is unlikely to play, you're more likely to bet the other team.

If everyone knows that it doesn't help anyone though. The line just moves. That's like saying the NFL helps gamblers by letting everyone know who the home team is. Home games are an advantage but the line just moves to reflect that as well. To help gamblers they would have to release it to only certain people.

The idea is to prevent any kind of espionage whereby only one or a few gamblers knows the injury information and can use it to their advantage. Since everyone already knows who's injured, there's no incentive to buy or sell the information.

I know, that's what I was explaining.

That's kind of the point. So maybe they word it wrong. It's to try and keep the betting field more or less even.
