Not once have I thought “we could lose this game” this season

If I'm being honest, I thought we could lose the jets game.

I don't THINK I'm a Negative Nancy but I have those concerns almost every game.
I was worried during this game including The Squirrel's TD drop which cost us a comfy 4 points.

Amendola is a Jet Killer. Remember his spectacular Welker defying TD catch to win the previous Jets game in Foxboro? Plus his returns in both games.

I think the first paragraph is a little harsh, particularly on Jordan Richards and Tre Flowers who haven't really been given a chance yet. Both played very well in pre-season and Richards hasn't done anything wrong in his limited opportunities. And credit to Patrick Chung, he's playing his best NFL football right now and keeping Richards' opportunities as limited as they are.

As for Malcom Brown, I never fret with a rookie not dominating on this team in his rookie year - it's such a complicated system. Don't forget, people were criticising Collins, Hightower and Easley in their rookie years. I'm prepared to be patient on Brown.

Mason has shown tremendous promise and Jackson has been fine and I'm very happy with Andrews and Coleman. In terms of hitting at every point in the draft, this last one might just end up being BBs best. Other drafts will have had better high points but in terms of hitting from the first to the seventh round (and beyond), whilst its still too early, I have a feeling this could be the class.
I'm not fretting over Brown, I just would have liked to see him secure more of a consistent role with the team. I am unsure if he is a nose tackle in the NFL or if he maybe better suited as a 3-tech or 5-tech DT/DE.

As for the others they have all flashed potential as I said but none of them have secured a consistent role yet. I am hopeful that changes in the second half of the years. I do agree that Chung has made it hard for Richards to get on the field, he has been very good this year.

Nice thread, the title doesn't do it justice.

Regarding the title, I was expecting to lose the game from before it started until we took the lead in the 4th quarter. I know we rarely lose at home but with so many players out I had a feeling we would lose this one and, hopefully, be stronger to fight another day. Glad I was wrong.

I am not trying to sound overconfident, I am just being honest, I have watched every minute of every game this season, and not one single time have I thought to myself – **** we could lose this game.

These are some things I have thought this season:

- Danny Amendola has made me look like an idiot for the negative things I said in prior years about his play. He has been sensational this season, making key play after key play. I am not going to jump on the Amendola fan wagon because I do not deserve to be on it, I should have given him more of a chance to find his place on this team. He has now and he has been invaluable.

- As I was telling some guy in my gym locker room today, I never thought Dion Lewis would be as good as he is, he came out of now where, and has once again reminded me that draft position does not mean very much these days. As a player he is nowhere near Barry Sanders but from a pure elusiveness aspect he is Sanders like.

- The primary reason I have not thought we might lose is Brady, he just seems completely in control this season, he is playing as good as any QB has ever played in the NFL.

- Edelman is in the best shape of his career, he is playing through a hand injury right now and always seems to have a mid-season slump (look at 2013 and 2014 he slumped for 2-3 games I the middle of the season too). Overall though he has taken his game to new heights.

- Gronkowski is the most dominate non QB offensive player in the NFL. He demoralizes defenders dragging them like they are mere mortals down the field.

- Jamie Collins is the best defensive player in the NFL. I know JJ Watt is great, but he is just a pass rusher and on the line defender, Collins can dominate a football game in some many different ways. The blocked kick last week was remarkable, I laughed out loud watching the replays.

- I do not understand why they do not give Dobson more opportunity, is he a punk during the week or something? He seems to play well when given a chance, he makes plays.

- Butler has played as well as any CB outside of the top 5 this season, he is always competitive with the receiver, people were critical of him today, he only allowed 5/11 for 83 yards, playing against a WR with 6 inches on him and ran routes from the slot about 50% of the time today. I have been please with him and Logan Ryan.

- We need to bring in another CB, personally I think with LaFell back and Martin as depth trading Dobson to KC for Sean Smith makes sense for both teams. I like Dobson but I think the coaching staff feels a different way, he has a season left on his contract, so KC could try making something out of him. Smith plays RCB so that would put Butler at LCB, Smith at RCB, and Ryan in the slot. Add Coleman as the dime CB and I am very confident that we can be a top 10 secondary.

- Easley is coming on; he is only going to get better. He is one of the most explosive interior DL off the snap that I have ever seen at any level.

- I would like to see more out of Malcolm Brown, Jordan Richards, Geno Grissom, and Trey Flowers. They have all flashed but nothing consistent yet.

- Mason and Jackson have been our best draft picks, and Andrews and Coleman have been better than most teams 2nd and 3rd round picks.

- Vollmer at LT and Cannon at RT (when he is healthy) could be a better line than Solder at LT and Vollmer at RT. That aside I would rather have a healthy Solder no matter what.

- Chandler Jones is almost as big as Richard Seymour according to my eyes and the added size has made him much better.

- Donta Hightower is playing terrific, he has really emerged since the start of 2014, and him and Collins are the best LB tandem in the NFL and #2 is not even close.

- Alan Branch has to be about 380-400lbs, no joke, he is massive, and playing very well. I am also very happy with what I have seen from Hicks since his arrival, consider that both these players were cast offs from other team and their play stands out even more.

- I was hoping from more of a leap forward this year from Siliga.

- I was wrong about Bolden emerging as a top RB, I said that a lot in the preseason and it has not been the case at all.

- Every time I see #85 I smile and think how smart Belichick is, as I have said many weeks in the game day thread, our 310lb TE is one of my favorite players.

Overall great season thus far, they have proven they can win multiple ways, and with some much youth this team will only get better.

I have an issue with Times Roman font. I was trying to work through it wit my shrink, but deflategate got in the way...

After we settled for a FG to make it 17-16, Jets, and they were driving with ease down the field,

I got a little bit anxious.

When we held them to a FG, though, I felt better at 20-16, knowing that we had AT LEAST one more TD in our future.

Numb, mindless Presumption and Arrogance. What a pathetic State of Mind.

I, myself, take absolutely nothing for granted.

Every Team is capable of going 0-16 every Year.

Every Game can be lost.

And that is what makes our unfathomable Reign of Dominance so flabbergastingly glorious.

*This wasn't targeted at mere expressions of Confidence, of course, which are fully warranted, hereabouts. :D

On the flip side, how many 3rd and 17's did the Jets need to complete, just to stay in this game. Hard to take a play away from one side without revisiting plays on the other side.

Most teams have a chance to win each week, but I didn't feel like the game was out of our control. Just needed better execution. Brady was excellent as the game progressed and factored in the Jets rush vs OLine protection. He was more mobile, extended plays which may take some getting used to, but seems a valid part of his repertoire...given that it now appears at the ripe old age of 38 :D.

I agree. Lots of individual plays decide a game. If you did A or B or C the game changes. However, the question was getting that "we could lose this game" feeling. For that question you can't leave out the crucial nature of the shortened sequence to defeat. 4th quarter, less than 11 minutes to go, you are losing by 3, you're at your own 25, and you are looking at 3rd and 17. That is a very different scenario than you are losing by 3, you're at your own 25, you are looking at 3rd and 17 and it is the 2nd quarter.
Put another way, that 3rd and 17 is a play that is unlikely to be executed to get the first down. Not executing it in the second quarter of a game you are down one score to is no where close to the same as not executing it down one score in the fourth quarter when discussing getting that sense we could lose.

While down one score in the 4th with about 11 minutes to go and looking at punting is not a dire circumstance by any stretch of the imagination, the Jets having the ball with 10 mins to go and a fresh set of downs (probably at/around their own 30), meaning we are looking at possibly only 2 more possessions, if that doesn't rise to definitely getting some level of 'we could lose this game' feeling then you/others confidence is simply higher than mine.

Not sure why I wasn't more worried. Probably because I was behind real-time enough to skip from play to play to see the go-ahead score.

Ultimately I'd say that while not confident of a victory, I wasn't worried about a loss.

if you didnt think at some point during Sundays game there was at least a chance we could lose this game....i dont know what you were watching sunday...it was 17-16 Jets late in 3rd and marshall just missed a TD that woudlve make it 24-16.

BB had great things to say about chung and very revealing in admitting that they used chung the wrong way 1st time around.

Bill Belichick on D&H: ‘It’s always good to beat the Jets’

Chung signed with the Eagles and played there in 2013, but returned to New England last year and has turned his career around. Belichick said they didn’t use him correctly at the end of his first stint and that has been the biggest difference.

“Probably more us,” he said. “And Patrick and I talked quite a bit about that after Philadelphia and coming back here. We played a lot of split safety coverage, played a lot in the deep part of the field. Patrick is a good player. I mean, he does a lot of things for us. He’s very good in the kicking game, he can play man-to-man, he can play zone, he tackles very well, he’s a good run defender. We [play] a lot more single high safety coverages where he could play lower, closer to the line of scrimmage and I think he plays very well there and less defense where he’s 15-20 yards away from the line of scrimmage. Devin [McCourty] does that well for us. Duron [Harmon] does that.

“We have some other guys that can do that and that is one of the things Pat and I talked about after his 2013 season in Philadelphia. That was one of his questions. ‘Why would it be different now?’ I explained to him this is why. It’s worked out. He’s played really well for us. I don’t think he’s changed very much as a player. He does the things well that he’s always done well. I think we’ve done a better job of using him in our scheme the last two years than maybe we did in 2012, 2013

Are you counting coin tosses? :)

Josh, you really need to express yourself more. Were not really sure how you feel about the Gronk TD.
