3rd down defense. Woof

Survive and advance.

They loaded up on the run today and it worked

Agree completely. They use what they need and they stuffed the run and kept everything underneath them. Frustrating to watch but it got it done. The secondary is going to be an issue all year but they can win with it.

If he's a good #2, he needs to do a better job of containing the other team's #2 WR. I understand that the other guy will make plays as well, but Decker dominated him today.

Agreed.

The Jets generally always play us tough.
In the end our talent and coaching overcame them.
Was a good win over a division opponent.
Mistakes , yeah but as somebody said, stuff that's correctable.
6-0 is still pretty good at this point in the season

As a matter of perspective in regards to the third down defense:

The Patriots are at 40.0% (28/70), which ranks them below average (tied for 20th).

If over the course of the season thus far they had simply made just three (3) more third down stops, then the Pats' defense would be at 25/70 (35.7%).

That relatively minor improvement would put them in the top ten (tied for 8th place) in the NFL.

That's a lazy assessment.

Butler got beat pretty bad by Decker numerous times and it wasn't competitive at times.

And the Pats still won 30-23.

With a patched together OL. (That performed well against a top DL)
Without Lewis.
Without Sheard.
With 10-11 drops (first downs and a TD)

How many tipped balls fell to the ground today?

The Jets are a legitimate team. They played well and still lost.

They will be tough to beat in December.

Never go full ******.

If we are going to play primarily man to man with an unheralded secondary then expect some games like this. It just is what it is......especially against a team that has a QB who can sling it and have receivers who can go get the ball. Side note: I'm not sure why people are so down on Fitzpatrick. While he can mistake prone and I am not saying he is elite, IMHO he is the best QB the Jets have had in a long time. He would be an improvement on a whole bunch of teams over the QBs they currently have.

One good thing about the DBs is it appears they continue to look better in second halves of games. IMO that is a good sign and will be crucial in the POs.

Those crossing patterns today were the soft underbelly though.

I thought the failure to contain fitz running was huge. Keep him in the pocket and stick your hands up and we get an interception eventually.

I guess no one can accuse us of using stickum, anyway, on offense or defense.

I wonder if BB ever plays defensive players on offense like flag football in practice. Nink. chandler, butler and more are letting lots of easy interceptions go through their fingers.

A master of detail like BB might pounce on that and have some fun.

Makes you appreciate wilfork, doesn't it?

What do you guys think of Hicks? I thought he looked pretty good except for the sack whiff. Hooman had a good game with 4 receptions and a TD. Maybe it really is win-win.

Hicks has been pretty good ever since he's came here. Love that trade.

We missed Sheard today. I thought the CBs and Chung looked good late in the game, but CBs just aren't going to be our strength this year. Every team has a soft position with the cap.

I thought Sheard would have made a big difference today. Too much pressure with lousy results today.

Hate to overreact, but could we have a fantastic DLine rotation growing here? Branch seems to take the competition personally and played by far the best game I've seen. I've never seen the team have a 4-5 man rotation they can vary at defensive tackle like they have now, plug the run, get after the QB and stay fresh. I'm getting kind of excited.

I always defended Hooman as a dependable player with good hands, though not elusive. But let's face it, he was going to be cut with chandler and Williams.

Hicks is a gift. He and Brown could be 2 way tackles who can play run or penetrate. Add Easley on some plays and an excited Branch and Siliga on others.. wow.

Teamns rarely put it all together, but add sheard, the rooks and chandler/nink to the DT rotation and we could have a lot of pop flies our secondary could corral.

Like to see more of this Melvin. If he can at least cover big guys and gain confidence...we'll see.

Play better on thursday

We'll see the Jets again, and hopefully our secondary will be working better together as a unit when we do. The Jets are a good team - Might see them a third time in the post season.
