Jets safety on Brady: You prepare the same way you prepare for Kirk Cousins

The Boston and New York press are the biggest vultures out there. Must be so hard to play in these markets where every writer is trying to twist your words into a controversy.
BREAKING STORY:

Ice_Ice_Brady calls everyone from Boston "vultures" and "twisted"

:D

Anyone who thinks this is a "no big deal" quote needs reading comprehension 101. Unless you want your butthole ripped apart, you definitely prepare differently for Brady than you do any other QB, especially Kirk Cousins. You change your schemes, your blitzes, your coverages. If you prepare the same way as you did for Cousins, you will lose.

Nothing wrong with what he said, although it might make more sense the other way around. "We have to prepare for Kirk Cousins the same way we prepare for Tom Brady."

This Jets team is scaring me. I guess I'm just used to Rex and the stupidity that he creates with that giant mouth of his. This team seems humble, hungry, and respectful.

How did that scumbag owner get this lucky to find a competent HC/GM combo?

Umm..... from the article:

Gilchrist stresses that he’s not trying to disparage anyone. The way he sees it, it’s more about the Jets than it is about Brady or the Patriots. He thinks New York’s best bet to stop New England (5-0) Sunday is to focus internally on executing its game plan.

Gilchrist essentially said what we'd expect a Patriots player to say in the same situation.

Todd Bowles is the kind of guy that's hard to dislike, in my opinion. I think he is mature and established enough to know that you don't win on the field by talking off of it. Just look at the respect he showed by commenting on the week #1 "headsetgate" ********, by coming forth and stating that it's never happened to him in N.England. That would have been a prime opportunity to try and pile on, yet he chose to approach this rivalry from a different angle. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but for me, that was a clear hint at how Bowles was going to approach this.

As far as the NYJ being better than expected, I started to become concerned during the offseason with the aforementioned HC change, and some of the moves they made, like bringing in Marshall, Revis, Cromartie, and Skrine. Once that idiot Geno Smith was knocked out, I became even more concerned, because I think that Ryan Fitzpatrick is a "good enough" journeyman QB to go at least 10-6+ when placed in the right setting. The WR trio of Marshall, Decker, and (eventually) Smith combined with a bigger bruising RB like Ivory obviously helps a guy like Fitzpatrick, and the defense was already good before the offseason additions.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the comments made from either Richardson or the safety. They both elaborated upon their thoughts and attempted to take the precautionary measures that would prevent such headlines.

Unfortunately, the mediots will always try and make it a bigger deal. I'm not getting sucked into the whining he said/she said game, the overconfidence game, or the media's ability to make me think negatively of someone who is trying to show confidence as a fairly clear underdog. Anyone who has looked past the NYJ games over the past 2-3 years obviously hasn't been paying attention to the scores or circumstances.

I also don't buy into the angle that ALL of these comments give the Pats added motivation. There have been some, sure--but I'm guessing that they're already pretty motivated to begin with. That said, I probably would have a strict tight lipped policy on my team for fear that something like this could add motivation if blown up or taken in the wrong way.

So their gameplan is the same week after week? Or are they just using the same exact gameplan for Cousins and Brady?

It's not about the game plan, it's about how they prepare. There's nothing inflammatory here to those with a rational perspective.

All this does is affirm that Kirk Cousins is the current reference point for scrub QBs. No knock on TFB

Can't even really go THAT far, since I'm guessing the only reason he referenced Cousins is because they just played him last week. This is the ultimate nothing quote. We're just so used to a Rex Ryan led Jets blabber-squad that we're seeing Disrespect Ghosts around every corner.

They're essentially saying that this is another game. Not some sort of early season Super Bowl. The Pats say the same ****. The same thing is happening in the Sheldon Richardson "guarantee" thread that was not a guarantee of Jets victory. People around here are so thirsty for bulletin board material that they're stretching and biting on the title of the article as opposed to reading it.

I didn't imply that this was a diss at Brady. If he meant what he said then I just think it's kind of funny that someone would think you'll beat Brady by preparing like you would for Kirk Cousins.

I hope they do. :)

Perhaps, then, you should have read the article, since Cousins is just the name of the QB from the previous week, and serves as nothing more than a placekeeper for Gilchrist's point, which is that you need to prepare your ass off every week, regardless of who you're facing.

Again, it's something we'd expect the Patriots players, or BB, to say.

I agree that the latter is what I would expect our team to say.

But in Broncos game week I don't think you'll be hearing anyone on this team say you prepare for Peyton Manning like you prepare for Tyrod Taylor - since the Pats will have just played the Bills....

Just thought it was a little odd that's all.

usually, the comparison goes the other way. e.g., "we'll prepare for kirk cousins the same way we prepare for tom brady". the sentiment behind the statement--prepare equally hard no matter who the opponent is--is clearer when presented that way.

Yes.... It's the same line, but the game versus the Redskins came before the game versus the Patriots, so the title of the story gets a juicier mislead to it.

This is getting boring, we don't have to find a reason to hate everything the Jets do. Looking at the overall lack of noise coming from New Jersey, the new new york jets might actually make for good rivals.

You're reaching.

Can only hope that the entire Jets defense takes that approach to preparing for Brady..

It doesn't matter, even if it is the game plan. The difference is the game plan works against Cousins.
