We're On To the Jets!

I think this will be similar to the Cowboys game, rough 1st half but in the end we prevail. I have a feeling Gronk is going to have a big game. Pats have too many O weapons for them to keep up. Pats D is better than people think. Fitzy will make mistakes it's inevitable.

I'm not saying contender by any means. Long ways to go for any talk like that. A week 7 win vs a division rival would be a step in the right direction though. But it is just one game. Doesn't make or break the season. Just hope it's a good one, and like many have said, w/o injury on either side.
If the Jets were at home playing the Pats, I'd think that you would have reason for optimism. Taking on Brady at Gillette is another story.

Sure being home would be nice. Especially cause now I'm probably gonna be freezing my @ss off tailgating and watching the game week 16. But if things stay tight, that's gonna one hell of a fun game.

But this week, I dunno. Don't think the team really cares that it's on the road. They see pretty calm and workmen-like to me.

Jets just gotta sweep for bugs in the locker room. ;)

Doesn't matter. Why do you think the Pats let Revis walk? It wasn't money. When Revis was on the Pats and snoozing on the team airplane, Belichick had the team doctor do a subcutaneous implant of a nanoscale microphone and transmitter. BB has heard everything that has gone on in the Jets locker room this season.

The Jets have played sub-par teams up to this point. Everyone in the media is saying this is going to be a close game. When they call it close it isn't....when they call a blowout...it's close. IMO this will be the blowout we were hoping to give the Colts. The Jets come down to reality and land in familiar territory once again...The Land of Average.

Tough game but the Patriots take care of business at home. I think it will take good games from their secondary weapons, Amendola, Deion Lewis, LaFell, and Chandler, and a really good game from the secondary. I don't believe they can beat them simply running Ivory, if they don't allow big plays from Marshall and Decker they should be fine. I actually expect them to do a pretty good job of containing Ivory. They can go big on that DL when they want and I would expect it on early downs.

What I'm hoping to see is that whoever Revis lines up on will immediately motion to split out wide to take him out of the play.

Assuming Skrines isn't ready to go, whoever plays the slot will get to have a big day, likely Amendola. I think Lafell returns, and goes back to X, Edelman stays at Z and we'll see Gronk in the slot to start with, if the mismatch is there.

Since Jets love to blitz, I think we'll see Brady in a lot of empty depending on the look he gets on a particular snap, going to the quick release/hot routes. He will have the luxury of flexing out Lewis or keeping him in H for the quick dumpoff.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the no-huddle at some point, possibly to open the game, especially if we win the coin toss. This will quickly gas the defense if they stay with the blitz or extra rusher.

Buster Skrine expected to play Sunday

If Skrine is playing and anywhere near 100%, I'd guess the CBs stay put with Skrine in the slot. Of course if things start going south, they may switch to having 24 follow the WR causing issues. But at first, there's no problem keeping Skrine in the slot. It's his best position anyway.

Gronk is just a pain in the @ss to try and cover, so I'd expect a particular scheme for him with a LB following him to slow him during the first 5 yards with help over top. Besides that, CBs should match-up well with whoever. Cro on Edelman may want to be avoided though.

Ideally:
Revis - Edelman/Amendola
Cro - Lafell
Skrine - Amendola/Edelman
Mcdougle or Pryor - Dion coming out of the backfield
**Edit: Looks like our #4 CB Williams will play too. So he'd get in the mix as well.

Double Gronk with LB and safety. Leaving the front 4 and a LB to get after Brady.

Or of course occasionally throw out all the man coverage, run a zone and send the house at Brady.

Bowles does love to blitz, but since Sheldon is back now, they can get pressure with the front four. Didn't look at the numbers from last week but pretty sure they didn't blitz nearly as much last week.

A 5 - 11 team did back in 2001.

Mistake free QB play can do wonders for a team.

There should be a rule against using the term "mistake free QB play" in a Jets thread. ;)

Well compared to Sanchez and Geno, that's what Fitzpatrick is doing.

I was so tempted to create a fake Don Van Natta account and ask if I had your permission to quote you on this. As an unnamed source, of course. :)

I have not watched much of the Jets so perhaps you could share further insights: Has Bowles continued the Ryan tradition of moving Revis all over the field, depending on downs, or is he mostly in traditional L-R schemes with Cro on the other end?

Your scheme proposition makes sense if Brady were to throw exclusively, but becomes a liability if Lewis is used as a runner, especially up the middle if we are able to stretch the game horizontally.

You know of course that we'll continue adjusting until we find the weak spot in your game plan so we may open in the spread and end up in a heavy 12, or even go back to that 04, or vice versa.

Adjustment is not something Fitzpatrick is not known for, so if you can't get ahead, it'll be tough to keep up.

It'll be a good game, nonetheless.

Revis - Edelman/Amendola

I'm not sure how good of a good match up that would be for Patriots legend Darrelle Revis, despite the fact that he is currently the best CB in the league. Doesn't he struggle against small, quick, shifty receivers?

Bowles hasn't gone to the extreme Rex has with regards to having Revis shadow the #1. Though Rex never had quite the stable of CBs Bowles has to work with now either. Sure Revis and Cro played under Rex, but Skrine makes a big difference. You don't usually want to see Cro in the slot, but with Skrine, that's his ideal position given his skillset. You'll still see Revis moving around pre-snap shadowing someone, as Bowles has mentioned he will do, just not nearly as much as in the past.

This could be me wearing Green goggles, but until proven otherwise, I don't have much of a worry about the Pats (or any team's running game) vs our front. Yes the front 3 or 4 can get pressure on the QB, but their main strength is eating RBs for lunch. Up the middle in particular. It's really fun to watch.

I have no clue how the Jets will line up when the Pats go big. I haven't seen many Pats games, but seems like whenever they get inside the 10, they go to like 4 TEs. Not gonna lie, that's a bit worrisome. Curious to see what Bowles has for that.

Really pisses me off too cause it's screws over Edelman for TDs and he's one of my fantasy WRs. Also have Marshall though, and expect him to make up for any limitation on Edelman's stats this week. :)

Right. Should be great game. Hard hitting and a chess match.

The only way I'd be comfortable if we're down at halftime is if there's been a lot of Ivory and the Oline beating on the D. Even if it's not very successful in the first half, that usually tends to wear down the opposing front and really open things late in the 3rd.
