I was looking at the Offensive Pass Interference calls for this year. I knew the Patriots had been called quite a few times but I had no idea they were the stark outlier in that category.

As of week 6, OPI calls per game:
*Patriots - 1.2
*Washington - .66
*A few with .5 and .4
*Many with .33 and .25 and 0.0
**The zeroes are Denver, SD, Pitt, Baltimore, Indy, Dallas, Sea, SF and a couple of others.
*League average is approx .25 a game.

Obviously the pass heavy Patriots could be expected to have more. Still it is interesting that it was much much higher than everyone else. At this rate a majority teams will not have a season total OPI number that the Patriots have through 5 games.
BS calls aside, BB and staff must be looking at this and coaching it up. A happy medium of a solid push off but not so much it draws a flag can be perfected.

Most of our OPIs came off the same play where Edelman picks the defender and frees up Amendola running deep on the sideline. If we just stop using that dumb play our number will go down.

...and the 'Skins have thrown the ball around 30 more times than the Pats.

Complete BS.

The rules apply to everyone.

The terribleness of how this rule has been applied to the Patriots has been pretty clear. Glad the stats back it up. Hopefully this levels off.

I've noticed Gronk being pinged a couple of times for this and being mystified by it.

I'm sure this is a point of emphasis that Bill will have them working on - the Patriots have a rep for pick plays but unlike the Colts/Packers and Broncos they are getting called for it harshly.

Adapt and move on.

Pass plays per OPI would be a more reliable statistic to gauge the frequency and to compare.

The OPI against Chandler in the end zone only kind of looked like OPI because he was so much bigger than the defender.

In the Chargers/Packers game, James Jones ran a route into the right side of the end zone with a CB defending him perfectly. Jones just shoved the guy off him fully extending his arms. It could not be any more blatant. No PI was called and he caught a TD. Teams are getting away with it, but the Pats have had no such "luck" this year. A couple of the pick plays were clearly penalties, but the team and especially Gronk have been called very tightly this year. Then I watch other games and guys are getting away with blatant push offs. This stat doesn't surprise me at all.

It's part of Goodell's master strategy to rein the Patriots in.

This can't be right, the refs always favor the Pats -- other team fans

On most of those opi's the offensive player has the same right to that space as the defensive player, it is just that if you are a patriot you lose all rights. And the chandler opi, he was in the process of raising his arms to catch the ball and the defender was draped on his right arm and fell off in the process. There are catches like that in every game but this is one of the few times I have seen it called opi, it's usually dpi because you can't contact the receiver when the ball is in the air.
