Patriots popular overseas?

Nah. Foreigners are idiots just like us. But they don't have the emotional baggage of already rooting for one of the other 31 teams in the NFL, none of whom can match the sustained excellence of the Patriots. So they look, and they see success, and they see likable hard-working fun-loving people like Brady and Gronk and Jules, and they say, "Hey, I'll root for those guys." ;)

Then they say, "How does this bloody game work?" LOL

Actually, the Pats are among the Top 3 or 5 favorite teams among NFL fans even right here in America, and have one of the largest "diaspora" followings. I think only Dallas and Pittsburgh have more fans from outside the region where the team is based. Don't let the media hate and comments sections fool you.

For most foreigners the Patriots are probably the only thing that make the NFL even worth watching. To neutral eyes the NFL just looks like a roided up version of rugby that is full of criminals where the referees themselves don't know the rules and the governing body doesn't know basic science.

Pats are popular here in China. NFL offers free streaming feed to Chinese video sites. They stream all 16 Pats game.

You couldn't be more wrong tbh. Since a national television started to show the NFL in my country its popularity sky rocketed. The only thing that most have really get used to is the frequency of ads due to pauses in the game.

But there is a certain kind of fan ... The super bowl fan. Doesn't give a **** about a team doesn't know the rules but when the Super Bowl is playing they pretend to love everything about football.

Personally I started to root for the Pats because there are alot of similarities to my favourite soccer team. I think the "recent" success of the Pats is the reason why they are so popular. In general GB, 49ers and Pats are the most liked teams in the NFL

The fact that the Boston area (and frankly MA as a whole) has had a big non American student population for decades and decades is significant too. Living here in the Philippines, there are a lot of Alumni of these schools (I am one of them) who call the Pats and other Boston area teams as their favorite in each respective sport.

Of course New England isn't the only popular team here as California for instance also has a lot of foreign students who then become Alumni as well.

Wait, are we more popular than Cowboys now?

Heheheh, Patri-aughts!

I didn't see this elsewhere but thought it was heartening. Maybe foreigners are generally smarter than Americans?

Patriots aren't 'America's Team' but Tom Brady's stardom carries over to Europe where Pats have popularity

This is another reason why the NFL and Roger Goodell are complete morons to go after Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. They want a franchise in London and other major European cities. Why set out to destroy the reputation of their most popular team?

Hmmm....I must be a "Foreigner."

I figure the Patriots are grouped in with the Packers, Steelers, and Cowboys in terms of overseas popularity. Surprised to see the 49ers mentioned, although that may be from the generation that followed the Joe Montana years.

Cowboys, 49ers, Patriots, Chicago Bulls, all have had their dynasties, TV's around the world sometimes broadcast only playoffs or finals, so non american fans have more contact with these teams and obviously when they have great teams and are playing for the championship so it's difficult not to pick one of the great teams to root for.

Patriots are also one of the most popular teams in Brazil. Espn (they aren't as obnoxious here) airs some games every week and, even though I have never properly counted, but i'd bet we are the most aired team here.
