OT was letting both Talib and Revis sign elsewhere a good decision?

right now, both are CaRRYING there teams to 6-0 and 4-1 records because of there outstanding playmaking ability.

Would have been nice to keep one of them long term, especially with our CB depth being very thin

Yup. Talib had a good offer from the Pats. Took a bit more and that was that. So the Pats didn't let Talib walk.

We won the SB after we let Talib go. We are currently 5-0 with a defense that is top 10 in PPG allowed after letting Revis go.

The answer to both is "yes." I agree with the decision to not pay Revis what he was asking.

Would the CB position better with them? YES

Would the Defense better with them? Possibly but check the stats

Would the team better with them? Cant say but stats say no.

Was last years team and the year before team better than this team? At this point NO.

This defense (and this team) would very likely not be 5-0 if we had to match the going rate it would have taken to keep those two players. Salary cap dude...... try looking it up. This is not an Madden all-star team with no cap limit. Would love to have kept both players, but not at the price they were asking. I'm comfortable with us not signing them at this point.

The only way we could have kept Revis is to spend 25 million on the franchise tag, which would have been a colossal mistake. We thought he would stick around for 12.5ish a year. We were wrong. It was his decision to leave, we didn't cast him off.

Revis' s a major talent but i think we can upgrade the secondary through a trade. They have done a good thus far but very thin

It's not only the annual salary, it's the length of the contract and the guaranteed money. How many years can he keep up that level of performance?

Obviously you'd like to keep them but it's hard to hold onto top players like revised or talib and still have the depth patriots teams like to have.

Yes, it would have been.

But if you think we SHOULD have kept them, and that we are underspending badly at CB -- what position(s) do you think we are overspending at?

Well, it's important to note the teams don't dictate what free agents can and cannot do. Couldn't force those guys to have the type of character that emphasizes winning above all else. I'd rather spend the money on re-signing the character guys we have.
