Breaking: Solder Gone For Season. Will Have Surgery

I just had this same injury. After surgery, told it will be about 5 months for complete fix.

My guess would be that Cannon plays LT and gets help from one of our three big TEs. I think that makes sense over shifting Vollmer across and potentially weakening two positions rather than one.

Oh Fudge is one of my favorites from that movie. :D

Cannon also struggles a bit with speed rushers, which he'll almost certainly see more of on the left side. I think moving Vollmer to LT would be a good idea.
Sigh....I dunna know.

Do you make a position that you are elite at average and make a position that you are below average at average to above average?

I just don't see Vollmer being elite at LT without a TC and lots of practice....

LT is a critical spot. Seabass did play it at U of Houston...

Cannon is a capable RT and Vollmer has been an All-Pro on the right side. Given the production, I think it would be less of a risk to move Vollmer to LT and let Cannon hold down RT, where he showed that he was steady in 2013.

I dunno, but given how much the Pats are paying Vollmer to play RT, I'm assuming they're operating under the idea that he can play LT if/when needed.

Vollmer played LT as a rookie, in 2009, and did well, when Light went down.

Wow, that stinks. Get better soon Nate! Hopefully the guys left will be able to fill the void. They were saying that BB was chilly Billy at his presser today. When I heard the replay I thought he sounded more glum than chilly, but chalked it up to being under the weather. Maybe this was why...

First IR shoe to drop. Not bad as we are approx. 30% into the season.
A prayer for Solder to make a full and speedy recovery, of course, as well as for this to be the last IR shoe to drop. It's unlikely, unfortunately, but one can always hope.

Next man up....
Next man up. That's why Canon/Fleming are reserves.they're not good enough to be starters

Could also be that they operate under the fact that Vollmer is among the best RTs in the league, if not the best in the league.

Will Svitek, Gabe Carimi, Eben Britton are a few veteren FA names out there.

How many teams can lose an all-pro talent at a premium position and then shrug their shoulders and move on?

One if the deepest teams I can ever remember. We will miss solder, but really this will just create a trade market for either cannon or solder in the offseason.

Yea....now that I think about it that might be the best move. My preference is to see how Cannon does before moving Seabass to LT>

If you put any stock in PFF stats (not the lame -ass analytics) Cannon was in top 5 in fewest pressures/hurries/sacks allowed per snap in 2013. I don't remember how much help they provided for him.

Breer trying hard, but knowledgeable fans are schooling him big time (see the comments!):

Bear in mind that Thre of the best pass rushers we're likely to face, Von Miller, Cameron Wake and JJ Watt have a tendency to line up at LDE. Another reason to keep Vollmer at RT.

I'm thinking that is an injury that may not be able to be completely effective with after recovery.

But maybe that is more of a problem for someone who tackles people, rather than one who blocks them.

Isn't that an injury steroid users get?
It is common to steroid but not due to steroid use. It normally goes with over training(strength) and under training (flexibility) steroid users get it because they can train more and therefore don't recover enough. I would guess it occurred trying to reach Hardy who was too quick.
