Brady doubles down on his medical beliefs

Not exactly at Tom Cruise Scientology level yet. At that point I will become concerned.

Although I joke about Cruise, he truly believes in his heart that Scientology led him to his career superstardom....maybe Brady feels similarly about his diet, supplements, etc. It is interesting to see what super famous people are truly passionate about, and it is usually something that helped them when they were struggling, whether you agree with it or not.

Brady's guru is an immoral quack who indirectly has blood on his hands. But Brady is not him. Brady's another guy who got suckered in, just like every poor bastard who spent $39.95 on some miracle cream, just on a larger scale.

I don't think any less of the Beatles because they bought into the Maharishi for a while. And I don't suddenly not love Brady because of this.

I feel sorry for him a bit though.

Now, you guys may think that I'm full of crap, but the proof is what you see on the field.

That is a pretty compelling trump card, I guess. I think there's a lot of merit to his statements about lifestyle, diet and proactive maintenance being the best path to staying healthy. That's pretty much established fact. Also established fact: a lot of the most widely available food in America is garbage at best and basically poison at worst. It's no fluke that a third of Americans are obese and another third are overweight.

But at the same time, I think Brady veers a little too close to presenting himself as an expert on medicine for my liking. And more importantly, Alex Guerrero does not seem like a good person to put your faith in based on what little we know about him. But then again, as he says: the proof is what we see on the field. However weird I find this whole line of reasoning, Brady seems to take it really seriously, and the results support what he's claiming at least.

Yeah it was a bit strange although I agree with the proactive diet concept but the interview was borderline Coral Calciuminish although not quite there.

If Brady plans on using his celebrity to push a healthy diet onto our youth etc... then that's a definite good thing. His partner has the potential to tarnish his company's credibility but if Tom sticks to a realistic agenda he could minimize that damage.

Hopefully we don't see Bob Barefoot partner up. o_O

When one considers how great an athlete Brady is for his age, his devotion to a strict program makes a lot of sense. Bernard Hopkins at age 46 is totally fanatical about his diet, so much so that he does most of his own cooking.

My buddy out here in SF is a staff "doctor" for the Oakland Raiders and for a few UFC fighters - his beliefs are more based on sleep and eating habits too, but he is also very open to more Eastern beliefs - incorporating meditation, Yoga, Chiropractics, buddhist practices etc. That's just California for you I guess. Brady was mainly talking about eating habits - not nearly so "out there".

Living in CA for the better part of a decade has maybe taken a toll on me, because I'm surprised to learn that yoga is still considered to be at all 'out there'. Out here, at least, it really is pretty much accepted as a healthy and worthwhile thing to do. Is that not the case back east?

I meant the quotes to imply sarcasm. I've been in SF for a decade now and its all widespread and accepted here. I just don't think what Brady was saying about eating habits warrants all this debate. they aren't revolutionary ideas.

WTF? You don't have even the slightest clue what you are talking about. People like you are the immoral quacks throwing around comments like this.

I have no issue with what Brady is doing, he believes in this and that is critical for any dietary or medical regimen anyone who wants to stay healthy or needs to heal.

We live in a society that is dominated by big pharma, go to the Doctor and take another pill or have another test.. if he believes in this and it works, who cares. There is no allegation of PED's or anything else..

In the old days we would call this a "macrobiotic diet", then there was the free radical/antioxidant phase.. we are quick to call it quackery or something from the country of California, there are many examples of people who have been affected with medical and psychiatric ills who tried different regimens and were healed. Critical to this is the belief in the actual regimen, if you believe in the diet/regimen/method it works better...

Do not understand the rush to judgement on this issue, if it works for Brady and is legal, who cares?? Do we need a steady diet of controversy.. or are we just parroting the idiotic banter on talk radio???

This will morph into Brady is cheating ... it is only a matter of time.

back in topic. I don't see anything in what Tom is promoting to be that out there.

Eating right, proper sleep, Yoga/Mindfulness. The Benefits are really there to see, from a physical and mental health perspective. Agree with Daryl. The constant rush to sensationalise everything these days is tiring. I mean really.

Blood on his hands?

Brady's right on. We employ a massage therapist on our athletes and when he can't fix it we use an osteopathic doc rather than an allopathic one. Allopathic docs have their training funded by big pharma and are considered "right." They portray osteopathic medicine as quackery, while the blind masses spend big bucks on pills and surgeries that are far from necessary.

Cutting edge is nutrition, massage, sleep specialists, fascial release. Your fascia has a huge impact on pain, movement and athletic performance. Chronic pain can be treated by "quacks" like rolfing therapists much more effectively than any surgery or pill. That's why Brady kicks ass...he is open to alternative treatment methods rather than scoffing at them and following the same path as everyone else.

Tom makes s ton of sense. The world is now run by immoral corporations many of whom sell products that are harmful to people. Sugar sugar sugar. Alcohol. Splenda. Saturated fat. Calorie overload.

There no mysticism here. If you eat differently, exercise properly, stretch, practice mental exercises, you will outlast Peyton Manning.

I don't know what the allegations are against this Alex Guerrero, but afte DeflateGate, I am much more cynical about what gets published as fact and keep more of an open mind.

In any case, I have always wondered what Brady wanted to do after football. Maybe the cause of youth health will be part of it. If so, I applaud it.

Love hearing Brady speak out on this subject - sure, its going to scare a lot of people - they don't want to believe they are being held hostage by Pharmaceutical companies who 'only profit when you are sick'.

Its good common sense really - good diet - eat the right foods - treat your body well and it will return the favor - so many people have shelves full of pills of this, pills for that, pills for the side effects of pills A and B - really very uninstinctive and truly sad.

I fully expect a push back pretty soon from the likes of Coca Cola et al.

I don't know anything about Alex Guerrero, and don't really care right now.
Everything Brady says is true to me. It certainly isn't "out there" at all; what's "out there" is that so many people are still unaware of what are common practices for much of history and much of the human race.

What I find most interesting about what Brady says is his suggestion that the head trauma cause by football can be avoided through these practices and lifestyle. I find that hard to believe and a bit disturbing, which means it is what I should pay attention to because I probably have something to learn.

If you only knew what elite athletes do to gain an edge for their performance. Read up on Lebron, Kobe, and many many others. They have some really far out stuff that they do to keep their body right.

Brady hitting the "flax oil" isn't any different than Lebrons naps/Kobes polyphasic sleep or whatever their chefs are cooking up under their nutrionists advice, swiss knee treatments.... blah blah. Its taken on a life of its own simply because Brady is invested in it (personally and financially) and his teammates have consistently ribbed him for it. Nothing more or less.
