It's like having Darrelle Revis

Butler is good but he is not revis

I am curious to see how much better Butler can get. He lacks the pure talent of a Revis but he is no slouch in the talent factor overall. IMO he has played like a legit #1 CB

This will be the Achilles heel for a guy like Butler, he "gets" the game for the most part and he has a short-term memory that few CBs possess.

He's also tougher than most CB's I've seen, he loves to hit people, even running backs with 30lbs on him.

His pure athletic talent will be what keeps him from being as good as others, but his future is certainly bright, he's still incredibly young in the NFL and just gets better each practice, but he WILL have a ceiling below the best and he will get beat at times.

Last year was the perfect year to have a guy like Revis. The #1 WRs we went against included:

- Calvin Johnson
- AJ Green
- Demaryius Thomas
- Jordy Nelson
- Brandon Marshall/Alshon Jeffery
- Keenan Allen
- Mike Wallace
- Greg Jennings
- Reggie Wayne (Arrington covered Hilton)

If Butler had to face that list of WRs this year I think we would be singing a different tune. Revis pretty much shut all of them down except a couple plays he would like back against Jordy Nelson.

That said, Butler looks at least above average so far and I'm looking forward to his continued development!

Smith Sr. ate his lunch (playoffs).

Johnson – Revis covered Tate, Browner was on Johnson (who was injured) with safety help. Tate – 4 catches, 97 yards, longest 42 yards

Green – 5 catches, 81 yards, 1 touchdown, longest 35 yards
Thomas – 7 catches, 127 yards, longest 41 yards
Nelson – aside from the 45-yard touchdown catch he allowed to Nelson, Revis mainly covered Cobb – 7 catches, 85 yards
Jeffrey – 5 catches, 59 yards, 1 touchdown

The rest of the WRs you listed are far from elite, however I will note that Wallace actually performed well in both games against Revis.

Posters act like Revis shutdown every WR anymore than Butler has shut down his WRs this season.

If I had to place a bet I would say Butler at 25 years old is more athletically talented than a 30 year old Revis with major knee surgery a few years ago.

I know for a fact that Green didn't score his TD on Revis, so I'm just gonna assume the rest of those numbers are incorrect as well.

And in regards to that last sentence - it's because it's true. No WR had the success Antonio Brown had against Butler this year.

Right now yes he probably is. But I was speaking more to when he was in his prime.

Butler's in game athleticism is vastly different from his numerical athleticism traits (40, vertical, 3 cone, etc.). He's just one of those few players where combine stats doesn't always translate on the field.

He keeps up with 4.4 WRs, can jump a mile in the air, and has great change of direction speed.

I have no idea what happened at his pro day but IMO butler has the athleticism to be an elite CB. All he lacks is height but his jumping ability negates that.

Every stat listed was from the players game log, so you can assume whatever you want but they are accurate.

They are inaccurate in the context you are using them. You're inferring that all those stats were when those WRs were going up against Revis, and that's simply not the case.

I am ecstatic that Butler has turned into a number 1 option for us at corner. He's not Revis though and it's unfair to compare him to the best cb in the game. Butler has only started like 4 games and hopefully he keeps improving.

It would still be nice to add another corner. We will see what happens.

No I'm not I was responding to the poster who listed all of the WRs we went up against last year. The stats show that having Revis did not shut these players out, for the most part they still produced what they normally do in a game.

@Elijah @ender24601 normally I wouldn't ask, but I am just curious what about my saying where I got the stats and that the poster could assume whatever they want did you dislike? I'm a wee bit confused, I mean disliking a post is a chicken farmer move to begin with but baselessly disliking it is even worse...

I would like to add another outside corner that can play man coverage. I hope Bill feels the same way.

That last play in the ednzone, butler got faked out of his shoes

Yes Butler on a crappy receiver is similar to Revis, but ratchet up the difficulty level and there's a discernible difference. I love Butler but he's not Revis.

So now we have to compare the present of Butler against the past of Revis?

All I see is an excellent moneyball move thus far, going with a very good young corner that nobody else spotted rather than a formerly great corner, whom I thought we'd have to retain... unless we didn't.

It became obvious after we let him walk that the plan was for the front 7 to take pressure off the secondary. I think that was a sound strategy, with 1/4 of the season to go by.

Re-sign Tarrell Brown, draft an outside press CB (I like Eric Murray of Minnesota) and then see who of rookie, Darryl Roberts or Tarrell Brown wins the camp battle.
You might consider extending Ryan, who was our starting corner opposite Butler.
