I hope this is just typical media alarmism:

Giants tight end Daniel Fells’s MRSA infection is so serious that he could have to have his foot amputated.

Fells had his fifth surgery last week, but that still hasn’t been enough to clear the infection. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Fells was placed in intensive care and will need more surgeries, and doctors are fighting to save his foot.

I feel horrible for him if this is the case.

About two years ago my wife contracted MRSA from a local gym. It was detected early and with a course of treatment consisting of antibiotics it was treated. She didn't need them IV'd and surgery was not necessary.

With that said we needed to clean and disinfect EVERYTHING (clothes, cars, chairs, etc). We have children so that added to the tension of making sure it was completely eradicated from the house.

MRSA is no joke. I hope Fells comes out of this ok and can play football again soon.

Jesus. Awful. Best thoughts to Fells..

My son contracted it in his leg while in Afghanistan. Took 2 weeks of IV and intensive treatment at the FAST to get it cleared up. MRSA is no joke.

I worked in a hospital in which one or was diagnosed with MRSA. The fear on everyone's faces was noticeable. Robert Weathers is entirely correct. You have to disinfect everything. It's extremely serious!

Just had a family member deal with MRSA, if he would have waited another day before going to the hospital the doctor said there was a good chance he would have died because it had gotten spetic.

Thoughts and Prayers to Daniel Fells.. Already had 5 surgeries and more to come..

Wishing the best to Daniel Fells, hoping he is getting the very best care.

Oh that's awful. Thoughts and prayers go out to him. Those infections can be devastating.

Over time some of these infections get stronger, and resist traditional courses of antibiotics.. hope this works out for him. For the grace of god go I.....

Another reason to avoid hospitals. Many of us have had cortisone shots or spinal injections and you read these kind of stories and you realize how random life is.
"You never know when the fickle finger of fate will flick out at you"

As I recall, when Fells was with the Pats he missed time due to a shin injury. Sounds like something that may have ultimately led to this.

Wow! That sucks. I hope this is wrong and he recovers.

I hope they can get the infection under control and that Daniel recovers quickly. Very scary.

Good thoughts and fervent prayers for DF.

This is awful. Daniel, you are in all our thoughts.

Some good news.. They were supposedly able to get his fever broken Sunday night with new meds.. Not out of the woods yet.. but hopefully moving in the right direction

I just heard Daniel Fells had part of his foot amputated. Let us hope that that is the worst of it.
