I haven't watched a Cowboys game with Weedon starting, but I remember when he was in Cleveland he absolutely sucked going thru his progressions. He'd stare down one receiver, and if he wasn't open, he'd either run for it or get sacked.

I wish you guys were healthy coming into this game. It would have been a marquee game.

He has definitely gotten better in that aspect, but he still will do it at times. It seems as if he does it between Terrence Williams and Cole Beasley the most. I don't know why, perhaps he is the most comfortable with them and is looking for them as his first options.

Sean Lee practiced today. That strongly implies he will play Sunday.

He did. Sean Lee will likely play on Sunday.

For a bit of game-planning talk, Gangsta Garrett had this to say about covering Gronk -

Jason Garrett took some pressure off Byron Jones on Wednesday when the Dallas Cowboys head coach said covering New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski won’t rest solely on the rookie defensive back’s shoulders.

That’s good news for the 6-foot-1, 198-pound UConn product, who has impressed through four games but seems unmatched to shadow 6-foot-6, 265-pound Gronkowski.

“It is our challenge,” Garrett said. “(Rob) Gronkowski is a really good football player, and we would never just put one guy on him. We have to try and slow their offense down a lot of different ways. He is a big part of their offense.

I'm very interested to see how this will go. Sean Lee playing is huge in this aspect.

Randy Gregory will not play Sunday.

Weeden improved, he has a strong arm and a good spin in his passes. But he definitely doesn't have intangibles or great skills in reading defenses etc.. He can work though, as a backup.

I watched the games against Atlanta and Saints and I think he did ok and could do it better if Garrett were not so dumb and coward. The impression I got is that Weeden could do a lot more, even throwing a pick or 2, that Saints defense is hot garbage, if they roll the dice against the Saints they win that game, it was looking like a car driving with the handbrake pulled. It looks like Garrett pumps the break on Weeden.

The problem is if you put two guys on Gronk, that means Edelman, or Amendola, or our new budding star Dion Lewis will be uncovered, or only single covered, which, if you've watched Edelman, you'll see that means, uncovered. Can't wait for the game. I am thinking the Pats are going to shift their defense, and their secondary in particular, to cover the side of the field that Weeden likes to throw to, and to cover Jason Whitten to make sure he doesn't come up with his usual 3rd down clutch receptions.

With all due respect if you did ok vs a hot garbage deffense like NO that saved the game a few times, Weeden has not improved, because you lost. Hes an ok 2nd, but no threat to NE defense. And how a Hurt Brees can cream your defense easy in 1:51 sec with no time outs, you dont have much of chance vs a healthy TB. But good luck

Losing is a team effort.

Did you guys lose a good corner to injury in preseason or something? With Lee back I'd assume hell be shadowing gronk a bit, but what about the secondary? You guys run man or zone more prominently?
Can Jones line up with a guy like Edelman or Amendola? Chandler?

Even if you take gronk out of the mix do you have the ability to match up outside? How about Dion Lewis out of the backfield (Woodhead 2.0, probably more skilled through a 3 week window)? Chandler? I just don't think you guys will be able to keep up.

That said, I was disappointed to see all the injuries thrown your way, I really thought this had the makings of a great early measuring stick game. Hopefully everyone heals quickly and you guys have a shot at making noise in the playoffs.

We lost our best CB Orlando Scandrick in TC to an ACL. He is a pro bowl calibre slot CB and it sucks to have him out. Fortunately, Morris Claiborne has surprised everyone and he is playing like a freaking man. Claiborne has been really, really good this year. He has shut down OBJ, Nelson Agholor, and Brandin Cooks, and was good 1v1 on Julio Jones when they were matched up.

I am not concerned with Gronk in this game. That sounds weird, but what I mean is I know Gronk is going to do what he does and I am not going to bother worrying about that, because there is little teams can do to stop him. We will try our best to stop him and will win some/lose some. He's like JJ Watt - he will be a factor no matter what you do to stop him. The team cannot focus too much on him.

I am more concerned about Lewis out of the backfield and Amendola/Edelmen. Those are the positions/kinds of players our defense has trouble with. With Hardy/Lee/McClain back, I am not worried about the run defense, but I am worried about little quick slants/screens/outs.

I'm going to try to do my best on this comparison, though I'm not an expert with the Patriots depth chart. With the injuries we've sustained, this is like us, at full health, playing you guys without

Brady
Gronk
Malcolm Butler
Aaron Dobson
Dion Lewis
Kewshan Martin
Chandler Jones
Jabaal Sheared

Yeah. Matching up your depth chart with ours and what positions we've lost, that's what it would be like. Yeah. Ouch. And Garrett didn't take over the draft until 2013, so we are not nearly as deep as you.

Fortunately we play in a suck division. But of course everyone is picking on the Giants, Eli is getting dumped on and Coughlin is on the hot seat, so they'll probably go 6-10 and win the Super Bowl.

Byron Jones is certainly athletic enough, but leaving a rookie DB on Gronk is not a great idea.

How has Byron Jones been playing for you? There weren't many pre-draft that liked him more than me so I'd love to know how he's worked out for you. I believe he's switched to a strong safety role. Is that right?

Eh, check out the secondary we WON SB #39 with.

Or the WR groups Brady has worked with over the years. Particularly the WR set he took within 40 seconds of the SB in 2006.

And, btw, currently 3 rookies and two UDFAs on the OL this year.

The games never stop and injuries happen.

Of course I'm no Cowboys fan, but what I've read, mostly even from this thread, is that he's a hybrid corner/safety and that quote in the OP says he's been playing well. Was by far my #1 binky but he was everyone's so I'm not special in that regard.

It's funny how things change. During the off-season this game appeared to almost certainly be game 4 of the Framegate suspension and as such, quite a challenge for Jimmy G to drive the offense well enough to keep up with Romo and Dez. Most of us had confidence we could get it done, but I'm sure most of us are glad we're starting TB12. I'm sorry that Romo and Dez are injured, but wouldn't be that sorry if Jerrah choked on his tongue just for a little while until a huge lineman gave him the Heimlich maneuver, maybe he'd be better for the experience... Just sayin'....

I used the Heimlich and CPR combined 4 times in my life (3 CPR). My completion % against the Heimlich was 100% but against CPR it was only 67%.

I love it when owners and coaches start popping off about the Pats. It's one thing for a player to talk crap because he has to back it up on the field. Anyone else who mouths off deserves a slap.

Historically speaking, Romo has averaged a QB rating somewhere right around 96, (last time I checked) which is almost identical to Brady.

Is he "elite?" No. Not at all. Is he a top 10 NFL quarterback? Absolutely. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the postseason wins that often come from a more complete team, but talent-wise, I'd take him over someone like Joe Flacco any day of the week.

Was the little lady reading over your shoulder when you posted that? ;)

I like Romo too, but I'm not sure that I'd take him every day of the week over Flacco. Jump Ball Joe has had some damn good playoff games without many stinkers.

He was my number one guy too. It's a shame the Cowboys switched him to safety because I'd love to have seen what he could do as an outside CB.
