Ex-Pats: BoB, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallet & the Houston Texans' ongoing QB situation

My impression is mallet has more upside. He actually looked great early here, then stunk it up at times. Unless they don't like him, I would let him play and try to coach him up, so they can dump him if he doesn't grow up and perform.

I think hoyer is a great backup who will never be a top starter. Decent spot starter.

Bob's got to sack up and make a decision. If they're both going to suck, what's he got to lose? Remember Bledsoe saying he deserved a tryout against Brady and getting cold shouldered by BB? Nothing's fair, the coach made his decision and has to live with it. that's why BB is the best.

BoB needs to stay with Hoyer for the rest of the season....let chips fall where they may...then re-evaluate or get fired. Then after they can think about more Pats sloppy seconds Scott Secules or Tony Eason.

BOB couldn't have handled this worse. Going backwards and forwards between QBs from week to week is bad enough. But then pulling a guy for the rest of the game because he got knocked down and needed a few plays to recover?

Actually, compared with everything else on the Texans -- defense, absence of run game, O-line, bonehead penalties -- I didn't think that either quarterback looked that bad.

I'm sorry to say it but last night was a terrible advert for the BB coaching tree.

Man that last interception was atrocious. Hoyer can't handle pressure, you can't win games like that. I am really surprised that he switched the starting QB again. I don't see BOB being the coach after this year.

Yeah, it's a pretty sad tree… Sort of like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

I'm surprised, thought he would do well.

"For people to portray him as a bad person or teammate, they don't understand," Jim Mallett said. "If they were to meet our family, they'd know he was a good person. A compassionate kid. Competitor. Someone who wants to do what's right for the team."

"You don't know how bad it hurts the family. Ryan's grandmas . . . it affects them big time. They read it all. It hurts them. I've seen them in tears."

Did you see Mallet's eyes when Hoyer got nod to play? If looks can kill...........

I thought Mallet took him self out of the game?
It seemed like he was acting like my whiny 2 year old about 2 plays later when he wanted back in.
I could never really figure him out. I fell in love with his awesome throwing ability...but he just doesn't seem to have it between the ears.
I am still surprised he passed the patriots pre-draft screening and was deemed worthy of the high pick.
His apology didn't seem genuine when he overslept a practice in preseason (Hardknocks).

I can see BB signing Mallet again on the cheap after trading JimmyG.

If I'm paying someone an NFL football salary then I want them to be pissed off if they come out for a few plays and aren't let back in. Then I want them to not be a distraction.

Mallet did both. It's been a poorly-handled situation. The back and forth **** has to have been frustrating for both and to be discussing it publicly has only made it into a bigger story.

BOB's the idiot here, not two QBs who both want to play.

Edit: Eh, I didn't know Mallet left early. That's pretty bad, actually.

BREAKING: Mallett picked again to replace Hoyer. Decision made by coach's young daughter who likes his name.

BREAKING: Hoyer wins job back by throwing completion in practice.

BREAKING: Mallet/Hoyer decision to be made based on Siri's decision, horoscopes, game of Go Fish.

The irony here is that that kid Case Keenum is better than both.

Yup he did take himself out but he must have thought that he was going back in and it was his game to QB. It was obvious how figgidy he was pacing his sideline and his facial expressions were of frustration.

Hoyer mistook the defender for a trash can.

Well if this were Dean Smith coaching the good old Tar Heels, then a player is allowed to ask for a breather and not be held out the rest of the game for it. Football is different. When is the last time you EVER saw quarterback take himself out of the game??

Secondly and most importantly, Mallet is a bad NFL quarterback. If he cared about his team winning then he would realize the best thing for the Texans is for him carry a clipboard.

They should trade for Cassel, complete the trifecta.

I sometimes lay awake at night worrying about the post-TB12/BB era...about hard it will be to replace them when they retire.
So far, all the "proteges" for both of them kind of suck at playing and coaching football.

I've never seen this great upside people claim Mallett has. Garopollo looks a million times better.

In 2010 Cassel had success (10-5, pro bowl alternate) in K.C. when he was protected, and Weis schemed to his strengths. He took a beating in 2009, and Weis was able to get him past that, but the beating he took to start 2011 seems to have turned him into another David Carr with regards to focusing too much on the pass rush.
