Lots of Kickers Sucking

Interestingly enough, the league FG rate through the first 3 weeks (I haven't seen the stats for this week yet) is almost exactly the same as last year; both are 84–85%.

What's the rate of under 40 yard kicks? I bet it would be worse this season.

Only pats kickers can get it done; gost, av and gould. Also Cairo, guys going out there and mocks all these other kickers by getting 7 fgs

I wonder how people would respond if ghost missed a couple, half of the fans wanted to cut him after he missed the easy game winner a few years ago against arizona

Even before Vinatieri we had Matt Bahr, who was solid-to-good in his career.

I still remember the days of Teddy Garcia and Scott Sisson and Jason Staurovsky. We've been lucky for a while, and the last two were/are the best in the league.

They did. The most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. These are the same people who boo Vinatieri when he comes here - but Gostkowski misses one kick, and they're all "HE'S NO VINATIERI" - like Vinatieri never missed a kick.

I watched the JAX/IND game. JAX could have won the game 3 times with a kick!
Yep, and I don't even know his name, but damn him to hell forever for those misses, the gutless puke.

I see Kyle Brindza got canned by Tampa on Monday...he was having a nightmare!

Clearly we should have gone with Robbie gould

Missin Sisson.

Kickers in general are better now, but ours is the best. His combination of accuracy and length is unmatched and is why he leaves Vinatieri in the dust.

I've always been curious about the general ineptitude of NFL kickers.

Is it really that hard a skill to master that only a handful of the world population can do it?

Without any training and just screwing around with my buddies, I recall that I could consistently hit 35-40 yard FG's when I was in my prime. I guess I really blew a big opportunity to become a professional athlete. :(

Who was the guy who replaced Ghost the season he was hurt. That guy was good too. Where is he now? And these are the only guys? C'mon we've had youth soccer for decades. Wouldn't a middling MSL guy that spends a month training be competitive? And I assume the salary is higher and the potential fame is greater. Heck, go from back up mid fielder to toast of Pittsburgh.

Someone mentioned this, got me thinking...

Now that PSI of balls are tested, and I assume this applies to K balls as well, I wonder if kickers were previously pushing the upper limit on their game K-balls up as past 15, to around 16, 17 or higher if they could get away with it?

Fast forward to this year, if balls aren't coming off feet as fast, this will make longer kicks tougher to make EVEN if accuracy is the same due to weather wind and wind resistance having more of an effect on a slower moving ball and such. Also, if a softer ball makes it harder to kick accurately (i.e. more surface area in contact during kick compression causing less precision), then this inaccuracy could be even more pronounced.

Just a thought. Carry on.

Like Gostkowski said. It's a mental game.

BB ahead of it again. Lockin up Gost was a priority that Bill saw could be major this year in kicking game.

Since 2002, there have been 402 field goal attempts from exactly 38 yards, with 86.6% of them being kicked successfully. So theoretically the average team with the average kicker will gain an average of 0.866 points per attempt on these new extra point kicks.

Meanwhile, for all 2 point conversion attempts since 2002, there have been 728 league wide with 49.9% of them being converted successfully. Theoretically the average team with the average conversion offense vs an average conversion defense will gain an average of 0.998 points per attempt on 2 point conversions (49.9% x 2 points).
