Now we can solely focus next offseason on locking up Jamie and Hightower.

Plus Butler, and maybe Chandler Jones for good measure. They've got a lot of work to do this offseason if they want to prevent core defensive players from hitting the open market. Glad they're doing deals like this (and Solder) early so they can concentrate on that stuff later.

Chandlers last on the list to me IMO. He's a very good player, but I think the hope is that Flowers develops into being his replacement. At least let him play out his five years, though. Wouldn't trade him off early or anything.

Agreed. Jones is a good player, and losing him would hurt, but he's more replaceable than Hightower or Collins. Those guys are both physical freaks; you just don't see guys with their measurables coming out of college, and their mental game is on point considering that they're both signal-callers.

Assuming Lewis can avoid the injury bug, it is a heck of a deal for the Patriots. I was worried
about losing him to free agency. I hope they extend other players like Hicks and Martin if
they prove themselves. These are modest contracts compared to what Jones, Hightower and
Hicks will command.

SOP for the Pats. They reward solid performance and try to be fair.

The did a similar deal with Woody in 2010 after only a few games.

They use their leverage favorably. They know Lewis has an injury history and is willing to take a deal that is well below market (should he stay healthy through the end of this season.) They are good at offering guys what they need right now rather than waiting until they can't afford him. Usually it works, as it did with Welker, Edelman, and Gronkowski. Sometimes it backfires, as with Herndandez.

It seems they are not terribly concerned about the fumbles. That is a good sign from a FO that is right about this stuff as much as any team in the league.

Nice. And good for Dion.

Doing the happy dance! Doing the happy dance! :D:D:D

Called it. ;)

We will have to see how Hicks performs
