Andrews or Stork

Did you know that he's related to former coach, Dan Reeves? (Dan's brother-in-law was David's Grandfather.)

I did see that article, it definitely paints a picture of Andrews as a "football lifer"! Seems like a future coach type.

But...why did the author come up with that convoluted "his brother-in-law was David's grandfather" bit? In my world we just call that a "great uncle."

How was this guy undrafted?

According to scouting reports, his thin lower body was a concern. They thought he would get trucked by NT's at the pro-level.

That article also paints a picture of David Andrews that a lot of Pats fans might not be aware of. It starts with the early football card stuff and moves to Georgia, where Reeves would watch his games...noticed that he never missed a snap and saw that he he had real NFL potential. I also posted an article somewhere on this forum that goes back to David's high school years...how he began to learn to work with his hands correctly...reminded me of the Karate Kid movie (i.e. Wax on; Wax off.) This kid works.

Good points. This has me asking: What do you all think about players coming back after a period of time? And this is a complicated question, in my opinion. Some athletes respond quickly to the recovery process; others do not. There's the body, history, age, etc...

Stork is young, but he's been hit with a lot (of similar) injuries already. It's concerning, even when he comes back. How long can/will he stay on the field?

What might the Pats play have been like, if David Andrews was not filling that role? And I'll remind of a quote from former coach Dan Reeves about the position of Center; being almost important as QB:
“[Centers are] like the quarterback for the five offensive linemen,’’ said Reeves. “They make all the calls. He and the quarterback have to be on the same page. I know they do a lot of communication at the line of scrimmage in New England.’’ (FYI: this was taken from the same article I posted in this thread; few posts up.)

Fair questions to ponder, particularly with someone who has already developed a concussion history.

I think the plan was for Andrews to stay no matter what, although I personally did not have him pegged for a spot on the 53 like a small handful did. I thought he was a prime BB practice squader.

I'm guessing that Andrews, Kline, Stork, Mason, and Jackson will be our 5 IOL moving forward next year, which will likely make a guy like Ryan Wendell expendable.

I'm not sure if you've seen me mention it before, but I read that Bill Belichick actually called him 2x during the last day of the draft to gauge his interest, while sharing the coach's desire to see him come here.

I believe they threw out a 35,000 signing bonus fairly quickly in the process to lock him up, and that led to the 3 year deal.

Agreed.

Andrews needed to do well in camp and in preseason games and he did. That and injuries to Stork and Wendy made the decision easier.

Wow! BB is the Calapari of the NFL :p

Well, we're going to look at the film. A lot of the guys are doing great work out there. We need to keep making plays and minimizing negative football plays. But we'll review the film and see where we can improve. We're going to make the best decision we can for this team and play the people that give us the best opportunity to win.

And so ends my bb impersonation.

But in all honestly I think we play Stork for the simple fact that he is best at the job. We won't try a PS stunt with Andrews though, that's crazy.

They might have offered him some guaranteed salary, but @Miguel has his SB at just $15K.

Not sure, but here is the link to the tweet stating that they offered him 35k.

David Andrews may have said $35,000 guaranteed meaning $15,000 signing bonus and a $20,000 salary. A source verified the $15,000 signing bonus amount.

So now it's official Miguel has a direct line with BB.

So now you have reliable sauces? ;)

Thanks for the explanation/clarification, buddy.
