Tom Brady's bargain basement salary

I'm surprised as a serious face of the NFLPA that Brady isn't pressured into asking and demanding for top dollar.

Really no reason for them to. Did you see what the Dolphins gave Tannenhill? Or what the Chiefs gave Alex Smith?

Net worth of Tom Brady's endorsement deals: ?$20M? Each year
Net worth of Tannehills endorsements: $20 and a free cup of coffee each week

No wonder Tannehill can't pay the PS guys.

Tom Brady's deal is the single greatest bang for buck contract IMO in NFL history. Its almost criminal how he is getting paid compared to his peers. Its how the pats can afford a gronk, mccourty, two pro bowl caliber tackles etc. The depth on this team is unreal and as good as belicheck has been in trades and the draft a large factor in that success has to be Brady's very reasonable contract. I would approach him on a 2 year extension for 30 mil 20 of it guaranteed just due to it looking like he is not slowing down a hair.

The coffee ain't free.

People talk about Brady's contract a lot but the Patriots have a lot of really good ones. Gronk/Edelman are both underpaid tbh.

Gronk to me should be a 12-13M a year player but is is well below that. Edelman is playing like a 6-7M a year WR but is well below that.

Wendell is also underpaid for what he provides IMO. They have a lot of very good offensive contracts.

In contrast I also think they have some meh to bad contracts.

And the 3-year Andrews contract starts out at $435,000 (2015)..works to $615,000 (2017).

Methinks Tom will be tied to the Pats org for a long time, after he retires. There are lots of ways to reward a guy who helped make you America's team. Nutshell: RK's investment in the NE Patriots skyrocketed because of Tom Brady. (They all know it.) If Brady stays involved in operations, it's a boon to them all, as well.

I'd love his next deal to be vet min. That'd really piss off the haters.

Look for the league to create some rule that prevents Brady from taking a discount. Seriously, you heard it here first.

I wouldn't be surprised by a league rule.

What should the league think if Brady and Gronk both decided to play for vet minimum? Of course, that's OK. We're patriots fans. So, how should we react if Rodgers, Matthews and a couple of other packers decide to play for vet minimums in 2016 to help their team be able to add talent?

Brady's 2015 compensation of $8 million is roughly....half that of Jay Cutler

Just think about that for a second or two

Brady is motivated by glory not greed.

Some guys appear to understand being paid well and on a team with the ability to compete for a championship (hell, the Pats's haven't had a losing season since 2000) every years beats being paid top-of-the-market wages and playing on a dysfunctional team with little or no chance to compete. Everyone loves and winner and with that, commercial appeal arises. The thing is, it's not like the Pats don't pay their guys. They most certainly do.

It's an amazing culture that Belichick has built.

I honestly believe the only reason Brady didn't do that this time around was because it would make him easier to be cut. The entirely guaranteed structure of the contract makes it painful to get rid of him. On a minimum deal, once he's past his prime, they could just cut him effortlessly and hand the keys to Jimmy.

So unless there's a way to get a clause in the contract guaranteeing he remains the starter (can't), he'll have to use what leverage he has to continue to play here, which right now is that guaranteed contract.

It is easy to be motivated by glory rather than greed when your family has enough money to set your grandchildren up for life.

BTW, IMHO, the only other player who gave the patriots a significant discount was Bruschi.

Didn't Troy Brown turn down a lot more money from The Saints to stay with The Patriots?

I seem to remember him saying that he was thinking of signing with New Orleans until his son told him "But Dad, New England is home"

Perhaps, New Orleans did offer him a bit more after Troy was cut after playing 12 seasons for the patriots. [Just BTW, Brown was cut to avoid paying him his signing bonus. Strategies really haven't changed all that much].

That isn't really the same kind of discount that Brady and Bruschi gave. They were signing for the patriots for less money than they could have gotten. Brown did consider other teams, as happens almost always when the patriots cut a player. The patriots rarely pay the highest market price. As I said, that is not really the kind of deep discount we are discussing.

Thanks for the info. I didn't remember what the details were with Brown and the Patriots, only that the Saints offered him more money.

Let's see, I think I remember a guy who fit the following profile:
  • Lightly regarded quarterback, very late draft choice.
  • Eventually became star, starting quarterback, played in its championship game five times, and set many of the league's career passing records.
  • After retiring from football, served in Congress for 18 years.
  • Strong Presidential Candidate, later put Presidential Ticket as Vice President.
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Kemp

.....The only difference is that Brady is much more revered and popular in New England than Jack Kemp ever was in NY.

.....Brady will win his presidential nomination/election. He is all about winning. :)
