MNF: Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks - preview and prediction

What is not in dispute by anyone applying reason and fact:
-Seattle player intentionally batted the ball out of the endzone
-It is illegal to do so
-Whether the ball may have been headed out of bounds is all but immaterial
-There is no certainty of the ball was going out of bounds (it's not a round ball it is an oblong) and no certainty the ball would not have been recovered back by Detroit
-It isn't the referee's responsibility to decide if an infraction like this may change the game too much so not to call it.
-Whether the rule is not a good one, which it may not be, is immaterial
-Refs deciding what is too game changing for a blatant/obvious penalty to not be called is a logic that also applies to what non call is best for the league overall. (gee how can that be bad thing)

Not a fan of Seattle but Detroit is one of those teams I just really dislike. Except in rare playoff repercussion situational instances, I cannot find myself rooting for Detroit ever. But right is right, there is no discussion, they got shafted. They unequivocally deserved the ball at the 1 with a fresh set of downs. That is clearly the rule and the rule was clearly and blatantly broken. If it had been the Patriots pushing the ball out of the endzone I might now despise the rule, rue that it was called etc etc, but at the end of the day the call on the Patriots would be the right one and unambiguously so, period. (and if the opposing team had done it to the Patriots and it was not called. we would be screaming bloody murder).

BRING BACK THE REPLACEMENT REFS!

"SEATTLE PENALTY FOR INTENTIONAL BATTING OF THE BALL. TOUCHDOWN SEATTLE!"

Negative. Avi is Steven Bauer. The guy in my sig is Jean Claude Van Damme from the 2nd best fight movie ever, Kickboxer....obviously the 1st is Bloodsport.

Oh, thank God you exterminated that Damned Thing.

That is a wonderfully hideous Gif. :D

You never explained why you thought it was offensive amidst all that drama.

After the catch that brought them into the red zone, I turned to my wife and said, "I don't know how, but somehow Detroit is going to come away from this without any points." Such a breathtakingly, yet predictably stupid team.

Hope people aren't blind to this. If this game was Lions vs Bears somehow, someway the penalty ends up getting called. But the fact that it would have probably put the Seahawks at 1-3 is why the referees acted deaf, blind and mute.

Just look at that one angle of the relay, the back judge has the best view in the stadium of it and he claims he thought it was inadvertent.

Inadvertent would have been if Wright made an attempt to recover the ball and it bounced off his hands.

I watched that replay. You could see Wright bat the ball forward and the ref had a perfect view of the play. How could he possibly think it was inadvertent? I doubt Seattle players even know the meaning of that word.

All turnovers are automatically reviewed.

Make no mistake they could have got this right but the nfl* will hide under the rule that it is a penalty that falls under "can't be called on review" and they'll put it solely on the ref that missed it.

But because it wasn't the Patriots that benefited the rule will stay the way it is.

I think it is just as likely that the official was not aware of the rule. He looks better arguing inadvertence than admitting he didnt know the rule.

Where is Goodell? So much for the integrity of the NFL!

Credit to Kam for breaking that ball out. The guy has 10/10 big playmaking ability.

People would freak out if the Patriots got a call like that. It'd be tuck rule #2 for a week or two.

So now the NFL is admitting they blew it and potentially cost the Lions a win. That also means that the Hawks were potentially gifted one. I am sure that will have no impact on playoff seeding.

The most important thing is to protect the integrity of the game. o_O

Glad I ddin't watch that would be a couple hours of my life I would love to have back.:rolleyes:

Typical Lions snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Ya but I hope people don't think that's some kind of solid from the nfl*. They had no choice but to come out and say it was a blown call because it was such a clear thing. But they're doing so under the guise that the ref blew it and that the penalty can't be enforced because it's not reviewable.

I think the best way to protect the integrity of the game is to have part-time officiating personnel so that you can pay the commissioner $44 million.

I always figured people that blatantly lie must be stupid. They lie actually believing people will believe them.

It's got to be a projection thing. I'm stupid enough to believe this, so everyone else must be also. It's odd, I couldn't say the stuff the NFL says with a straight face, but they not only do it, but are proud of how clever they are.

He obviously hit it out intentionally.

Speaking of, where is the $44M man this morning? That was a pretty big and egregious blown call. You'd think that he would have said something by now.
