Not only was Spiller in tune with the game plan, he was aware that Brees had thrown his 399th career scoring pass earlier in the game. So moments after scoring, Spiller found Brees and gave him the ball with which the star QB had thrown his 400th TD."I ran up to him and said 'This is your ball, brother. You deserve it,'" Spiller said. "He's probably the best teammate that I have ever played with just from his work ethic, preparation, the way that he believes in his guys, as well as the way he goes out and competes.

Difference is Patriots didn't really care about it. Saints seem to be much more concerned about records.

Did anyone catch that during the Pats-Jaguars game, one of the CBS broadcasters said, to paraphrase: "Here in New England, when Brady reaches that milestone, they aren't going to stop the game and have a ceremony. That's not how they do things here, unlike a certain city." Then I think someone gave him an evil eye, and he tried to backtrack a little "There definitely some other cities that do it that way."

Pretty clear he was ridiculing Denver/Manning for their foolish in-game ceremonies.

Actually, Spiller's approach was best. Amendola would surely have done the same thing if he'd remembered it was a milestone ball. Instead, stadium minions remembered that it was a milestone ball, and all was good.

But yeah -- the Manning thing was pretty embarrassing.

I thought the: "There definitely are some other cities that do it that way."
came from the other commentator. (Kevin Harlan or Rich Gannon not sure which of the two said what)

It was a polite way to shut it down before he started naming names, but regardless there wasn't anyone who didn't know who he was talking about. So it didn't really matter if he said pay-me out loud or not.

I'm pretty sure Brady and his teammates cared. They just didn't show it outwardly. Remember, this is a man (Brady) with a huge chip that still remains on his shoulder over where he was drafted.

I wonder if they will stop the game when Manning passes Fouts Int milestone, he might catch marinos but will not catch brett farves record, that i think is etched in stone

Amendola probably forgot because the coaches and players don't talk about it all the time. NO probably brings it up every 12 seconds. What else are they gonna do? It's not like they're worried about playoffs.

It all worked out better than Spiller's approach because the lucky guy got to meet Tom Brady afterwards.

I can imagine Manning in the huddle, hey #87, this is going to you, and i want it back, to add to my collection

I'm sure BB and the Pats were aware.

BB had Flutie kick a drop kick because he knew the significance of doing so, you think he was unaware of Brady's 400th TD pass?

BB is a historian of the game.

DA knew. He just had a brain fart. Honest mistake.

Happened in NO first, actually, they delayed the extra point attempt after Brees broke Marino's yardage record for a good minute + while celebrating, Brees was walking all over the field waving the ball around, I could be mistaken, but I do believe I remember seeing confetti fall, too.

Agree'd, they all hear TV and radio nonsense, tons read twitter and facebook, it's been all over everything, to think they don't know is just foolish just because they don't outwardly celebrate anything other than victories.

Everyone knew that Tb was at TD pass #399, hell, it was probably being announced over the loud speakers and blown up on the in-stadium super TV's all game til he hit it.

I'm sure the team was aware that Brady's 400th was incoming. Amendola just forgot in the moment, which I'm fine with because he had more important stuff to worry about. I don't think there's anything wrong with Spiller not forgetting, though. As milestones go, it's a big deal. It's not like the Saints orchestrated some hokey, scripted, idiotic Manning-esque celebration.

I can only imagine the celebration when Manning throws his 300th TD pass from within the five, it will be epic. Projections have it around Thanksgiving.

What broadcaster said that? I was watching it at a bar and wasn't able to hear it.

brady told the team

"Hey guys, if you catch #400 give it to someone in the stands, the Pats HOF will want the ball, and what better way to help out the people who cheer for us then to give one a ball they can turn into a meet and greet"

It would have been better if Amendola extended it out for Brady to come get and then chucked it into the stand just as he reached for it. Too late.......
