Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin fired after loss to Jets

Suh's cap numbers:

2015: 6.1 M
2016: 28.6 M (would lose 53 M in dead money and lose 25 M against cap if cut)
2017: 15.1 M (would lose 25 M in dead money and lose 10 M against cap if cut)
2018: 22.1 M (would lose 10 M in dead money and save 12 M on cap if cut)
2019: 24.1 M (would lose 5 M in dead money and save 19 M on cap if cut)
2020: 18.4 M (would not lose any dead money and would save all 18.4 M if cut)

So in other words, they are 100% stuck with him in 2016, very likely stuck with him in 2017, and it would be tough to walk away from the contract in 2018 but could be necessary.) Based on the contract structure, this looks like in reality a four-year deal with an out after three years if they decide his value is worth less than 12 M for that year.

The best part is, of course, that Suh is only counting 6.1 against the cap for this year. The giant black hole that is his contract will not even start destroying the team until next year. The fun hasn't even started yet.

Don't forget that Suh's 2016 and 2017 numbers are guaranteed! This contract will be the albatross around Miami's neck for years to come, even IF he was playing well. Now that he is sucking, it is a giant black hole that will, eventually, suck the entire franchise down with it.

McDaniels is being discussed as a Dolphins or Colts coach don't let that happen I can't see Josh doing that but you never know.

Well so Tannehill is bullying the practice squad players?

Better call Ted.

As nice as he seems to be, there is something just seriously wrong with him. One son is dead, the other is a trainwreck.

People love to heap hate on Incognito for what he did in Miami without understanding that that was the culture in the locker room, and furthermore a culture that Philbin never bothered to correct or rein in. Philbin strikes me as being someone either very incompetent or completely out of touch with certain things in life.

FYI, Incognito, ever since he has been in Buffalo, we've heard hardly a peep out of him. He has been nothing short of outstanding at LG and hasn't committed a penalty.

Except for a chop block in the 4th quarter yesterday that wiped out a TD pass.

Amazing. If those reports are true, Tannehill should have been benched for leadership failure.

Philbin told the practice squad players to take it easy on Tannehill to not affect the young quarterback’s confidence.

However, that didn’t prove to be an effective strategy.

Gee, you don't ****ing say. If you have to instruct your practice squad players to stop picking your QB because it hurts his feelings, then your QB sucks AND he's mentally weak. ...not the best combo.

Please football gods....let there be a fire sale..... let there be a FIRE SALE..... LET THERE BE A FIRE SALE!!!!! :D:D:D:D

You're expecting Mike Tannenbaum to sell to the Patriots?

Maybe he is the next to be fired and his history with Bill will allow Bill to pick his pockets as he's given a errand boy Job on our team in the future.
Someone has to get the Coffees.

Wasn't it Harvard? They just lost half their endowment.

????

I think you left out the word "managers".

Their endowment grew last fiscal year (but not as much as other).

10 million a year complete control and being the boss can sway many a men.
Let's hope Josh is holding on to the heir to the throne.

I almost hope these are these same kind of "anonymous sources" that fed those negative BS about the Patriots to the media, because that's extremely embarrassing for the QB and ex-coaches, if true. How would telling the PS players to take it easy on your starting QB help him? He's going to face guys much better that PS level during games.

It's almost like the scene in Rudy where the highly touted, but disappointing recruit yells at Rudy for going too hard at practice, except, in the Dolphins version, the coach agrees and tells Rudy to chill out.

After his experience in Denver I am sure McD will think beyond money and control whenever his next opportunity comes. The Dolphins are in an aweful situation with a maxed out cap, a QB that is neither a bust nor a franchise QB and holes everywhere. Not sure who voluntarily steps into that **** hole.

Suh is overrated and will eat their cap for the next few years. It was stupid. JJ Watt may be the best DT of the last ten years and even he can't impact Houston enough to stop them from being a mess. And Suh isn't near as good as Watt.

Plus Suh is a ****ing head case

Kraft should just offer McDaniels a bigger salary to stay. It doesn't count against the cap.

Keep that familiarity between QB and OC, especially now with Brady late in his career. They're on a roll together right now and it would be a shame to see that dismantled. I'm sure Josh will definitely get another chance at a HC job down the road.

What's sad about the Miami situation is that it's what's easily possible to happen in about 23-28 cities. The league is so QB-centric now that not having a top 5 (or so) QB, or at least a QB that absolutely goes off in the playoffs, is almost a guarantee that you're on the outside looking in. And, since teams don't want to risk becoming completely irrelevant, they'll overpay for the QBs who make them even remotely competitive.

I really felt the Dolphins were on the right path, building from the inside. But then offseason was an unmitigated disaster.

The Fins were getting kudos and offseason awards. WTF!?

Mike Tannenbaum has sabotaged this franchise and they'll suffer for another decade as a result, just like he destroyed the Jets. How is he still employed?

Philbin must be thinking "thank God I'm out of that situation".

The right words for McDaniels to say now is Hell No.

People were so enamored with the Suh signing this offseason to notice that they really gutted this team in the offseason and replaced some of their better talent with substandard replacements (replaced Charles Clay with Jordan Cameron, replaced Mike Wallace with Kenny Stills). Even on this board when I brought it up, there were people who attacked me because the party line was that the Dolphins were getting rid of underperformers. In reality, they were getting rid of salary to afford Suh and Tannehill.

Suh is more talented than Odrick but considering salary, ability to follow coaches instructions, taking stupid penalties, potential for suspension due to stupidity, etc. it looks like they would have been better off keeping Odrick. Nice pick up for the Jags though.

Philbin grew up in my town. I wonder if he'll be coming back home...

He seems like a decent enough guy. I can't imagine ever enduring the loss of a son. He has five other children, but that is a loss that I don't think anyone ever gets over.

He was good as the OC in Green Bay, so I expect him to catch on in a role like that somewhere. I have to imagine with the outright crapulent football we have been seeing the first four weeks that a few coordinators are going to be given their walking papers as well.
