Semi OT: Education of Steve Belichick

He'll be ready to be the head coach of the Pats in about 10-12 years. Brady's son will be about 20, 21 by then, about a year from graduating from Michigan and being drafted by... The New England Patriots. And a dynasty is (re) born!

What? it could happen!

Anyone else surprised to see so many quotes about an assistant coach? Especially from BB himself?

It's great to read articles like this, as surprising as they are to come across.

Great article!

And yeah, @Reckedtrek we're all thinking it...at least I was when reading that article.

I don't know man, seems like copying your coaches genes into another person is just another sign of pushing the rules. We need to let the competition committee know.

I wonder what his future is. Is Steve Belichick just a coaching assistant? What was Josh McDaniels at that age? What was Bill Belichick? He's not even a position coach yet, is he?

I was amused that the article contains no quotes from the subject himself. I guess the coaching assistants aren't allowed to speak to the media, even if you're the HC's son.

Is BB's other son Brian older or younger? Does he have a role with the team? I know his daughter coaches lacrosse. Coaching genes run strong in that family.

Signbabybrady has been on this plan for years!

The NFL* will come up with a new rule limiting the number of years a coach's direct descendants are allowed to coach for the same team as their parent did.

I don't envy a young man with such a name to live up to in such a high profile profession. If he has ambitions to coach, and obviously he does, I hope he's ready to live under his Father's shadow.

Belichick is the greatest head coach of all time and in that category the competition is probably steeper than it is in the category of quarterbacks.

I don't think any HC has innovated more regularly and routinely in the history of the game. Every season this guy is setting future NFL trends and wrinkles.

Also, he's got the GOAT quarterback to pull it off.

That's a tough presence to get out from under of.

Brian is the youngest, but he must be in college now. Amanda is 30! which kills me because I remember her running on to the field for SB36.

Education is incredibly important to BB -- consider, for example, the book whose title this article's title echoed, or the story behind its writing.

BB is hardly alone in that. Ken's recent rant reminded me of just how important their role as educator is to football coaches in general.

The really important question we ask should be asking, who is his Ernie Adams?

There have been a lot of father/son coaching combos. The first football families that come to my mind are:

  • Belichick
  • Ryan
  • Phillips
  • Shanahan
  • Schottenheimer
  • Scarnecchia (that one didn't turn out so well)
  • Kiffin

Don Shula's son had to go through a similar path after his playing days. So did the Ryan boys. Sounds like the kid has some coaching skills and assets beyond his father's last. I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave in a couple of years to work for another team and organization to further grow his skills and develop his own name, then come back after his dad is retired and work for Josh.

OT - since we're talking hypotheticals, the ultimate mindf*** would be for everybody on that future team to legally change his name to Bündchen ( yes. Brady and Belichick would make more sense, but I like being weird).
